Gurudwara Sri Datun Sahib in Leh, Ladakh
In Leh City there is an ancient 'sacred' Datun tree, well known around the city as Datun (Miswak) Sahib, which many people believe is the biggest and oldest tree tree alive, which was actually planted by Guru Nanak Dev ji during his missionary travels or Udasis. Considered to be sacred by the city's residents, regardless of their religion, the tree was the first tree to grow in the area. At the time of the Guru's visit the high desert had no trees as only small shrubs and bushes would grow at the high, arid altitude. Today the Guru's sapling has grown to be the biggest tree in the city.
Thought to have been planted by Guru Nanak on his second missionary tour (UDasi 1515-18) the venerated tree is located in the city's main bazar at the rear of its main mosque. A small board relating the history of the Guru's visit and his planting of the young neem tree has been erected on a fence, which encircles the tree. Along with the fence and signboard a Nishan Sahib has been erected by the local Sikh Sangat (community). Though the sign states that the Gurdwara PraBandak Committee of Leh-Ladak is maintaining the site, the tree itself is in need of immediate maintenance as its condition is deteriorating daily.

Gurudwara Datun Sahib, Leh
Datun Sahib is the name of a tree in the main bazaar at Leh, Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Guru Nanak visited this site around 1516. There is no Gurudwara at the site, but the remains of a large meswak tree are located behind the Jamia Masjid in the main bazaar at Leh. The Datun Sahib is located close to the Leh Palace, on a lane which mainly houses bread makers.
Datun Sahib contains a nishan sahib and a tree wrapped with orange cloth. A yellow board in front of the tree refers to the visit of Rimpoche Nanak (Holy Nanak) around 1516. Guru Nanak was revered by both Buddhists and Muslims. It is said that Leh was devoid of greenery at the time, but Nanak blessed the city with greenery by planting a meswak tree. This meswak tree is a reminder of the abiding message of Nanak, to spread greenery and harmony all around. There are two main Singh Sabha Gurudwaras located within a kilometer of the site.
Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Leh
Gurdwara Shri Pathar Sahib is situated on the Srinagar-Leh Road, 25kms before the Leh. It is very beautiful and it was created in memory of the founder of Sikh religion and the first guru , Guru Nanak Dev ji.
History : Guru Nanak Dev ji Reached here during the second journey (1515-1518 A.D.) in 1517 A.D. after giving his sermon on sumer hills, Guru Nanak Dev ji reached here through Yarkand after visiting Nepal, Sikkim and Tibet. In the opposite hill, there lived a cruel demon who use to terrify the people and eat them after killing. On hearing the plight of the grieved, Guru ji reached this place heaved a sigh of relief on seeing the Guru ji but the demon was very angry on seeing this and he hatched a plan a kill Guru ji. One day, when Guru ji was immersed deep in the worship of God, the demon took the opportunity and throw a huge stone (Pathar) on Guru ji so that Guru ji would die under the huge stone. But 'When the almighty protects, none can kill him' and at that time an unusual incident happened. As the huge stone touched Guju ji, it became like wax and Guru ji's body got struck in the wax but it did no effect the worship of Guru ji. The demon was pleased assuring that Guru ji was killed and came down near the stone. Seeing Guru ji alive, the demon was surprised and in a fit of rage, he kicked the stone with his right leg but the demon's leg also get struck in the wax. The, the demon realized that he in his foolishness had tried to kill a Lord's devotee and he fell at Guru ji's feet to apologize for this mistake. Guru ji opened his eyes and summoned the demon to live the rest of his life by serving the humanity and only then he will be benefited. The demon obliged the Guru ji's saying and lived peacefully thereafter. After some time, Guru ji went to Kashmir via kargil. You can have a glimpse of the holy stone inside Gurdwara Sri Pather Sahib.

During his lifetime Guru Nanak travelled to many distant places and one such place was Tibet. Guru Nanak is well respected by Tibetan Buddhists who consider him a saint; The Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of Buddhists in Tibet, has confirmed this in his discussions with some Sikh leaders saying that Tibetans revere Guru Nanak as a Buddhist saint under the name of Guru Gompka Maharaj.

GURUDWARA PATHER SAHIB LADAKH 25KMS FROM LEH ON LEH SRINAGAR HIGHWAY (GURU NANAK DEV JI)
There is a beautiful Gurudwara known as Pather Sahib constructed in the memory of Guru Nanak, about 25 miles away from Leh, on the Leh-Kargil road, 12000 ft above the sea level.
In the late 70s, during the construction of Leh-Nima road, a large stone was found in the middle. The bulldozer driver tried to push and throw away the stone but it did not move and in the process the blades broke and the work stopped. The driver had a dream that night not to move the stone. He narrated his dream to the army officer who did not give any importance to it. When all efforts to remove it failed it was decided to blow it with a dynamite the next day. That night the army officer also had a dream not to remove the stone but he again disregarded it. The next day being Sunday he noticed that early in the morning several Tibetans came and started showing reverence to the stone.
On enquiring further he was told that this was a Wax Statue of their revered Lama, Nanak and it contained the imnprints of his shoulders, head and backside.he was told that during the period 1515-1518 AD when Guru Nanak was returning back to Punjab through Srinagar, after travelling to Sikkim, Nepal and Tibet, he rested at this place. A woman came to him for help. It was her son that was to be sacrificed to a demon who lived on the hill. Guru Nanak consoled her and asked her not to send her son to the demon. The demon was infuriated and threw a large rock at the Guru which hit the back of the meditating Guru and stopped there. The Guru's body is believed to be imprinted on the rock. The demon felt ashamed and prostrated at the feet of Guru Nanak.
Nestled deep in the Himalayas, about 25 km from the town of Leh, is the Gurdwara, Pathar Sahib. The Gurdwara was built in 1517 to commemorate the visit of Guru Nanak Dev. It is believed that Guru Nanak Dev reached Leh via Sikkim, Nepal, Tibet and Yarkhand. The place is revered by both the local lamas and Sikh sangat. Currently the Army is looking after the gurdwara.
As per a legend, there lived a wicked demon who terrorised the people in the area where the gurdwara is situated. The people prayed to the Almighty for help. It is said that Guru Nanak heard their woes and came to their aid. He settled down on the bank of the river below the hill where the wicked demon lived. The Guru blessed the people with sermons and became popular in the area. The locals called him Nanak Lama. The demon got into rage and decided to kill Guru Nanak Dev.
One morning when the Guru was sitting in meditation, the demon rolled down a large pathar (boulder) from the hilltop, with the intention of killing the Guru. The boulder came rolling down and when it touched the Guru's body, it melted like wax. The Guru kept on meditating unhurt and undisturbed. Thinking that the Guru had been killed, the demon came down and was taken aback to see the Guru deep in meditation. In a fit of anger, he tried to push the boulder with his right foot, but as the pathar had already melted like wax, his foot got embedded in it. On seeing this, demon realised his own powerlessness as compared with the spiritual powers of the great Guru. He fell at the feet of Guru Nanak Dev and begged for forgiveness. Guru Sahib advised him to get rid of his wicked ways and asked him to lead a life of a noble person. This changed the life of the demon, who gave up evil deeds and started serving the people.
Guru Nanak Dev thereafter continued his holy journey towards Srinagar via Kargil. The pathar pushed down by the demon, with the imprint of the body of Guru Nanak Dev as also the foot imprint of the demon, is at present lying in Gurdwara Pathar Sahib. It is said that since the visit of Guru Sahib (in 1517) to 1965, the local lamas held pathar sacred and offered prayers to it.
To visit the gurdwara, one can take, a flight to Leh from New Delhi and stay in a hotel at Leh. As Leh is located at a high altitude, one can have breathing problems due to the paucity of oxygen. Visitors are advised to consult their doctors before embarking on this journey. The 25-km road from Leh to the Gurdwara Pathar Sahib is in good condition. Visitors can go by bus or taxi. The Gurdwara Sahib is located next to the road.
