Ausflugsziel Grosse Scheidegg | Grindelwald | Schweiz

About Grosse Scheidegg from Grindelwald :
This may be one of the most beautiful car-free rides in Europe. You will start in front of Eiger's legendary 'Nordwand' (Northwall), regarded as one of the most difficult climbing routes in Europe. From here you will move up through Grindelwald until you reach the car-free road. From here it is just you, the hairpins and the amazing views of the majestic Swiss mountains. To put it in former Swiss world champion Fabian Cancellara's words: ... sometimes you feel a bit like a mountaineer when you are on your bike, and you really feel that connection on the Grosse Scheidegg. Of course, it is also a beautiful place....

Adding music to the ride:
Most cyclists would agree that the ride to Col du Tourmalet is awesome. But when it comes to music opinions are very mixed. This is why we do not add music to our rides. We simply do not want to spoil your ride with music you do not like. But it is quite simple to add it yourself. Open an extra browser tab. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, YouTube, etc…) and pick the music you like and enjoy the ride...

Took cable-car from Grindelwald to First, the downhill to Grindelwald.
The trail not so challenging, a hardtail can completely conquere it.
Forgive me, I only used my cellphone this time, but I will use a GoPro next time, which is really necessay in this case.

Switzerland's Jungfrau - Lakes & Glaciers Walk - Grindelwald First to Grosse Scheidegg
Switzerland 's Lakes & Glaciers - Grindelwald First to Grosse Scheidegg. Switzerland’s Jungfrau Region (Berner Oberland) doesn’t disappoint. It’s WOW!!! Switzerland renders you speechless – we can’t when we said “Wow” so often!!
We defy you not to get frothy about the dreamy landscapes, geological wonders & superb Swiss engineering. Seilbahns (cable cars) deliver you upon high to walk or marvel.
The Jungfrau and Valais Regions are home to the tallest & most vast glacial region in Switzerland. I was wowed by the Aletsch Glacier and assumed that was that – the best-of-the-best, but no, the Jungfrau Region delivers equal awesomeness!!! Glaciers are retreating with global warming. Sadly some of the lower glaciers may disappear in the next 20 years. The flow-on affect to local climate is impacting now, so best get to the Jungfrau now.
We take the cable car from Grindelwald to First. Picture postcard chalets, with red geraniums flowerboxes, nestle into the verdant green slopes & clanging cowbells drift into the cable-car from far below.
Soon they're forgotten as the Swiss Alps & glaciers, take centre stage. Rick Steves reckons this is where Heidi lives. More like Bollywood! We shared the magnificently engineered First Cliff Walk with a wedding & hoards of tourists - they arrive early.
Next stop was magical Bachalpsee. The water mirrored the “Imperial Crown” – Finsteraarhorn (4,274m/14,022ft), Fiescherhorner (4,049M) & Schreckhorn (4,078m) . Bollywood's blockbuster DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) was filmed nearby – catnip for Indian tourists.
Japanese tourists are smitten with Switzerland – many marry here. Great taste!! Who wouldn’t want an infinity view of the Swiss Alps for their wedding photos?
From Bachalpsee we head via the Hiendertellti (mountain corridor behind Grindelwald’s mountains) to Wart.
Switzerland's a chocolate sampler box –the world's best scenery's assembled in one ‘box’. T
We pass Lake Hagelseewli, cold & eerie without the sun, up to the Witche’s Lake – Lake Haxeseewil. It’s all gleaming aquamarine loveliness - as stunning as Scotland’s Coire Mhic Fhearchair.
Onward to Wart through a mega scree slope, lunching at a plateau affording 360 degree views of the Alps, Schwarzhorn, Wildgarst & the Hiendertellti corridor.
We take the easier white-red-white track around Schwarzhorn's base. Schwarzhorn requires mountaineering skills & equipment.
Wart (between Schwarzhorn & Wildgarst) is our highest point at 2,704m / 8,871ft. From here it’s downhill, around the Blau Gletscherli (Blue Glacier) – reduced to a thin ice sheet.
From our own hanging valley we gaze into the glaciers surrounding the impressive Wetterhorn (3,692m).
The trail is quiet at the end of the season – it will close soon.
We must keep a steady pace to ensure we catch the last bus from Grosse Scheidegg back to Grindelwald. Making good time we have a DIY foot spa in the local stream. The sound of gushing water is eclipsed by a sonic boom!!! of a Swiss fighter jet. Boys with toys, lol!!! They take defence here very seriously (hiding fighter jets inside mountains).
On the bus we reflect on another stellar day out. Switzerland’s simply WOW & WOW.
