Here is some footage of the Guangji Bridge in Chaozhou, Guangdong, I took during my trip of Southern China.



The bridge features a centre floating section. Entry fees are 50 yuan for adults and 25 yuan for schooling children and seniors above 55. Seniors above 65 can enter for free.

On 19th October 2019, a Malaysian watching the evening light performance over the ancient Guangji Bridge at 8pm and 9pm over the weekends.

Guangji Bridge (simplified Chinese: 广济桥; traditional Chinese: 廣濟橋; pinyin: Guǎng Jì Qiáo; literally: Great Charity Bridge), also known as Xiangzi Bridge (simplified Chinese: 湘子桥; traditional Chinese: 湘子橋; pinyin: Xiāng Zǐ Qiáo) is an ancient bridge that crosses the Han River in Chaozhou, Guangdong province, China.[1] A key cultural relic under national protection, the bridge is renowned as one of China's four famous ancient bridges; the other three are the Zhaozhou Bridge, the Lugou Bridge and Luoyang Bridge.It is located in the east of Chaozhou, across Hanjiang River.[2] It was an important bridge for people from two sides of Han River to travel. It is the first open and close style bateau bridge in China, and even in the world. There is an old saying, “到潮不到桥，枉向潮州走一遭.”[1] It means that if you went to Chaozhou without visiting the bridge, you cannot say that you have been to Chaozhou actually. Chaozhou (Teochew) Guangji Bridge 广东潮州广济桥(湘子桥)

Guangji Bridge lies to the east of Chaozhou City in Guangdong Province.

On one side of the bridge is a stone tablet inscribed with four Chinese characters that read: Flood Stops Here. Legend has it that the inscription was written by Han Xiangzi -- one of the Eight Immortals in Chinese mythology. The bridge, therefore, is also known as Xiangzi Bridge. It is one of the four most famous bridges of ancient China.

Its construction began in 1170 in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) and lasted 57 years. Spanning a length of 519.7 meters, the bridge has 18 piers in the east and west sections and a middle section 100 meters long. More piers were built in 1435 in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the bridge's name was changed to Guangji Bridge. The bridge later underwent five large-scale repairs. In 1638, it caught fire and all the bridge's pavilions were burnt down.

Layers of granite form 24 large and small piers. These piers are precious relics of Chinese architecture. The middle section of the bridge comprised 18 shuttle boats chained together to form a pontoon. This feature allowed the structure to open and close for larger passing vessels. Two iron oxen placed on both ends of the pontoon bridge in 1723, are now lost. In 1958, the shuttle boats were dismantled due to traffic needs and a vehicular bridge was rebuilt in its place. An iron ox was mounted on the bridge in 1980.

Restoration work for the bridge began in October 2003 and was completed by mid-2007. The restored bridge returns the unique feature of the 18 shuttle boats in the mid-section.

广济桥，俗称湘子桥，位于潮州古城东门外，横跨韩江，始建于南宋乾道七年（公元１１７１年），全长５１８米。其十八梭船廿四洲，廿四楼台廿四样之风格形成于明代。当年的２４个桥墩上建有２４个式样各异的亭台楼阁，桥中间的一段用铁链串连１８艘木船，方便洪水入海及巨轮通行。该桥集梁桥、拱桥、浮桥于一体，是中国桥梁史上的孤例，被誉为世界上最早的启闭式桥梁，与赵州桥、洛阳桥、卢沟桥并称中国古代四大古桥，在海内外享有较高的知名度。

广济桥是潮州文化一座主要的历史地标，是建筑智慧的结晶，也是中华人文精神的体现，更承载着海内外数千万潮人对故土乡情的记忆。然而受各种自然灾害的影响，广济桥桥体损坏严重。大部分桥墩出现淘空、倾斜和沉降，必须加紧抢救工作。

广济桥修复工程从２００３年１０月开工。一期工程对古桥墩进行维修加固，恢复石梁桥面及石栏杆，并拆除１９５８年改建的钢架梁，恢复十八梭船的启闭式浮桥。二期工程则恢复桥上的亭台楼阁。

2018年2月10日晚上20点整，潮州广济桥灯光秀正式向市民游客见面，是潮州“一江两岸”夜景亮灯工程的重要一环。广济桥灯光秀非常美丽，在灯光下具有明显的潮州文化特色，使得广济桥在夜晚下不再死气沉沉。而且背景音乐既有潮州大锣鼓，又有潮州原创歌曲、童谣，更有震撼的音乐。广济桥灯光秀可谓是潮州新增添的一道风景线。

Watched this 10 - 15 minutes light performance at least twice nightly on Saturdays and Sundays only at 8pm and 9pm in Chaoshan or Teochew, China. They hold only 1 night performance on weekdays either at 8pm or 9pm.

廣濟橋，俗稱湘子橋，位於廣東省潮州市東門外，為古代閩粵交通要道。與趙縣趙州橋、惠安縣洛陽橋及北京蘆溝橋並稱「中國四大古橋」，集拱橋、樑橋及浮橋於一體，為中國第一座啟閉式浮橋。廣濟橋始建於南宋乾道七年（公元1171年），初為浮橋，由浮船連結而成，初名康濟橋。後自兩岸向江心逐墩修築，至紹定元年（公元1228年），建成23墩。明宣德十年（公元1435年），潮州知府王源主持大橋重修，於橋上修築樓閣12座，橋屋126間，並統一名稱為廣濟橋。後形成目前十八梭船廿四洲風格。清雍正二年（公元1724年），時任知府張自謙再修，並鑄鉎牛二隻，分置西橋第八墩和東橋第十二墩，意在「鎮橋御水」。道光二十二年（公元1842年）洪水，東墩鉎牛墜入江中。有此民謠道：「潮州湘橋好風流，十八梭船廿四洲，廿四樓台廿四樣，二隻鉎牛一隻溜」。橋全長約520米，現存古橋墩21座，為全國重點文物保護單位。1958年，當地政府對大橋做了全面的修理與加固。2003年至2007年，對廣濟橋按照最輝煌時期的明代進行了修復，恢復了「十八梭船」的啟閉式浮橋，修復了橋上的12座樓閣和18座亭屋，並加上匾額與對聯，定位為旅遊觀光步行橋。橋全長約520米，現存古橋墩21座，為全國重點文物保護單位。廣濟橋草創階段，便有築亭、“覆華屋”於橋墩上的舉措，並冠以“冰壺”、“玉鑒”等美稱。明宣德年間，知府王源除了在500多米長的橋上建造百二十六間亭屋之外，還在各個橋墩上修築樓台，並分別以奇觀、廣濟、淩霄、登瀛、得月、朝仙、乘駟、飛躍、涉川、右通、左達、濟川、雲衢、冰壺、小蓬萊、鳳麟洲、摘星、淩波、飛虹、觀灩、浥翠、澄鑒、升仙、仰韓為名。至此，橋樓之設，乃造其極。誠如明代李齡在《廣濟賦》中所雲：“方文一樓、十丈一閣，華稅彤撩，雕榜金桷，曲欄橫檻，丹漆黝堊，鱗瓦參差，檐牙高啄……”古代嶺南風雨橋是常見的，但規模如此之大，形式如此之多，裝飾如此之美，確實是世罕其匹。
韓愈紀念館即韓文公祠，位於潮州城東筆架山麓，唐代元和十四年（西元819年），著名政治家、思想家、文學家韓愈，由於向皇帝提出停止迎接法門寺佛骨到長安供奉的建議，觸怒了皇帝，被令處死，幸得宰相裴度等講情，改貶為潮州刺史。韓愈以戴罪之身，在潮七個多月，把中原先進文化帶到嶺南，辦教育，驅鱷魚，為民眾做了許多好事，被潮人奉為神，潮人並將筆架山改稱韓山，山下的鱷溪改稱韓江。
饒宗頤學術館，始建於1993年11月，是第一個潮籍名人學術館。該館占地面積450多平方米，建築面積700平方米。學術館坐北朝南，大門上有啟功題字的「饒宗頤學術館」橫匾，文氣斐然。樓內第一層展廳以「譽傳寰宇耀名邦」為題，介紹饒先生歷年行跡及主要學術貢獻；第二層題為「墨瀋丹青動藝林」，陳列了饒先生的書畫作品；第三層展廳則以「曠世奇才饒宗頤」為題，從「博大精深」、「預流導路」、「勤奮自勵」三個方面，對饒先生的學術成就及治學精神，予以述評、介紹；第四層則為小型會議廳。此外，尚有收藏圖籍的「書巢」及再現歷史環境的「選堂讀書處」等設置。 2006年重建了饒宗頤學術館，年底剪綵落成。學術館經過擴大，裝修，成為一座古色古香的「頤園」。
