Gullah Artists Bunny Rodrigues
Bunny Rodrigues grew up in Georgetown's historic district, hearing stories and Gullah patois that hearkened back even further than life on these shores. Her interest in ancestral history led her to collect unique items that celebrate the Gullah heritage, and to open a museum that shares the culture.

South Carolina's Important Role in African-American History
February is African-American history month. Some may ask “Why celebrate African-American history, isn’t that American history?” Absolutely, but unfortunately for hundreds of years, much of the history related to those of African descent was either totally ignored or misrepresented. South Carolina plays a major role in this more inclusive look at American history; because for many people of African descent in the United States today, Sullivan’s Island S.C. is where their “American” history began.

Hobcaw Barony Wildlife Refuge Offers History and Beauty
Hobcaw Barony is a 17,500-acre wildlife refuge owned and operated by Belle W. Baruch Foundation, a non-profit organization. Made as a royal land grant in 1718, Hobcaw Barony was eventually subdivided into 14 individual plantations. It became the winter residence of Wall Street millionaire and presidential adviser Bernard Baruch. Mr. Baruch's daughter, Belle, purchased all of the barony over a period of several years and at her death a foundation was created to use the land for the purposes of teaching and/or research in forestry, marine biology, and the care and propagation of wildlife, flora and fauna in connection with colleges and/or universities in the state of South Carolina.
