A real traveler needs a holistic view of a city so in sharp contrast to the Marrakech medina area, Gueliz it's a must see to get a better idea of how Morocco's really is. This is where the modern Morocco citizens like spend time. As you may know, there are two very distinctive areas in Marrakesh: one is the Old Medina (old city) and the new Marrakesh, which is a kinda European style district called Ville Nouvelle or Gueliz. If you wanna walk, everything can be seen on foot but a GPS is key.

It was an a surprise to find the modern part of Marrakech because it linked modernity with tradition. Beautiful buildings respecting Arabic architecture painted with Marroquin traditional colors, shapes, balconies (re-inventing the Jewish characteristic of the Medina), etc.
Large avenues, gardens full of beautiful and exotic plants, flowers and trees, imposing squares, lovely fountains but above all a very cosmopolitan atmosphere. If you know other Moroccan towns or even other African towns, you will be positively surprised by the organization, cleanness, security and diversity of Marrakech
Ville Nouvelle or Gueliz it's the complete opposite to old Marrakech in terms of what the people are like, how they dress, food that's eaten and atmosphere. Worth a visit just to see a new angle. The heart of the new part of Marrakech, the Gueliz region offers an alternative vibe to the traditional and relaxed old medina atmosphere. Here we explore the most unmissable activities in this Moroccan area.

I must say that this it's not the best of places to go to in Marrakech if you only want to know the tradicional old culture but, after a few days, the Marrakech Old Medina may overwhelm you. Yes, it's beautiful and nostalgic and there are tons of things to see and but, you may need a break. Who doesn't? This area its just a few minutes away the Medina Souks and it's more relaxed. You will find a more western style of life with coffee stores and shops. Most people speak English, French, Spanish and of course, Arabic. This is the place where you find essentials things like water, groceries, SIM cards, Zara Store, H&M, Starbucks and even Mcdonalds. Although Gueliz its modern and cosmopolitan, you feel you still in Africa. Very modern buildings, nice shops and restaurants, very lively neighbourhood.

This area it's completely different from the Medina and closer to the feeling of big cities around the world. Interesting to see how Moroccan culture applies to a modern environment. Give yourself a pause from these chaotic narrow streets and dust from the Old Medina. Jemaa el Fna is not far from Gueliz. You can just walk, it's close and pretty safe. Anyway a 5 euro taxi can ride you there. New town is part of the Marrakech culture too and you'll be close to the action and culture.
How do you say it: Marrakech or Marrakesh? Don’t worry, both are okay! Marrakech Morocco in 4K by Wanna Walk - The common English spelling is Marrakesh and Marrakech in French is also widely used. I was told that the name Marrakech comes from the words amur kush which means The Land of God. This is the third largest city in Morocco with less population than Casablanca and Fez. The city lies near of the Atlas Mountains and it's pretty close to the Sahara Desert. Be sure to also visit the square of Jemaa El-Fna is very popular, in particular in the Marrakech's night. Lovely atmosphere at night in Gueliz, vibrant and safe. Much more fun to stay in Gueliz and then dip in and out of the medina.

Living in GUELIZ MARRAKECH MOROCCO w/ Flexpat
I'm in Gueliz Marrakech, Morocco for a taste of what it's like living in Marrakech! Gueliz Morocco is a nice neighbourhood of Marrakech where lots of people live who want to be in the city but not in the madness. Gueliz Marrakech is filled with nice shops and restaurants, so much good Moroccoan food. This was a taste of what it's like living in Marrakech Morocco and I liked it!
Also, Gueliz Marrakech has The Spot which is a coworking space. Flexpat is a company that brings people together who want to travel the world and get stuff done. What I love about Flexpat is that you show up in a strange city and instantly have a community of likeminded individuals who want to be productive but also explore the area.
I really liked staying in Gueliz Marrakech because it had everything I needed and was close to everything. Gueliz is about a 15-20 minute walk from Medina which is without a doubt one of the most common places for tourists to stay. I liked visiting Marrakech Medina but enjoyed returning to Gueliz.
Gueliz Marrakech was the perfect place for me and should I return for another episode of living in Marrakech, Morocco you can be sure I'll be staying in Gueliz.

Marrakech Center, Gueliz by FOOT!
Marrakech is Morocco's top tourist destination, as well as one of the most fascinating and exciting cities in the world. It is exotic, inexpensive and friendly, and is full of history and things to do. A Marrakech city break will certainly provide you with countless unforgettable memories of this charming and mysterious city, where tradition, modernity, magic and charm will take you to a unique and extraordinary universe.
A good way to start your Marrakech city break is by choosing the appropriate accommodation in the Ochre City. The best choice is no doubt to rent a Marrakesh riad, which are traditional houses turned into hotels or guesthouses while preserving their original structure and style. Most Riads are located inside the medina or old town, but a most convenient ryad Marrakech will be near the Djemaa El Fna square, the geographical and cultural centre of the city.
The next step will be to explore the surroundings of your riad. The souk of Marrakech is one of the largest in North Africa and there you will find all sorts of items, from the spices that constitute the very soul of Moroccan couscous and tajine, to all sorts of arts and crafts, including hand-woven carpets, furniture, musical instruments, clothes, food, lamps, leather goods, etc.
Once you have filled your eyes -and emptied your pockets- with all these wonderful treats, you can head to a more elevated perspective of this culturally abundant city. One of the most interesting architectural sites is the Ben Youssef Madrasah, the largest Islamic college in Morocco founded in the 14th century, were 130 student dormitory cells surround a courtyard richly carved in marble, cedar wood, and stucco. Other interesting sites are the stunning Badi and El Bahia Palaces, the Saadian Tombs in the Kasbah, the iconic Koutoubia mosque and minaret or the Dar Si Saïd Museum.
If you want to loosen up after your expedition through the vibrant and intense medina, a great choice is a visit to some of the beautiful gardens in the city. The Majorelle Gardens are a refreshing and beautiful sight, where a stunning collection of Moroccan art, surrounded by an exotic forest of bamboo trees and cacti of all shapes and sizes, will no doubt delight your senses and help you unwind.
But for the absolute relaxing experience, don not miss a visit to one of the countless and most delightful hammams or Turkish baths in Marrakech. Among the many services and well-being treatments offered, you can treat yourselves to a massage with essential oils and perfumes, a sauna or steam bath session, peeling and beauty cares, skin and body treatments, aromatherapy sessions, etc.
After the hammam, you can head to one of the charming and celebrated cafés of Marrakech, full of life and character. Some of the most beautiful cafés in the city are the Café de la Poste, an elegant colonial café in Gueliz; the Café des Epices, a most pleasant café in the medina offering a stunning view from its rooftop terrace; the Café de France on the Djemaa El Fna square or the Café Redouane, an absolutely charming and unpretentious café in the Daoudiate neighbourhood with a little fountain in the middle and nested in a lovely gardens.
Eating is another of the many treats that offers Marrakech, and it is most inexpensive and quite delightful. Moroccan cuisine is varied, rich and tasty and includes an enormous variety of tajines (typical Maghrebi dish) and couscous, a delicious range of fish and meat dishes, and all sorts of absolutely exquisite and inescapable sweets and pastry. It is quite easy to find a good place to eat in Marrakech, from the exclusive and elegant restaurants found in most hotels and riads to the snacks or local bistros found all over the place.

MARRAKECH MOROCCO VLOG 2018
This is a Marrakech Morocco vlog where I explore the streets of Gueliz Marrakech in search of the perfect haircut. I like Gueliz Marrakech and hope you enjoy this Marrakech Morocco vlog. Alright, not looking for the perfect haircut in Marrakech, just a haircut really. Of course I get a not so great haircut which is all too common ha. Either way, visiting Marrakech is good times and I hope this video gives you a slightly better idea.
This should give you a bit of an idea of what it's like living in Marrakech, not just going to a tourist spot. Lots of development it seemed and lots of shopping and amenities, I liked it.
Something I like about Marrakech and the Gueliz area in general is all the action. There are shops, foods with great Moroccan food or just a salad bar like you're in any major city. There are high end shopping options as well as places to buy peanuts on the street for well, peanuts! There is literally everything you could need.
Marrakech is a place which has really surprised me in a good way. I wasn't sure what to expect but really enjoyed my time in Marrakech, Morocco. Hopefully if you visit this gives you an idea of what it's like wandering around the streets of Marrakech and going about your daily business.
GUELIZ + JARDIN MAJORELLE MOROCCO | MARRAKECH ????????
