Bedroom Farce by Alan Ayckbourn
Grove Park Theatre, Wrexham from 19-28 May 2016.
A Hugely Popular Comedy of Errors by Britain’s Master of Comedy
In this hugely popular farce by one of Britain’s most loved writers of comedy Trevor and Susannah, whose marriage is on the rocks, inflict their miseries on their nearest and dearest: three couples whose own relationships are tenuous at best. Taking place sequentially in the three beleaguered couples' bedrooms during one endless Saturday night of co-dependence and dysfunction, beds, tempers, and domestic order are ruffled, leading all the players to a hilariously touching epiphany.
Grove Park Theatre’s 90th Season of Comedy Greats wouldn’t be complete without one of the finest plays by Britain’s master of comedy, Alan Ayckbourn.

No Sex Please We're British
Opening Grove Park Theatre's 91st season, we present Anthony Marriott & Alistair Foot's hysterically funny classic British farce, No Sex Please We're British. Smash West End hit and was also made into a film starring the late Ronnie Corbett.
From 8-17 September, we will be showing this riotous comic farce is a classic of its genre.
Living in the flat above the bank, newly-weds Peter and Frances want nothing more than a quiet life together, but owing to an unfortunate mistake, they find themselves inundated with pornographic material from the Scandinavian Import Company.
The resulting chaos involves senior bank officials, Peter's glamorous snob of a mother and a prim, humourless bank cashier as the police net closes in and Peter’s ordered, happy life starts to come crashing down.
All of the elements of timeless farce are here, with mistaken identity, saucy humour and physical comedy making this a rip-roaring start to the new season.

Grove Park Theatre Pantomime Snow White 2009, Bench Scene
Another traditional routine, its origins lost in folklore. Our motley crew, lost in the Spooky Forest while searching for Snow White, decide to sit on a convenient bench (as one does) and sing a song to keep their spirits up. They are chased off one at a time by a ghost.
Cue for corny jokes and endless repetition, which the kids love. Enthusiastic audience participation is essential. Part of the appeal lies in the predictable ending and the chance to feel superior to those clueless heroes on stage. All the backstage crew join in with the actions. Panto is great fun to do, and harder than it looks to do well.
Jester Jo King's Harlequin-style costume is a tribute to the 18th Century Commedia Dell'Arte performers who coined the term pantomime (their first shows in Britain had no dialogue because the French actors knew little English) and evolved much of the knockabout comedy, still going strong.
Cast: Prince Zac - Kate Salmon; Nanny Nottalottalady - Rob Stevens; Jo King - Hannah Brockley; Jay - Margaret Farrell; Kay - Andy Heath; Ghost - Ali McBain.
Musical Director - Deryl Lewis.
Set designed by Keith Evans, painted by Keith and Sam La Roche; entrance arches by Dave Roberts.

The Accrington Pals
Grove Park Theatre are performing The Accrington Pals between 16th and 25th October 2014. Peter Whelan's evocative and moving play about extraordinary people in extraordinary times.
Grove Park Theatre Oh What a Lovely War: Drill Sergeant sketch.
Sgt Maj Huw Sayer gets the squad fell in and tries to teach them the rudiments of bayonet drill, with mixed results! His dialogue, some of it gibberish, is improvised, and a little different every show. The parasol breaking was a genuine accident (cue ad-lib), while the smoke machine performed more enthusiastically than expected...
Rookies are: Tim Rogers, Stuart Guy, Paul Davies, Alison Cass and Jordan Tinniswood.
The iconic costumes derive from Pierrot (Pete), a naïvely optimistic, hopelessly romantic character created in Paris by the comic playwright Molière in the 17th century and enthusiastically adopted as a clown into the Commèdia dell'Arte, which in the early 1700s formed the basis of the first British pantomimes. Pierrot shows were a popular form of seaside vaudeville of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, at their height in the Edwardian and inter-war eras. Author Joan Littlewood saw such a show as the perfect ironic vehicle for a scathing satire on the attitudes which led to and sustained the madness that was the First World War - and it's still relevant today!

Grove Park Theatre pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Bad rehearsal.
In her mirror room, wicked Queen Jordan (Clare Roberts) leads her evil underlings in a dance routine. For the show, the chorus wore triffid-like costumes in black with green sequins. The effect was quite surreal, with lighting that threw dramatic shadows on the back wall.
Choreography by Leah Tyson.
This show sold out almost entirely before the first performance, so to avoid disappointment, book now for next December's Cinderella. Box office groveparktheatre.co.uk

Whose wives are they anyway
by Michael Parker
“A veritable laugh riot” - The Boca Raton News
The Ashley Maureen Cosmetics Company has been sold and two of its vice presidents, David McGrachen and John Baker, have planned a weekend off before the new C.E.O. arrives on Monday. With their wives safely off on a shopping spree in New York City, they check into The Oakfield Golf and Country Club intending to golf their brains out. They unexpectedly encounter their new boss, Ms. Hutchison, and she insists on meeting the wives, commenting blithely no one who went golfing for a weekend without his wife would ever work for me.
Consequently, they have to produce wives. John somehow manages to persuade the sexy hotel receptionist to play the role of his wife, which leaves John as the only person left to pretend to be David’s wife! In true farce style, everything starts to go wrong as John moves in and out of bedrooms, changing clothes and sexes at a frantic pace. As alcohol is added into the mix, the phone system dies and things take a turn for the worse when the real wives turn up!
True slapstick fun from English actor-writer Michael Parker, who moved to the United States and noted that many of the traditional British farces didn’t quite translate properly across the Atlantic. He decided to write a ‘proper’ modern British farce that would have the verbal, visual and “naughty but nice” humour to appeal to the masses.
