About Penang Food - Gurney Drive Hawker Centre
========================================
Gurney Drive Hawker Centre is also known as Pusat Penjaja Anjung Gurney. It is one of the biggest and most famous places to eat in Penang. There were plenty of food stalls along both sides of the market. And the center is filled with tables and seats for dining.
Is the food there really good? Or maybe just a few stalls that have delicious local fare? Find out in this video. Also, read my review (link below). Do it before you visit Penang.

Info:
Gurney Wharf also known as Park On the Sea.
Gurney Wharf is the planned waterfront in Gurney Drive Penang with total 60 acres of reclaimed land at Teluk Ayer Rajah, Gurney. This area will have a seaside Food & Beverage precinct, water gardens, a 400-meter sandy beach and coastal groves.
This massive development will be carried out in two phases, the first phase comprising the public park, The second phase will involve the construction of the F & B precinct.
There is no high rise buildings along the coast line. Instead, there will be a wide open greenery for the public to enjoy.
The materialization of this development will be a major plus point for the real estate lining Gurney Drive, as their sea-view will not be blocked, but enhanced by the wider shorefront.

Penang 2017 Ep3: Dinner Time! Gurney Drive Penang
Thanks for following our Penang trip so far. I hope you have enjoyed watching my videos as much as I have enjoyed making them!
So Episode 3 brings us to Gurney Drive. It is a hawker centre where tourists and locals alike come for food. I like that they have divided the sections for halal and non-halal. I mean, it is really nice to see all races in the same place and enjoying what Malaysians do best, EATING!
I heard that this place gets super crowded during the weekends. We were there on a Wednesday :) So after a much-deserved cool off at the pool after the crazy street art hunt, we showered and walked about 10mins towards Gurney Drive.
This is the first time for the Boo and I to explore Penang together. We have last visited Penang in 2008 (me) and 2001 (Harris). So, a lot of things seem new to us. The one-way street. The malls. The hawker areas.
But thanks to #googlemap, the world is in your hands. We decide, they navigate.
So after walking and browsing through all the stalls that were there, we have decided to order Pasembur, Sotong Kangkung and Ikan Pari Bakar Pedas. THEY WERE ALL SOOOOOOO GOOD!
Let me do a small little explanation of each type of food sold there:
Pasembur:

Char Kuey Teow:

Asam Laksa:
Springy white noodle boiled and then topped up with tuna-based chili soup, served together with pineapple cubes and chopped up onions
Lor Mee:
Ikan Pari Bakar Pedas:
Barbequed stingray topped with spicy chili dressing, served with calamansi and ladies fingers
Sotong Bakar:
Barbequed dried squid
Sotong Kangkung:
Boiled squid served on a bed of green vege, spicy dark soya sauce and topped with peanuts
Dumplings (sui gao):
Boiled little flour pockets, normally filled with meat
Fried Tau Kua:
Fried tofu cube
Cucur Udang:
Prawn fritters

Siput Duri:
A type of sharp shelled snail, boiled and served with chilli sauce
Prawn Mee:
Noodles served in prawn-based curry, normally served with boiled egg, bean sprouts and fish cakes (and sometimes cockles too)

Staying on Gurney Drive | Penang Beachfront | More Magnum Icecreams!
Today we had to move from our Maritime Suite to another apartment called 'Sunrise on Gurney' which is located on the esplanade side of Penang on Gurney Drive.
We visited Gurney Plaza for more Magnum icecreams and a wander around the shops before heading to a restaurant called 'The Barn'. The salad in this restaurant was nice, but that's it...as the meals themselves were disgusting!
With lunch done and a bit of distance between us and the centre of Penang, we caught a grab for one last visit to Roti Bakar for the most delicious roti and then on to the Komtar shopping centre to purchase our bus tickets for the drive to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.
We finished our night with a swim and some really scrumptious BBQ chicken and rice from a hawker centre directly opposite our motel.

On the first day, we had dinner at the famous Penang Street food, Gurney Drive! They have the best selection of all the Penang hawker food from char kuey teow to pasembor.
