My reasons for posting this video
I was under a month old, born in London, when this tragedy occurred. My Dad was in the R.N. when they were hunting the battleship Scharnhorst in the freezing seas north of Norway. My gran's house where we'd been living was bombed in the Blitz. One of my uncles died on the Burma railway and my Mum, virtually single- handed, successfully raised 4 children (2 more came later) during those dreadful years.
In later life I moved to this area where I met my wife and we raised our own family.
It was my brother-in-law Charlie (he'd been one of the youngsters who came out from the village to find the wreckage the following morning) who took me on one cold wet Boxing Day to see the memorial. It was then the idea for the poem started.
I was saddened at the young ages of the crew (my own youngest son is 39) and their desperate bad luck, they were only a matter of seconds away from safety. It must have been heart breaking for their parents, wives, girlfriends and loved ones.
The fact that they were a mixed crew of Canadians and British is testament to how the Canadians stood shoulder to shoulder with us in those dark and terrible days and I hope this is understood when in my poem I refer to them as 'the brothers true who went to war'.
A Spitfire, a Hurricane and a Lancaster bomber often fly over this area when travelling to air shows. They make a brave and evocative sound.
The farmer who owns the land is proud to have the memorial there and the memorial is always smart and well cared for.
They are not forgotten.

The cold December rain in squalls
Driving, dashing through the air
Strikes the granite where it falls
To run like tears of bleak despair
Across the golden words engraved
Which starkly mark the tragic tale
Of six men lost and one life saved
Upon this English farmland vale.
To run like tears for loved ones lost
And flaming youth that burns no more
For those who dared and paid the cost
The brothers true who went to war
On that far December day
With Christmas but a week away
We will remember them
We could not forget them.
These brave young men who heard the call
Who fought for us
Who gave their all.

OPEN TOP BUS AROUND EXMOOR Part 2
Photographs taken from the open top of a classic bus driving across Exmoor. This part 2 covers the journey from Exford and then on up across the Moor to the high ground at the top of Porlock Hill. We then travel down the famous very steep hill, through the village and finally on into Minehead where the tour began. Regarding a music sound track to go with the pictures, you wouldnt hear music when on this journey so I will leave the scenery speak for itself!

2011 Haytor Heller.wmv
2011 Haytor Heller was organised by Teignbridge Trotters on Saturday 16th July 2011.
This popular, well established moorland race starts below Haytor Rock and follows a hilly, circular route before returning once again to Haytor Rock with a fast downhill finale to the finish opposite the middle car park at Haytor. The approx. 6 mile course is challenging with several steep ascents and descents and is generally run across rugged, open moorland, apart from two sections through woodland; firstly below Hound Tor and secondly below Haytor which includes a stream crossing.
The course is completely off-road.

SUMMARY
=======
New Jersey is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the Northeastern United States. It is a peninsula, bordered on the north and east by the state of New York; on the east, southeast, and south by the Atlantic Ocean; on the west by the Delaware River and Pennsylvania; and on the southwest by the Delaware Bay and Delaware. New Jersey is the fourth-smallest state by area but the 11th-most populous, with 9 million residents as of 2017, and the most densely populated of the 50 U.S. states. New Jersey lies completely within the combined statistical areas of New York City and Philadelphia and is the third-wealthiest state by median household income as of 2016.New Jersey was inhabited by Native Americans for more than 2,800 years, with historical tribes such as the Lenape along the coast. In the early 17th century, the Dutch and the Swedes made the first European settlements in the state. The English later seized control of the region, naming it the Province of New Jersey after the largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey, and granting it as a colony to Sir George Carteret and John Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley of Stratton. New Jersey was the site of several decisive battles during the American Revolutionary War in the 18th century.
In the 19th century, factories in cities (known as the Big Six), Camden, Paterson, Newark, Trenton, Jersey City, and Elizabeth helped to drive the Industrial Revolution. New Jersey's geographic location at the center of the Northeast megalopolis, between Boston and New York City to the northeast, and Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., to the southwest, fueled its rapid growth through the process of suburbanization in the second half of the 20th century. In the first decades of the 21st century, this suburbanization began reverting with the consolidation of New Jersey's culturally diverse populace toward more urban settings within the state, with towns home to commuter rail stations outpacing the population growth of more automobile-oriented suburbs since 2008.
