Jammu Uttar Behani Ancient Temples | India
The imposing rock temples of Purmandal nestle in the Shiwalik range and are visible from a great distance. Maharaja Ranbir Singh, known for his patronage of art and learning, had planned to create a unique centre of pilgrimage. He named different spots between Purmandal and Uttar Behani, about 6½-km away, along the Subteranean Dewak River, after the different Teerthas (also spelt as Tirth or Tirthas) of the country.
He started a grandiose project to build a stately shrine at each of these spots. Only a few were completed before he died and his ambitious dream Purmandal ended with him. The ruins of the half finished temples and the material that was collected for the construction are still scattered around the wilderness nearby.

Vasuki Naag Temple Bhaderwah
Bhaderwah (Jammu and Kashmir) also know as the lesser-known Himalayas is an unexplored and untouched valley in the foothills of the Himalayas, an amalgamation of peace, devotion, adventure, thrill, purity and virginal beauty where you can discover yourself and listen to your own calling.
You are looking at the idols of Nagraj Vasuki and Raja Jamute Vahan. As the title ‘Nagraj’ suggests, Lord Vasuki is believed to be the king of all the snakes. Ever wondered who is the snake coiled around Lord Shiva’s neck? Yes, that’s Nagraj Vasuki. He is also the son of Kashyapa and Kadru.
The six feet tall idols are made of black stone, standing at an angle of 87° without any support. The fact that it has survived natural calamities like earthquakes and is still standing tall at such an angle without any support makes it a wonder. It is a ritual to start Bhaderwali Kailash Yatra after the mandatory pujan held at this temple.
