Georgetown, Colorado
Recorded July 12, 2014
My sister and I made a short visit to Georgetown for lunch after finishing our trip to the top of Mount Evans.
The historic town of Georgetown is a former silver mining camp along Clear Creek in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The town has a population of just over 1000 people. The town sits at an elevation of 8,530 feet and is nestled in the mountains near the upper end of the valley of Clear Creek in the mountains west of Denver along Interstate 70. Although a small town today, the town was a historic center of the mining industry in Colorado during the late 19th century, earning the nickname the Silver Queen of Colorado. It has evolved into a lively historical summer tourist center today with many preserved structures from the heyday of the Colorado Silver Boom.

Autumn Leaves is a popular song. Originally it was a 1945 French song, fr:Les feuilles mortes (literally The Dead Leaves), with music by Hungarian-French composer Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert. The Hungarian title is Hulló levelek (Falling Leaves). Yves Montand (with Irène Joachim) introduced Les feuilles mortes in the film Les Portes de la nuit (1946).[1]
József Kozma (22 October 1905 – 7 August 1969) was born József Kozma in Budapest.
Kozma - Jew from Hungary emigrated to France in 1933.

Climbing Mt. Bierstadt - Georgetown, Colorado
Even though Mt. Bierstadt is one of the easier 14ers in Colorado to climb, it is still a challenge for those of us who live at lower elevations. This 14,060 foot mountain is totally worth it though. The views from the top are breathtaking, and the sense of accomplishment you get from conquering a 14er is awesome.
In this video I take you along with us as we hike up this mountain. If you are ever in the vicinity of Georgetown, Colorado, it is well worth the time to hike this amazing mountain.
It took several hours to get up and down the thing as we took it pretty slow to conserve energy. Each person took two liters of water with them, but after having done it, I would recommend no less than three just in case.
For this trip we took a group of 10 up. Only 4 made it to the very top and three others got real close before having to turn back.
Before you decide to tackle something like this, please make sure you are prepared for several things:
1) Oxygen levels - if you are not from higher elevations, you can potentially get altitude sickness from trying something like this. Water can help, but one of the best things to do is to acclimate yourself for a few days to the higher elevations before exerting yourself. For a great article on altitude sickness go here:
2) Water/food: It took several hours to climb up and down this mountain. I would suggest no less than three liters of water if you are not used to the higher elevations. Also, some high calorie/carb/protein foods that are light are nice to have to replenish your energy.
3) Shoes: Make sure you have good broken-in shoes to tackle this sort of thing. Blisters will be waiting for you at the bottom if you don't.
4) Time: Start early enough so you can begin your descent around noon. We started out at 8am and that was good for that particular day. If you see any thunderstorms forming, or hear any thunder WHATSOEVER, head down the mountain IMMEDIATELY. That day one person died and 12 were injured because of lightning in this region. Check weather websites before going, but don't trust them 100%.

Georgetown Colorado - A Semi-Abandoned Ghost Town
Georgetown is a breathtaking ghost town that sits 8,530 feet above sea level. It is nestled on the upper side of Clear Creek Valley, in Clear Creek County Colorado. The town is referred to as a “Territorial Charter Municipality”; however, it is considered a semi-abandoned town. This is because it once housed 10,000 residents and now holds just over 1,000 people. This town is far from dead and is fortunate not to be a complete ghost town or have succumbed to wildfire. In fact, it is one of the most well-preserved mining communities from the mid-1800s.
The town was started as a simple gold mining camp in 1859 during the Pike's Peak gold rush. Gold gave Georgetown its start however, it was silver that made the town the largest silver producer in Colorado (until 1878 when Leadville surpassed it). Although the town is small today, it...

Driving to summit of Fremont Pass Continental Divide in Colorado (RUSH Freewill)
I believe I have the unofficial world record for vehicular Continental Divide crossings (currently 95). This trip was to take my dog Alli's photo at a couple crossings she has not been to and for fun of course! This summer (2013) I intend to do the rest of the crossings on the Colorado state map (which are all unpaved and have to be done in summer) which will add significantly to my count. Yeah, it's a weird and quirky hobby and I wouldn't have it any other way :)

Aerial of Colorado as we feature areas along the Colorado River and I-70. We start in Grand Junction and head east as the elevation and snow increases. Beginning at Glenwood Springs you really start to get into the Rockies. We also feature the very popular resort town of Vail. If you are looking for a great Chrstmas get-away check out Georgetown, CO and the as the state motto says, it is more colorful in Colorado. Comparted to Utah, the mountains are alittle higher, there are more trees, beautiful tall spruce, but it is also a lot more crowded.
