GUNWALLOE IN HISTORY
Gunwalloe parish church dates from the 15th century but a Norman font remains demonstrating that there was a church on the site prior to the current one. The church is tucked into the cliffside. Its tower is believed to be older than the main building, possibly dating from the 1200s.
Close to the church is the site of what was a tremendously important manor at the time of the Domesday Book in 1086. Winnianton Manor gave its name to the whole hundred of Kerrier. The Manor of Winnianton was held by King William I. Today, for comparison, this area roughly equates to the whole area covered by Kerrier District Council.
Gunwalloe was formerly owned by the Penrose family of the Helston area and the village formed part of their extensive estate.
Gunwalloe is well associated with tales of smuggling and shipwrecks including in 1526 the St Anthony carrying gold and silver belonging to the King of Portugal and in 1779 the wreck of the Dutch vessel Slando Welvern carrying wine. This coastline is littered with wrecked ships many of which date from the 1700s and some of which were laden with treasures.

Kayak Trip - Church Cove to Gunwalloe - Cornwall UK
Beautiful kayak trip on a evening paddle with a tricky start, leaving the beach at Church Cove was also difficult but I did not have my camera on for that. Spotted a couple of mackerel shoals on this trip, water was very clear.
All on my Wilderness systems Tarpon 120, filmed with GoPro3 hero black edition and Lumix FT20.
Gunwalloe may be said to be the first entry in the Domesday Book as the King's manor of Winnianton is the first entry for Cornwall. At the time of Domesday it was of great importance and the head manor in the hundred of Kerrier. The parish church was originally a manorial church of this manor but in the 13th century it became a chapelry of Breage. The church of Saint Winwaloe was rebuilt in the 14th to 15th century but the tower (a separate older building which belonged to the earlier church) is perhaps 13th century.
In Domesday Book there were in Winnianton 15 hides, land for 60 ploughs; the lord (King William) had 2 ploughs; 24 villagers, 41 freedmen, 33 smallholders, 14 serfs; half a sq league of woodland; 6 acres of meadow; 8 sq leagues of pasture; three kinds of livestock, in total 145 beasts. 11 of the hides are held by the Count of Mortain and there is more arable and pasture and 13 more persons are recorded.

Cornwall UK. A trove of coves. Mullion cove and Polurrian cove beach
Simply Cornwall - Mullion cove and Polurrian cove beach are located on the west coast of the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall UK. Even now Mullion cove has an active yet very small fishing industry but relies heavily on tourism these days. Polurrian cove beach was for many years a private beach belonging to the Polurrian bay hotel which is situated on the land above the beach. The pathway down to the beach is a little steep and uneven so might not be suitable for everybody.
There are some still photos from the day at the end of the video.

Church Cove, Gunwalloe
Church Cove is a beach at Gunwalloe in Cornwall with a church that was used in Poldark as the filming location of Doctor Enys' and Caroline's wedding and Doc Martin as the outside of the church of Aunt Joan's funeral. Both the church and the beach have also been used in Wycliffe a number of times.
Gunwalloe 2nd cove
This video is of the second beach at Gunwalloe, on the Lizard Peninsular, Cornwall, UK. This beach is down the track to Church cove and is a dog friendly beach but it is also very stony. I don't think Gunwalloe 2nd Cove is the official name for this beach, if anyone knows the official name please leave it in the comments.
