Guangxiao Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Guangzhou, the capital of China's Guangdong Province. As the special geographical position, Guangxiao Temple often acted as a stopover point for Asian missionary monks in the past. It also played a central role in propagating various elements of Buddhism, including precepts school, Chan (Zen), esoteric (Shingon) Buddhism, and Pure Land. Particularly, Huineng, the sixth Chinese patriarch of Chan Buddhism, made his first public Chan lecture and was tonsured in Guangxiao Temple; Esoteric Buddhist master Amoghavajra’s first teaching of esoteric Buddhism is thought to have been in Guangxiao Temple. It was also a translation center in Southern China, where Buddhist scriptures were translated by Yijing and the Shurangama-sūtra was translated by Paramitiin--these texts served to promote the establishment of Mahāyāna Buddhism as the mainstream philosophy of Chinese (even Asia-Pacific) Buddhism. With the development of globalization, Guangxiao Temple is now exerting even more positive effects on the propagation of Buddhism via international communications and Buddhist tourism.

Temple of the Six Banyan Trees - Liurong Temple- Guangzhou, China
This temple was built in 573 AD to house relics of Buddha received from India. The temple has had different names through history, but settled on Liu Rong or Six Banyan Trees Temple in 1100 A.D. when famous writer Su Dongpo wrote about the beautiful trees that once stood here. The Flowery Pagoda appears to be 9 stories high from the outside, but is actually 17 stories on the inside. The temple houses massive brass Buddhas each weighing 10-tons and being 3 meters or nearly 20 feet in height.

Having Lunch Inside A Buddhist Temple! Guangzhou, China
I’ve been craving Chinese food for a while and visiting this place seemed like the perfect solution for it.
You may wonder how such craving is possible living in China, however, I live in a very westernized area and the Chinese food available near me is not vegan.
It is confirmed, this place is a gem to end that baozi(Chinese bun) craving and I find it’s also just perfect for tourists. You are able to visit a stunning temple and eat the local food in a great ambiance and atmosphere, all in one.
The beautiful temple is located near Beijing Road, a famous shopping street, it may be one more attraction for the combo if shopping is your cup of tea.
After the meal, a stroll around the Gold Buddha temple will bring you pure joy, and if lucky you’ll be around at the ceremony time and witness the beauty of it. This bit can’t be recorded, no problem though, have a look at the majestic and gigantic golden Buddhas for yourself and let us know how you feel. ????

Guangzhou Dr. Sun Yat Sen's Memorial Hall, Yuexiu Park, Liurong Temple, Guangxiao Temple
Guangzhou, China. We started our day going to Dr. Sun Yet Sen's Memorial Hall. The entrance ticket costs 20 RMB, and if you want to get a piece of paper to put some stamps on, you'll pay 1 RMB. After sightseeing here for awhile we went to Yuexiu Park, where we rented a luxury boat for 70 RMB for 30 minutes and enjoyed a great view and relaxed atmosphere. Then we decided to walk to Liurong Temple and Guangxiao Temple nearby.
