Christchurch St Asaph Street @ Night - Are Too Dangerous
Christchurch St Asaph Street @ Night - Are too dangerous
After traveling home one night I stopped by a couple of nightclubs in central Christchurch and saw what a death trap it is on St Asaph Street, Christchurch. You think that St Asaph Street is dangerous in the daytime, well check it out at night with cars, taxis, buses and lots of drunk people trying to use the road. It is a matter of time before someone is injured or even killed.

Tour a Thriving 23-Year-Old Permaculture Food Forest - An Invitation for Wildness
In the small town of Riverton at the bottom of New Zealand’s South Island is Robert and Robyn Guyton’s amazing 23-year-old food forest. The 2-acre property has been transformed from a neglected piece of land into a thriving ecosystem of native and exotic trees where birds and insects live in abundance. Robert and Robyn are a huge inspiration to us, not only for their beautiful approach to healing the land and saving heritage trees and seeds, but for the way they’ve impacted on their local community.
They’ve operated an environment centre in their town for over 20 years, where the community comes together to learn and discuss, buy produce and sit by the warm fire over a cuppa. We’ve even heard of folk who’ve up and moved to Riverton because they’re so inspired by the Guytons!

What is winter like in Auckland?
What is winter like in Auckland
The Auckland region enjoys a warm, coastal climate without any extremes of temperature. Summers in Auckland are generally warm with high humidity, while winters are mild and damp. Plenty of rain is experienced throughout the year, but mainly in winter (June, July, August)
This video answers the following questions about the winter in Auckland
What is the coldest month in Auckland?
What are winter temperatures in Auckland?
How cold does it get in Auckland?
Does it snow in Auckland?
What are winter events and activities in Auckland?

Auckland snowfall 'brief' - NIWA
By Tova O’Brien on 15 Aug 2011
The great debate in Auckland; was it snowing today, or wasn’t it?
Reports of snow came in from throughout the Auckland region including the CBD.
But with the combination of sleet, hail and rain that also fell in the city, there was a great deal of debate about what really qualifies as snow and if it did infact snow in Auckland.
According to NIWA, the short answer is yes; it did snow in Auckland. That makes today the first time it has snowed in Auckland since 1976. But NIWA says it was just a flurry – a brief snowfall that doesn’t settle on the ground. The last time snow actually settled or lay in Auckland was in the 1930s.
It is easy enough to confuse snow with sleet, which is a slushy combination of snow and rain.
To officially be snow, the flakes or ice crystals must be hexagonal in shape, with six branches. Otherwise, it’s just not snow.
The temperature in Auckland today dropped to 4DegC – the same as the inside of a fridge. But it felt even colder.
“The wind chill formula works out how much extra heat is being taken from your body and when it was four degrees it felt like it was something like -3,” says MetService weather ambassador Bob McDavitt.
Today marks the second coldest day in the year.

Full Film: Man Spends 30 Years Regenerating Farmland into Amazing Forest | Fools & Dreamers
The incredible story of how degraded gorse-infested farmland has been regenerated back into beautiful native forest.
Host a screening of the film:
While we've made this film free to watch on YouTube, if you're holding a public screening you'll need a license. We've made the fees very low to be accessible to all communities and we'll be splitting the income with Hinewai Reserve. Check out to learn more about the film and screening licenses. Thank you for your support!
Fools & Dreamers: Regenerating a Native Forest is a 30-minute documentary about Hinewai Nature Reserve, on New Zealand’s Banks Peninsula, and its kaitiaki/manager of 30 years, botanist Hugh Wilson. When, in 1987, Hugh let the local community know of his plans to allow the introduced ‘weed’ gorse to grow as a nurse canopy to regenerate farmland into native forest, people were not only skeptical but outright angry – the plan was the sort to be expected only of “fools and dreamers”.
Now considered a hero locally and across the country, Hugh oversees 1500 hectares resplendent in native forest, where birds and other wildlife are abundant and 47 known waterfalls are in permanent flow. He has proven without doubt that nature knows best – and that he is no fool.

RVing New Zealand | Mt. Cook to Queenstown
On our second day RVing through New Zealand we drove from Mt. Cook to Queenstown. Before leaving for Queenstown we drove to New Zealand's only glacial lake, Lake Tasman.
We didn't quite make it to Queenstown, but we stopped about 20 minutes outside of the city at a freedom campsite on Lake Hayes. The freedom camp ground on Lake Hayes was absolutely beautiful!

Wellington Airport breaks ground on new hotel
Construction on a new $36m hotel at Wellington Airport is now underway following a recent ground-breaking ceremony.
Hon. Chris Finlayson officially launched the construction of the four-star 134-bed hotel at the northern end of the airport which will be managed by Rydges and include a restaurant, bar and conference facilities.
The hotel, which is expected to welcome its first guests in late 2018, will be fully integrated with the Main Terminal Building, built above the International terminal and accessible directly from inside a newly redeveloped passenger lounge.
Steve Sanderson, Wellington Airport’s Chief Executive, said the hotel will be convenient for central New Zealanders and international visitors connecting overseas through Wellington.
“The hotel is part of the airport’s wider efforts to improve the experience of everyone who has to catch an early flight or arrive on a late one. Many travellers utilise these international flights and the Airport’s particular focus is on improving its role as the gateway for central New Zealand.
“Grabbing a room and getting a good night’s rest will be a smart option for those that need to travel a fair distance home. We expect the airport hotel to be hugely popular with business travellers, families and those travelling internationally.
TIA Chief Executive, Chris Roberts, says the new hotel will be a welcome addition to New Zealand’s accommodation offering.
“It’s great to see that investors have the confidence in the future of tourism in Wellington and New Zealand to embark on this project. It’s well recognised that there is a need for new hotels to meet the tourism growth forecasts for New Zealand. This promises to be a valuable addition to the range of commercial accommodation available in the Capital, and will contribute to the industry’s Tourism 2025 goal of growing value ahead of volume to reach total annual revenue of $41 billion by 2025.”
Peter Hill, Director of Development Hotels and Resorts of Event Entertainment and Hospitality, said: “packed with personality and with a focus on great design and quality food and beverage offerings, Rydges Wellington Airport will offer design-savvy travellers a fresh travel experience; one we believe will hold great appeal for all everyone coming through the airport and not just hotel guests.”
Wellington Airport’s international market has experienced exceptional growth in recent years welcoming new services from Singapore Airlines, Fiji Airways and Jetstar. International visitor spending in Wellington has reached $716m in the last year and international passenger numbers have more than doubled in the last 15 years to nearly 900,000. Total passenger numbers through Wellington Airport are close to hitting the 6 million mark.
“This is another example of the considerable investment we are making to transforming the
terminal and passenger experience. The majority of work on our domestic terminal extension has been completed and work is well underway on the multi-level transport hub.
“Although there will be some disruption as a result of the construction work, we believe the hotel and the transport hub will be welcome additions to the airport,” said Sanderson.
