Standing at 885 meters above sea level, Gunung Datuk is considered one of the highest peak in Negeri Sembilan. Located around 100km from the Kuala Lumpur, this mountain goes by many names and spellings. On road signs, it is sometimes spelled as Gunung Dato' or Datok. Some even call it Gunung Rembau, as it is situated in the town of Rembau.
I would consider this as a moderate hike, ranging from around 1.5 hours to 2 hours of uphill for hikers. However, every sweat and torn muscle climbing the mountain is well-worth the effort as you will be rewarded with breathtaking view and a cooling breeze atop. On a very clear day, you will also be lucky enough to see the Straits of Malacca.
Being a moderate level hike, this mountain is recommended to all levels of hikers, be it training or just to enjoy the majestic view on the summit. Though it's only one way up and down and registration is required before ascending, it's always better to follow someone with experience or at least someone who hiked this before.

HIKING MALAYSIA: Gunung Datuk sunrise and traditional Malay food in Malacca
While Gunung Datuk in Malaysia may not be high (855m) it does offer a spectacular sunrise and superb views over the peninsular and Straits of Malacca. The Trail
The Gunung Datuk trail is like many other Malaysian paths as it features a lot of tree roots and orange, clay-like soil.
From the trailhead hut to the summit is only around 2.5km, but there is one extremely steep section around 30 minutes in that requires some scrambling and rope work.
The trail levels out afterwards and after around 2 hours you should reach a large rest area below the rocky summit from where everyone likes to watch the sunrise.
Scaffolding has been erected to enable hikers to climb up the rocks replacing ladders and ropes that were there previously.
The boulders top out at 710m but the official height of Datuk is 855m and there is another higher summit although not many venture that way.
Travel Logistics
Datuk is around a 4-hour drive from Singapore once across the border or a 1-hour drive south from Kuala Lumpur.
Getting there by public transport is possible, taxis will drop you off at the trailhead from the nearby towns of Tampin or Rembau.
A climbing permit (5 Ringgit) is required for Datuk and this can be purchased at the trailhead office. If you climb early the office will be closed, but you can buy it on the way down.

GUNUNG BEREMBUN AND TELAPAK BURUK HIKE, Negeri Sembilan MALAYSIA
Gunung Berembun with the height of 1014 meter located in Kampung Pantai Baharu - Negeri Sembilan. Many people confuse with the name of Gunung Berembun as there are three different mountains with the same name located in near Jelebu (Negeri Sembilan), Cameron Highlands (Pahang) and Dungun (Terengganu).
The peaks of the range extend on a north-south axis and form the border between Seremban (formerly Sungai Ujong) and Kuala Pilah districts. In the north end is Gunung Telapak Buruk, which at 1093m is the highest peak in the range.
There are several aspects that make Berembun a very interesting trek. Firstly, the entire Berembun range is a protected primary forest reserve which is a very rare thing in Malaysia as most forests are secondary forests which have either been selectively logged or completely cleared and re-planted. As such, the visitor will be entertained with sights of enormous trees, super-sized insects and a huge variety of birds. Indeed it’s a renowned place for bird watching given its accessibility from civilisation. Secondly, the mountain top is also the resting place of a World War II Royal Airforce bomber that crashed on a mission in 1945.
The remnants of the plane was discovered in 1996 by the Orang Asli and the remains of the crew recovered for proper burial. The crash site is along the mountain ridge connecting Gunung Berembun to Telapak Buruk (about half-way between them) and can be accessed from either end.

Mount Datuk is one of the favorite places for nature lovers and adventure seekers to do some exercise or relaxing during their weekend. It holds many treasures of the natural tropical rainforests. As you can see in the video, there's a formation of big rocks at the summit.

It took me almost 3 hour to climb up to the peak of Mount Datuk. The view are very mesmerizing. As you can see, the wind during that day is a bit windy and you can see some of my footage a bit shaky. Anyway, enjoy the short footage of Mount Datuk peak.
