Praia do Guincho Norte (Cascais) Portugal
CYCLE : Cascais to Guincho - Portugal
Welcome to Portugal!
This is a cycle trail from the seaside town of Cascais to Guincho Beach, just 25 kms from the capital, Lisbon.
The scenic road you will be cycling has been used in several TV productions and even a James Bond movie was shot at Guincho beach in the 60s.
The beach is famous for its golden sands and water sport activities. In the summer you have strong North-Western winds, which is great for kite surfing and windsurfing. In autumn and winter, the wind calms down and you´ll find some perfect waves. Several international surf and body board championships are being organized here regularly.
From Guincho beach you will also be able to see the Cabo da Roca, a cape which forms the westernmost extent of continental Europe. And behind that you will also see the Sintra mountains. Sintra is known for its many 19th-century romantic architectural monuments, which resulted in its classification as UNESCO World Heritage site. It has become a major tourist centre and in addition to the mountains and the nature park, Sintra is dotted with royal retreats, estates, castles and other buildings, including the mediaeval Castle of the Moors, the Pena Palace and Sintra National Palace.

Cycling Cascais To Guincho Beach | Portugal
Cycling from Cascais to Guincho beach. The 5km bike path is extremely well kept, and follows the coastline the entire way providing some pretty epic views.
When I was researching this before getting to Cascais, I kept seeing that there are free bicas. However, those articles and posts seem to be pretty old, and I don't think they exist anymore. Cascais seems to have a pretty standard bike sharing system with stations around the city and a mobile app you can use to take them (which I assume you pay for). Honestly, I downloaded the app but gave up trying to register because I didn't have all the necessary information (Portuguese number, address, etc). We wound up just renting bikes from a local place, which was fine because they were much better bikes then the bike share ones.
I haven't seen many videos on YouTube that show the entire bike path, so hopefully this will provide a little insight of what to expect to someone out there.

Grande do Guincho beach is located between two rocky tips, the high tip and the tip of the fan, with a great length of sand, both in length and width.
With clear and crystal clear water, Grande do Guincho beach is considered one of the largest beaches in the country, with a high influx of vacationers, being part of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. It is also sought by surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers, where world championships of these same modalities are held.
The Sintra Mountains and the dunes provide an internationally recognized landscape setting. Due to the action of the wind, the beach faces south with the “Guincho-Cresmina” dune system of great geological dynamism. There are dunes of various types on this beach: the embryonic moving dunes, which represent the first states of dune vegetation; the white dunes, which are the closest sandy strands to the sea; as well as the gray dunes, which are fixed, stabilized and colonized by more or less dense perennial boulders and abundant carpets of lichen and moss.
On this beach you can see a volcanic chimney, consisting of an important outcrop of basaltic rock, exposed during low tide.

ABOUT THIS VLOG:
➡ Cascais, Portugal, has for many years been a popular tourist destination for sunshine hungry people. Cascais actually became popular before Lisbon, which is why Cascais is a very polished area that today is where the rich and famous live in their huge mansions.
Cascais has a lot to offer so it can be hard to know where to start.
What we did was to explore the best and most popular things to do which includes the old town of Cascais, Boca do Inferno, Guincho Beach and Cabo da Roca.
The old town of Cascais is super charming and a great place to relax and just enjoy life. There are a lot of tourists traps, but if you do your research you will be just fine. This is also a place where you can shop til you drop although the selection isn't overly impressive.
A short drive from Cascais Old Town is Boca do Interno, which is a beach front cliff area with magnificent views and nice restaurants. It's a wonderful place to come a unwind and just enjoy the waves coming in. And speaking of waves Guincho Beach is an obvious must-visit. This is the go-to beach of Cascais, where surfers, tanners, tourists and locals mix together in a good blend without causing too much traffic. The beautiful beach is surrounded by plenty of restaurants and hotels including Fortaleza do Guincho, which has a 1-star Michelin restaurant that is worth visiting.
Finally, visiting Cabo da Roca is great way to end the day and enjoy the sunset. This is the most western point of continental Europe, which is also why lots of tourists flock to the place. There are a lot of tourists, which is a drawback, but you can't beat that view. It's just incredible!
