Museum to open Huntsville's first outdoor ice rink
Huntsville, AL -- The Huntsville Museum of Art and PNC Bank are excited to present Huntsville's first outdoor ice skating rink. Museum officials, PNC representatives, and
Mayor Tommy Battle cut the ribbon to officially open the rink at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012.
Skating in the Park presented by PNC Bank will be open to the public through January 5, 2013.
At PNC Bank, we have a 160-year tradition of enriching the communities where we do business, and providing access to the arts through culturally engaging programs is simply vital, Jim Hansen, PNC Bank regional president for Northern Alabama, said.
The Huntsville Museum of Art has a wonderful reputation as a leader in arts and culture, and it is our pleasure to serve as their partner and neighbor in Skating in the Park.
Located directly behind the Huntsville Museum of Art in Big Spring International Park, the rink will be open to the public seven days a week. Light concessions and outdoor restroom facilities will be available on site.
Special skate events are also planned and will be announced.
Whether it's here in Huntsville or in any of PNC's markets across our footprint, the economic activity derived from the arts is crucial to the success of us all, Hansen added.
Dane Block, president of the Foundation Board of the Huntsville Museum of Art, added This will be a great event for the surrounding community as well as the Huntsville Museum of Art and couldn't have happened without the outstanding support of our sponsors, the Museum Board and staff, and the City of Huntsville.
The Foundation Board established the ice skating rink for this holiday season to help raise funds for the museum.
Scottsboro artist and Foundation Board member Nancy Bradford created the Skating in the Park goose art using watercolor as her medium.
We encourage everyone in the Tennessee Valley and beyond to bring their family and friends this holiday season and skate with us, Sarah Gessler, Museum Board President, said. After skating, visitors can warm up inside our galleries and get a rare glimpse of medieval English alabaster sculptures in Object of Devotion and exquisite sacred paintings in Divine Masterpieces.
Additional support was generously provided by Morgan Stanley, SEA Wire and Cable Inc., Lite 96.9, WAAY-TV, Channel 31, and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

Georgian Bay in Muskoka, Ontario
Georgian Bay is part of an area known as Muskoka, which includes a lot of Ontarios lake country. On the edge of the Canadian Shield, its a beautiful area for cruising and vacationing in general and hugely unique shorelines have been the inspiration for numerous Canadian artists, such as those in the Group of Seven. A water taxi takes you through the Georgian Bay Islands National Park, which consists of a scattering of about sixty islands spread between Twelve Mile Bay and Honey Harbor, a distance of about 30 miles.

Day at the museum - Tom Thompson
While on a vacation in the Bruce-Grey area just off of Georgian Bay, Ontario Canada, we stopped in to pay homage to my favorite Canadian Artist, Tom Thompson. There is a Tom Thompson Museum located in Owen Sound, Ontario Canada just five minutes south of where he grew up.
Today was the anniversary of his disappearance and so was designated as his date of death.
This is the beauty of writing your own life! You can visit anyone or go anywhere, whenever and with whom ever you like, the best part is you can do your business on the go if you like!
