Warradjan Cultural Center, Kakadu national park, Australia 2011
Learning about Aboriginal art and culture is central to the World Heritage Listed Kakadu National Park and Arnhem Land experience. Start your visit at the Warradjan Cultural Centre near Cooinda. There you will discover the ways in which land means life for Aboriginal traditional landowners of Kakadu in a fascinating exhibit that explains their cultures.
The exhibit 'Our Land is Our Life' explains hunting techniques used in different seasons, the recent history of the park, blood lines and marriage rights, tribal elder stories and the effects of white settlement in the Top End. The gallery 'Come Look and Feel Our Culture' helps you to gain an understanding of the Aboriginal traditional landowners (Bininj) and their country.
After you have journeyed through the display and explored the many facets of Bininj Culture, you can browse through a gallery of arts and crafts from the Kakadu, Arnhem Land and Katherine regions, on display and for sale. The majority of artworks are produced by local artists of this country.
Warradjan Cultural Centre is open from 9am to 5pm daily and is located two kilometres from Cooinda Lodge Kakadu and Yellow Water Billabong.

EAST ALLIGATOR RIVER ABORIGINAL CULTURAL TOUR KAKADU NATIONAL PARK NT AUSTRALIA
CARAVAN TRIP 2007 The East Alligator River is approximately 160 kilometres long. After rising in the northern part of the Arnhem Land Plateau, it flows with tributary streams towards the northwest through magnificent canyons towards the Van Diemen Gulf which it meets at Point Farewell. The South Alligator River is also about 160 kilometres long. It rises north of Mount Stow also on the Arnhem Land plateau. It flows northwesterly in a valley containing a number of disused uranium mines developed between 1955 and 1965. It also finishes in the Van Diemen Gulf of the Timor Sea. The West Alligator River rises in the lowlands and is 80 kilometres long. The Wildman River also flows in the region. The river system has a number of spectacular waterfalls including the Jim Jim Falls on Jim Jim Creek and the Twin Falls on Twin Falls Creek. The rivers have created the alluvial plains including the mangrove swamp in the past 20,000 years. [edit] Climate Waterfall - Kakadu National Park after rainLike much of northern Australia, the Alligator Rivers region has a monsoon climate. The dry season lasts between May and September while the wet season lasts between November and March. April and October are transitional periods between the two months. Annual rainfall at Jabiru is approximately 1540 mm with almost all of it falling during the wet season. During the wet season, the prevailing winds are westerly to north-westerly while they are easterly to south-easterly during the dry season. The three Alligator Rivers are perennial rivers flowing even during the dry season as is the Wildman River. All of the tributaries dry up in places during that period. The land dries out, and the wildlife concentrates around the permanent water sources such as the rivers, springs, waterholes and billabongs. The duration of the dry period depends on the rainfall during the wet season. In a normal year, the tributaries will start flowing around the middle of December and finish at the end of June, but the flow will start in November and finish in August if the rainfall has been particularly heavy. During the wet season, the savanna turns green, the wildlife spreads out, the bird life returns and the streams flood into adjacent lands turning them into swamps. The flood plains leave behind silt when they gradually dry up during the wet season. WIKIPEDIA

Kakadu Kakadon't: why you should take an organised tour
Kakadu is an amazing place. Yet some people say Kakadon't. If you want to get the best out of your Kakadu experience you should consider doing an organised tour. Theresa did and she loved it.

Rona Hello and welcome to Rona's Roadshow. With me today I've got the wonderful Terese.
Terese How're you going Rona
Rona Terese is an old mate of mine and she came up to Darwin and I was terribly excited. We went for lunch and I said to Terese, oh you must be going to Kakadu
Terese Right and unfotunately my husband said well it's not Kakadu it's KakaDon't. That's what he told me. And so what Rona said is, “Well, no youre not doing that. Youre going to come with me to Kakadu”, and that's what happened.
Rona Ross had been through and obviously seen what he'd seen and he'd got a bit of a idea about it that was not so positive unfortunately. I was doing tours at the time and I managed to get a 1 day tour for Terese.
Terese We went out and It was fabulous, just the one day out of Darwin. The stories that Rona told me were absolutely fantastic because they gave you an insight into the place that I hadn't heard of at all, I didn't know much about it.
Rona That's true. What people don't realise is the fantastic model up there where all guides have to learn and do a course to do that. That course is actually put together under the auspices of the controlling group, which is predominantly traditional local Aboriginal people.
Terese Fantastic, when you get into the park the thing I was quite impressed with is that we've got rangers who are of the communities there and running the tours on the river, the one that we went on...just fantastic.
Rona And there is a lot of wildlife there and I think some people actually drive out to Kakadu and they see… I wonder Terese...
Terese They don't actually find out these little spots
Rona Absolutely, and so a good little thing is to always keep a little money in your pocket and do that side trip if you do drive out.
Terese could go back now she could take Ross and he would have a totally different experience.
Terese Correct that is right. It is about that guided tour. Because otherwise you would not absorb all
the information that you were able to share with us. The rock painting and the expansiveness of .
have never seen rock painting like this. Just quite expansive in terms of the coverage of the rocks that you had there, the detail
and everything was just again, magnificant to behold.
Rona And the benefits of going on a tour?
Terese I think for me I certainly recommend that because
I actually went and um...you can do your own research usually before you go...but I don't think you actually get those stories, the insight into the place, unless you do the tour
guide. So for me I was grateful that you encouraged me to go on that day.
Rona That's right. And it wasn't that expensive was it? For what we got...
Terese No.
Rona I am a little biased because i am a tour guide, but i will go on tours now.
Terese Certainly this one, in terms of the knowledge that you gave was well worth the cost. And it wasn't, I dont think it was excessive at all.
Rona Not when you consider that if you get a hire
car and you hit anything, and the excess on that
Terese That’s right. And it was actually, it wasn't one of those big huge buses that you had
Rona No we had a Coaster.
Terese That's a more...a greater...more intimate way of travelling as well
Rona Exactly exactly... So what are we thinking of ...what's a little reminder to anyone watching...something to think about?
Terese Right when you are sitting around the table, maybe share some stories of the travels that you've had with each othet. That might just keep you travelling so to speak.
Rona Absolutely.
Terese To the next adventure.
Rona Onto the next adventure eh Terese.
Terese Yes that;s right.
Rona Alright, thank you very much and goodbye from Rona's Roadshow. Thanks for joining us. Bye bye.
Please like share and subscribe. Uploads every weekend and bonus videos mid week. :)
