Kavala is in Macedonia and is built into the foothills of Mount Symvolo, 160 km from Thessaloniki. One of the most beautiful and picturesque cities in Greece, there are many organized and secluded beaches nearby, groves with sports facilities, trekking trails, many museums and sights worth seeing such as the Kamares (medieval aqueduct), the Castle, the great Town Hall which is a Hungarian miniature tower, the Municipal Tobacco Warehouse and the Imaret which is a big edifice of the last Ottoman period. There are also many tourist accommodations in the city and along the coastline.
