A Rock Climbers' Guide to Cinque Torri in the Italian Dolomites | Rock Climbing Vlog Ep. 36
Cinque Torri (5 Torri) in the Italian Dolomites is one of the best rock climbing spots in Europe. In this rock climbing video, I will introduce you to Cinque Torri in the Italian Dolomites and talk about what multi pitch routes and why you should visit this spectacular place in the Italian Dolomites next to Tofana de Rozes. And if you watch the full rock climb-ing video I will share a few tips about accommodation close to Cinque Torri, so you are not consuming all of your time approaching
Cinque Torri is a series of rock towers located just south of Passo Falzarego above Cortina d’Ampezzo. Even though Cinque Torri means ‘Five Towers’, there are actually several more - Torre Grande being the largest one. Here you will find over 150 multipitch rock climbing routes and sport climbing routes! The multipitch are rather short and usually no more than between 50 to 150 meters. Due to the short routes, Cinque Torri in the Italian Dolomites, is a great place if you are a beginner looking for building multipitch skill or if your time in the Italian Dolomites is limited.
Most rock climbing routes at Cinque Torri (5 Torri) are mixed trad within grade III to VII, but there are also fully bolted sport climbing routes up to French 7b. Therefore the multipitch climbing routes are very beginner friendly. Most of the multipitch routes at Cinque Torri (5 Torri) are equipped with pitons or are scarcely bolted, so I would really recommend to bring a small rack of cams
The classical rock climbing routes at Cinque Torri (5 Torri) are Via Myriam, Diretta Dimai and Via Finlandia on Torre Grande, but there are numerous other really great climbs.
If you are looking for longer, harder multipitch rock climbing routes then you should probably consider climbing the Tofana di Rozes overlooking the Cinque Torri from the North. Or you should consider going to Marmolada or Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
In terms of accommodation there are two refugio’s close by. Refugio Scoiattoli and Rifugio Cinque Torri. Since it is illegal to camp in the Dolomites outside camping sites you should consider staying at one of these to minimize approach. You can park your car at Baita Bai de Dones and hike up or take the skiflift. Or you can drive up the extremely narrow road to Rifugio Cinque Torri, but there are not many parking spots here and it is very hard to make a u-turn.
If you have enjoyed watching this rock climbing video about Cinque Torri (5 Torri) in the Italian Dolomites, then you should also consider watching some of the other rock climbing videos that I have done from the Italian Dolomites!
And leave a comment below if you have some insights about other great sport climbing crags around the Italian Dolomites.

Strada Delle Dolomiti Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Strada Delle Dolomiti in Austria.
The Strada Delle Dolomiti that stretches across 109 kilometre across the mountain landscape of the Southern Tyrol is a superb and dramatic experience in any season.Past centuries-old farmhouses, mountain peaks tease the sky majestically and whether it’s mountain climbing or hiking, the Dolomites offer something for everyone and for motorcars, cyclists and motorbikes, the mountain roads pose a real challenge. Three pinnacles are considered to be the essence of the Dolomites, namely the Western, Large and Small Pinnacle. The view of the three pinnacles is magnificent as Nature manifests itself as the petrified air of high altitude, the fickleness of the wind and the blinding light of eternal snow. Cortina D´Ampezzo is Italy’s main alpine resort and visitors from all over the world holiday in this splendid town the centre of which has a good deal of old world charm and where the facades of its chalets and hotels are covered with frescos painted by great artists. The stretch of land from the Schlüterhütte to the Grödner Joch has been described as “a pearl of a landscape”. The route travels across small peaks and leads to a meadow of edelweiss and a mountain journey via cable car brings the steep mountain walls to within one’s grasp. At the Giro d´Italia, the world’s finest cyclists fight it out over several Dolomite passes. One of the laps crosses the highest point, the Pordoi Pass. For those who wish to spend some time here, there are several first class hotels, well-equipped Alpine chalets and comfortable guesthouses. The Dolomites have been granted the status of World Heritage Site by Unesco, a small section of Planet Earth that should be nurtured, quite rightly, as though it is a unique and rare work of natural art.

In today's vlog, we take a bus from Venice to Cortina in the Dolomites Mountain range - known as the Dolomitos in Italian, went up the ski lift thingy and saw some of the most incredible views. We're here in Venice, Italy, or Venezia, Italia in Italian. We're staying at a hotel called Bauer Palladio Hotel & Spa, a luxury 5 star hotel on the water here in Venice. Day 1, getting the Easyjet plane from Edinburgh to Venice, then finding out that we need to get a water taxi to our hotel. That was fun.

The Dolomites: Live from Cortina d'Ampezzo
Winter sports, apres-ski, James Bond film set -- but even in summer Cortina is not to be missed. Cortina d'Ampezzo is the jewel of the Dolomites, the Italian mountain range that's just a few hours away from Venice. More famous as a winter ski resort and setting for James Bond films, Tony and Helen Page found it well worth exploring in summer, and a good base for exploring the picturesque Alpine region.
The clouds are coming in, it's late afternoon and here we are in Cortina d'Ampezzo. (Someone sneezes) Oh, nice sneeze, unfortunately lots of people seem to have colds around here. The basic shops are open and people, as you can hear, are wandering by, having come out after a rather desolate centre of the day period, when only a few cafes seem to be open. Of course, it's the summer.
Let's just sweep around here. It's pretty dull once the light misses the street, which you'll see. This is the main street which is Corso Italia. The architecture is pretty typical and this cafe which is now in the shadow was where we had a nice lunch - well, alright, it was not too nice, I'll be honest, the coffee was good - when it was all in sunlight. It's actually very hot in the sunlight. Okay, that's about the full circle. I'll go and see if I can find more sunlight in Cortina.
Okay, so I found some more sunlight. There's the church and this very impressive building, I'm not quite clear what it is. I asked a few people, but so far nobody's given me a good answer. You see the hotel, I tried to pick out a little bit of colour for you. Flowers everywhere and also, motorbikes. Let's go and see here. This morning we went up the mountain (Ed: Dolomites) and it was amazing the number of mostly German and Italian biking clubs that we saw everywhere.
The tower and the graceful gable of that church actually look quite attractive.
Just as a contrast, here we are inside the parish church of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Quite nice really. It doesn't seem to be mentioned in many of the books though. It's a pleasant change from the hubbub that suddenly developed outside.
Well, here we are back on the main street of Cortina D'Ampezzo. there's our hotel (Ed: Hotel Ancora) and Helen just coming out of it. It's 4 o'clock, just 5 o'clock sorry, and people are really coming out onto the streets. It's amazing the difference, to tell you the truth. As I said there's our hotel we're currently staying at. It's an interesting place, very good service, but they're doing some renovations and the owner has moved into one of the top rooms with his dog - quite interesting. It's also notable for its extremely pneumatic young lady in a state of undress, falling off her horse, apparently. I think I'll do a close-up here. As you can see, not quite Michelangelo, but never mind.
Anyway, there's not a lot of activity in the sense of things other than people aimlessly walking around and peering into the shops, which are just opening actually, and going on. But, you've got to say, it's a very beautiful place and in fact there are a lot of cable cars and things around the place which would give you quite a few days' activities as you take the cable cars up the various mountains and wander around up there. Certainly very beautiful and very impressive mountains. Anyway, we're off to Venice again tomorrow, so let's see how it goes.

Invernalissima alle Cinque Torri di Cortina, Dolomiti, Italy.
Alpinismo invernale: Cinque Torri di Cortina, Dolomiti. Torre Grande, via Averau.

Places to see in ( Cortina d'Ampezzo - Italy )
Places to see in ( Cortina d'Ampezzo - Italy )
Cortina d’Ampezzo is a ski resort in northern Italy. It’s part of the Dolomiti Superski area, which encompasses the Falzarego Pass, with its downhill runs. Sites from the 1956 Winter Games held in Cortina include the Ice Stadium, the Eugenio Monti bobsleigh run and the disused ski jump Trampolino Olimpico Italia. The Tofane area is the site of a Women’s Ski World Cup race and Cortina Snow Park for jumps and tricks.
Cortina d'Ampezzo commonly referred to as Cortina, is a town and comune in the heart of the southern (Dolomitic) Alps in the Veneto region of Northern Italy. Situated on the Boite river, in an alpine valley, it is a winter sport resort known for its skiing trails, scenery, accommodation, shops and après-ski scene, and for its jet set and aristocratic European crowd.
In the Middle Ages Ampezzo fell under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Aquileia and of the Holy Roman Empire. In 1420 it was conquered by the Republic of Venice. It then spent much of its history under Austrian rule, briefly undergoing some territorial changes under Napoleon, before being returned to Austria, who held it until 1918. From the nineteenth century, Ampezzo became a notable regional centre for crafts.
The local handmade products were appreciated by early British and German holidaymakers as tourism emerged late nineteenth century. Among the specializations of the town were crafting wood for furniture, the production of tiled stoves and iron, copper and glass items. Today, the local economy thrives on tourism, particularly during the winter season, when the population of the town typically increases from about 7,000 to 40,000. The Basilica Minore dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo was built between 1769 and 1775 on the site of two former thirteenth and sixteenth-century churches; it is home to the parish and the deanery of Cortina d'Ampezzo. The town also contains the Rinaldo Zardini Palaeontology Museum, established in 1975, the Mario Rimoldi Modern Art Museum, and the Regole of Ampezzo Ethnographic Museum.
Although Cortina was unable to go ahead with the scheduled 1944 Winter Olympics because of World War II, it hosted the Winter Olympics in 1956 and subsequently a number of world winter-sports events. The town is home to SG Cortina, a top league professional ice hockey team, and Cortina is also the start and end point of the annual Dolomites Gold Cup Race. Several films have been shot in the town, mostly notably The Pink Panther (1963), For Your Eyes Only (1981) and Cliffhanger (1993). Every year, from the end of July to early August, Cortina hosts the Dino Ciani Festival and Academy, which attracts pianists from around the world.
Near the bridge on the Bigontina River is the Town Hall, a palace in the Tyrolean style. Piazza Venezia houses several landmarks. The Ciasa de ra Regoles is one of the more important legal buildings in Cortina, where the regolieri — a council for the local villages that stood before the town merged — trained the community and gave administrative orders. It was at one time the center of Ampezzo's administration. Currently, it contains the offices of Comunanza Regole and the Modern Art Museum Mario Rimoldi. The building also contains the office of the Scuola Sci Cortina, Cortina's skiing school.
