Gurudogmar Lake, is one of the highest lakes in the world, located at an altitude of 17,800 ft (5,430 m) in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is a lake which is considered sacred by both Buddhists and Sikhs.The lake is named after Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, founder of Tibetan Buddhism who visited the lake in the 8th century.

The high altitude lake which remains frozen during winter months is located in the region of northern Sikkim, in the district of North Sikkim. It is about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) to the south of the Chinese border. The lake can be reached by road from Lachen via Thangu. It is 190 kilometres (120 mi) away from Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim.

This is third video from my Point of view Sikkim Series. In this video, I will be traveling to a frozen lake located at 18,500 feet above the sea level. Shri Gurudongmar Lake
This series is about my recent trip to Sikkim. It was a week long trip and I had covered Gangtok, Lachen, Shri Gurudongmar Lake, Lachung, Katao Valley and Yumthang Valley. I will be covering all the mentioned places in a 4 part series.

Sikkim : Sikkim is a state in northeast India, bordered by Bhutan, Tibet and Nepal. Part of the Himalayas, the area has a dramatic landscape that includes India’s highest mountain, 8,586m Kangchenjunga. Sikkim is also home to glaciers, alpine meadows and thousands of varieties of wildflowers. Steep paths lead to hilltop Buddhist monasteries such as Pemayangtse, which dates to the early 1700s.

Point Of view : This is a web series where I will try to cover different places in India and express my views about the place followed up with suggestions and recommendations and the view of the places from my camera :)

Here is my version of visiting Gurudongmar Lake. I opted for the shared cab option. there are also private cab option available which would cost you somenting around INR 25000.

This particular package that we opted for provided us with all meals and two night stay at lachen and Lachung, and costed us INR 4000 each ( the rates depends on the season and dates).

Overall, I am really impressed with this package. No Complains about about the place it is breath taking. One of the best places I have ever been to.

So around 6am we started from Lachen to Beautiful Gurudongmar Lake.
I had few breathing issues because of the obvious reasons that i had told in the vlog. Also couldn't fly drone as the entire route is a hub of many army camps

Named my Sikkim Series as Kahani Sikkim Ki
Sikkim Trip was basically a road trip and we explored the following places on our trip:

Gurudongmar Lake in North Sikkim India is one of the highest lakes in the world and highest lakes in India. This lake is situated at 17800 ft or 5430m. Gurudongmar lake is at 190 kms North of Sikkim and 67 kms from Lachen. The lake remains frozn during winter. There is no vegitation and there is less oxygen in the air. So you may experience headache and nausea. Drinking warm water may help you feel better. This video os Gurudongmar lake was captured during last week of November 2017.
To reach Gurudongmar Lake you have to reach Lachen first. Stay overnight at Lachen. Start very early in the morning from Lachen to Gurudongmar Lake. The temperature is very low at Gurudongmar Lake and you must take enough protection for cold.

Gurudongmar Lake : A Lifetime Experience : Sikkim March 2018

Gurudongmar Lake is a must visit place if you are travelling to Sikkim.

It is one of the highest lakes in the world and in India, located at an altitude of 17,800 ft (5,430 m), in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is considered sacred by Buddhists, Sikhs and Hindus.

The nearest tourist accommodation is at Lachen which is about is 68 km (3-4 hours) away.

Start your tour to Gurudongmar early in the morning at around 6am and be back to Lachen latest by lunch time. As the day progresses weather in the high altitude begins to worsens.

Caution: Might get breathing problem due to high altitude so it is advised to spend less time (half an hour)at the high altitude and come down to Lachen soon.
Wear wooden clothes to keep you warm as the weather is quite chilly over there.

Gurudongmar lake- Sikkim

Gurudongmar Lake or Gurudogmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world, located at an altitude of 17,100 ft. It lies in the province of North Sikkim, India, only some 5 kilometres south of Chinese border.

This fresh-water lake is located northeast of the Kangchenjunga range in a high plateau area connected with the Tibetan Plateau.

Gurudongmar lake provides one of the source streams of the Teesta River. The source of Teesta, the Tso Lhamo Lake, lies some 5 km to the east. One can seek permission from the army to trek from Gurudongmar Lake to Tso Lhsmo Lake.

The lake remains completely frozen in the winter months from November to Mid-May.

Gurudongmar Lake, is one of the highest lakes in the world, located at an altitude of 17,800 ft in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is a lake which is considered sacred by both Buddhists and Sikhs.

The ride to Cholamu and Gurudongmar lake was done by me on my All india ride 29 states + Bhutan and Mayanmar.

Both the Cholamu and Gurudongmar lake visit was really mesmerising.

Gurudongmar Lake: The high altitude lake is located 190 kilometres (120 mi) away from Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim, and about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) south of the Tibetan (Chinese) border, in the district of North Sikkim. The lake can be reached by road from Lachen via Thangu. The road from Thangu to Gurudongmar passes through rugged terrain with moraine, which has high alpine pastures covered with many rhododendron trees.[4][1] While Indian tourists are allowed to visit the lake, foreigners need to get a special permit from the Ministry of Home Affairs in Delhi.

Solo Girl Travels To North Sikkim | Lachen, Lachung, Yumthang Valley and Gurudongmar Lake

This year I ticked-off another state of North-East India, Sikkim. Undoubtedly with its spell-binding beauty, this fully-organic state of India is overflowing with unresponsible tourism. We can bring change and harm nature a little less. Watch the video and decide for yourself. :)

Places visited:-
Lachen - A town in North Sikkim district, located at an elevation of 2,750 metres. Its name means big pass. The town forms the base to the Chopta Valley and Gurudongmar Lake.

Lachung - A mountain village close to the Tibetan border in North Sikkim. It's divided by the Lachung River. The village is home to the 19th-century Buddhist Lachung Monastery.

Yumthang Valley - a nature sanctuary with river, hot springs, yaks and grazing pasture on rolling meadows surrounded by the Himalayan mountains in the North Sikkim.

Gurudongmar Lake - one of the highest lakes in the world and in India, located at an altitude of 17,800 ft. It is considered sacred in some Indian religions.

P.S. My complaint with Sikkim is not about its natural beauty, its diversity and its kind & helpful people. My complaint is about travellers who flout the ethics of responsible travelling and about the tourism department of state that turns a blind eye to the oncoming destruction.

YOU please be a responsible inhabitant of the world and avoid ruining the natural (as well as city) landscapes.
