Dattatreya Temple in Ganagapur town of Afzalpur taluk is where people bring their friends/relatives who, they believe, are possessed by evil spirits. People believe that on full moon and no moon days, the demons are exorcised with the blessings of Sri Narasimha Saraswati (who is believed to be incarnation of Lord Dattatreya). The belief draws many people to the temple with a hope that their problems will be cured.

On these days, the process of Maha Mangalaratri starts at around 11.30 am. Those “possessed” by evil spirits start yelling, howling, screaming and making different kind of loud, confused noises. Some start weeping. Some start rolling on the ground. Some “possessed” people even climb to the poles on a platform that the temple authorities have built. Commotion prevails. Then the “affected persons” collapse at the entrance of the temple in a semi-conscious state. It takes around 15-20 minutes for them to get back to their normal state.

Sri Dattatreya Temple Ganagapura

Ganagapur is a village in Karnataka, India. It is located in the Afzalpur taluk of Gulbarga district in Karnataka.
Ganagapura is a kshetra (place of pilgrimage) associated with Sri Narasimha Saraswati Swami, the second incarnation of Dattatreya. According to the book Shri GuruCharitra, he promised that he would abide forever at Ganagapura. In the morning, he would bath at the confluence of the Bhima and Amarja rivers. At midday, he would go through the village asking for bhiksha (alms of food), and accept pooja offerings in the form of paduka (sandals) at the temple. Devotees believe that by bathing at the confluence, by begging (maadhukari) at least five houses in Ganagapura, and by offering Paduka Pooja at the temple, they can experience the living presence (darśana) of Sri Narasimha Saraswati Swami, and be freed from sins and granted wishes. Sangam Kshetra is a meeting point of Bhima and Amarja rivers. The water of these rivers, especially at their confluence, called Sangam, are considered extremely holy. Those who bath in Sangam will be freed from their sins, and their wishes will be fulfilled. There is a temple in Sangam in which the Shree Narasimha Saraswati Swamy performed the Anusthana. The `Shella Padukas' of Swamy are here. The Audumbar tree is situated near Sangam. Many devotees do the Shree Gurucharitra parayana (reading of Shree Gurucharitra) there.
History of Audumbar tree at Sangam Kshetra:-
A person named Narahari was cured of leprosy by Shree Guru Narasimha Saraswati Swamy. Narahari bowed to Shreeguru and began to pray him at that time. The 8 sloka stotra composed by Narahari became famous, and are recited in the temple at night to this day. Each sloka ends with “Vandayaami Naarasimha Saraswatheesha Paahimaam”. The stotra is now familiar as Narasimha Saraswati Ashtaka. Shreeguru blessed Narahari, and said that whoever recites the sloka every day with full devotion will get ashta aishwarya, spiritual power, wealth, fame and noble offspring.

Parrots are not just agreeable birds with their chirping sounds and attractive, vivid colors. Parrots have a specific spiritual connection with the nine planets (Navagrahas), the twelve zodiac signs (Rasis related to birth stars), the numerals of the dates in each month, and the seven musical notes Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, Ni (Saptaswaras) in Indian classical music.

History:
The temple is believed to come into existence when Vishnu killed Hiranyakashyap, slew another giant named Jharasura. While breathing his last, Jharasura requested Vishnu to reside in the cave in which he was living and to grant boons to devotees. Granting last wish of his, Narasimha came to live in the cave and hence the name.
This water cave temple virtually runs into a cave with water measuring 300 meters.The temple is a powerful deity of Lord Narasimha as per the belief where one has to wade through water up to chest height to have darshan of the idol. It's a thrilling experience to travel through the cave as there is natural water within it. The bats and owls sitting on the roof top of cave are harmless to the devotees. The place is surrounded by picturesque valley.

Narayanpur is a small village located in Purandhar valley in Pune district, Maharashtra, India. It is located about 35km southerly to Pune city. One can reach Narayanpur from Pune either from Dive ghat and Saswad or from Katraj Ghat and Mumbai-Pune-Satara Road. Narayanpur is situated at the bottom of famous Purandar fort. Lord Indra's second name is Purandar. This place became sacred because Indra made austerity on a nearby mountain, hence the name Purandhar valley. Narayanpur is a famous place in Pune region. Narayanpur is famous for their Lord Ek Mukhi Datta. Usually lord Datta has 3 faces but in Narayanpur there is Ek Mukhi Datta. The statue of Lord Ek Mukhi Datta is very beautiful. The idol of Lord Dattatreya here in the sanctum is different from the idols that we see otherwise. You can also see the Padukas i.e. footwear of Lord Datta here. These were placed in the sanctum by Lord Datta himself before he left for Samadhi. Many devotees comes to Narayanpur on the eve of Guruvar and Pournima. The number goes in lacs on the occasion of Datta Jayanti. Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple in Pune is dedicated to the Hindu God Ganesh. The temple is popular in Maharashtra and is visited by thousands of pilgrims every year. Devotees of the temple include celebrities and Chief Ministers of Maharashtra who visit during the annual ten-day Ganeshotsav festival. The main Ganesh idol is insured for sum of ₹10 million.

Dagadusheth Halwai (Dagadusheth Gadve) was Lingayat trader and Sweet maker (Halwai in Marathi). He originally came from Karnataka and settled in Pune. After he gained fame as a Halwai, that became his surname. His original Halwai shop still exists under the name Kaka Halwai near Datta Mandir in Pune.

Mr. Dagdusheth Halwai was a successful sweetmeat seller and a rich businessman. In late 1800s, he lost his son in a plague epidemic. This caused Dagdusheth and his wife to go into deep depression. To heal themselves, their Guru, Shri Madhavnath Maharaj recommended building a Ganesh temple. This was completed in 1893.

Lokmanya Tilak, the Indian Nationalist leader and a contemporary of Dagdusheth, was a close friend of him. Tilak saw his dedication and also the construction of the temple and it was here that the idea of celebrating public Ganesh festival struck him. It proved to be an epoch making event in Indian history.
