Gustaf Vasa Church (Gustaf Vasa Kyrka) - Stockholm, Sweden
Gustaf Vasa Church is located in the Vasastaden district of Stockholm, Sweden. Inaugurated in 1906 and named after 16th century King Gustav Vasa, it was designed by architect Agi Lindegren in the Baroque Revival style. The altarpiece was designed and built by Burchard Precht in his workshop between 1728 and 1731. It is Sweden's largest sculptural work in the Baroque style. Stored away at the Skansen museum for several years, it finally ended up at the Gustaf Vasa Church in 1906. The interior of the dome was painted by Viktor Andren, and features an interpretation of the Transfiguration of Jesus. The church also has several other frescoes done by the same artist, depicting the Four Evangelists, the Baptism, the Last Supper, the Gospel and the Decalogue.

Historical background (Source Wikipedia)
Carl Milles; (23 June 1875 – 19 September 1955) was a Swedish sculptor. He was married to artist Olga Milles and brother to Ruth Milles and half brother to the architect Evert Milles. Carl Milles sculpted the Gustaf Vasa statue at the Stockholm Nordic Museum, the Poseidon statue in Gothenburg, the Orpheus group outside the Stockholm Concert Hall, and the Fountain of Faith in Falls Church, Virginia. His home near Stockholm, Millesgården, became his resting place and is now a museum.
Milles (June 23, 1875 – September 19, 1955) was born Carl Wilhelm Andersson, son of lieutenant Emil Mille Andersson and his wife Walborg Tisell, at Lagga outside Uppsala in 1875. In 1897 he made what he thought would be a temporary stop in Paris on his way to Chile, where he was due to manage a school of gymnastics. However, he remained in Paris, where he studied art, working in Auguste Rodin's studio and slowly gaining recognition as a sculptor. In 1904 he and Olga moved to Munich.
Two years later they settled in Sweden, buying property on Herserud Cliff on Lidingö, a large island near Stockholm. Millesgården was built there between 1906 and 1908 as the sculptor's private residence and workspace. It was turned into a foundation and donated to the Swedish people in 1936.
In 1931, American publisher George Gough Booth brought Milles to Cranbrook Educational Community, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, to serve as his sculptor in residence. Part of Booth's arrangement with his principal artists was that they were expected to create major commissions outside the Cranbrook environment.
Sculpture at Fort Christina
In 1938, for the 300th anniversary of the founding of New Sweden, the country commissioned a sculpture by Milles featuring a replica of the Kalmar Nyckel, the ship which originally brought the Swedish colonists to America. The sculpture is located at Fort Christina in Wilmington, Delaware, near the landing site where the colonists arrived in 1638.
In America he is best known for his fountains. Milles's fountain group The Wedding of the Waters in St. Louis symbolizes the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers merging just upstream. Commissioned in 1936 and unveiled in May 1940 to a crowd of about 3000 people, the fountain caused a local uproar because of its playful, irreverent, naked, and nearly cartoonish figures, and because Milles had conceived the group as a wedding party. Local officials insisted that the name be changed to The Meeting of the Waters.
Outside Detroit's Frank Murphy Hall of Justice is a Carl Milles statue, The Hand of God, which was sculpted in honor of Frank Murphy, Detroit Mayor, Michigan Governor, and United States Supreme Court Associate Justice. The statue was placed on a pedestal with the help of sculptor Marshall Fredericks. The statue was commissioned by the United Automobile Workers, and paid for by individual donations from UAW members. The Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research, an annual award for research on entrepreneurship, consists of a replica statuette of The Hand of God and a prize of 100,000 euros.
Milles Indian head
Photographs of his sculptures, taken for a monograph on Milles, are now held in the Carl Milles Photograph Collection, c. 1938–1939, in the Ryerson & Burnham Libraries at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Milles and his wife returned to Sweden in 1951, and lived in Millesgården every summer until Milles's death in 1955. They spent winters in Rome, where the American Academy had supplied them with a studio. Milles and his wife, Olga, who died in 1967 in Graz, Austria, are buried in a small stone chapel, designed by Milles, at Millesgården. Because Swedish law requires burial on sacred ground, it took the assistance of the then reigning Gustaf VI Adolf to allow this resting place.

Kongefamilien under andre verdenskrig»

The Halden Reactor became operative in 1958. Its current operating license expires at the end of 2014.[4] Authorities are considering whether to extend the operating license beyond 2014. In May 2014, the Norwegian Radiological Protection Authority recommended a ten-year license extension.
Report to police by Norway's foreign ministry
A 12 May 2013 article in O Estado de S. On 4 September 2013, Norwegian media wrote that the institute is admitting to illegal cooperation with companies in four more countries:[7] Russia, Argentina, France and the United States. Later, Norway's foreign ministry filed a complaint with PST.[7] triggering an investigation that is on-going.

Gothenburg Travel Guide - Sweden Attractive Experience
Gothenburg (Swedish: Göteborg, pronounced Yeutebory) is the second largest city in Sweden with approximately 500,000 inhabitants (2008) in the municipality. It is situated on Sweden's west coast at the outlet of the Göta river. With over 40,000 students Gothenburg University is the largest in Scandinavia. Gothenburg has a reputation of being a friendly place, even more welcoming than the Swedish capital.
With neighboring provinces Halland and Bohuslän under Danish rule, the Göta River used to be Sweden's only western port, since the 14th century guarded by a fort named Älvsborg. The city of Gothenburg was founded in 1621 by King Gustav II Adolf, during the height of the Swedish Empire. It was once the center of the Swedish ship-building industry, but with rising competition from foreign ship yards, many of the dry docks closed down during the late 20th century. Much of the inner harbor area has changed from industrial ship building to high technology and education, representative of the general change in the city. Today Gothenburg has both international sporting events, concerts, and conventions as well as a small town feel. An industrial town, Gothenburg has been a stronghold of the Social Democratic Party.
Public transportation within Gothenburg (and the west of Sweden) is operated by Västtrafik and consists of trams, buses and ferries. Gothenburg has a famous network of trams that covers most of the city. With over 150 km the Gothenburg tram is the largest light rail network in Scandinavia. Tram and stombuss (trunk bus lines) are the most efficient way to travel within the city centre, but if you're planning to go further you might need to go by bus. Bus lines heading in the same direction often departs from the same part of the city. Two ferry services run across the river; Älvsnabben is the regular ferry service with traffic every thirty minutes, and Älvsnabbare that only run between Rosenlund and Lindholmspiren (free of charge) during work hours.
The main restaurant street in Gothenburg is Linnégatan running from Järntorget to Linnéplatsen. It has a high concentration of good restaurants of all kinds in the low to moderate price range. Most restaurants offer lunch menus ranging 60-80 SEK, mostly they are served between 11:30 and 14:00. Gothenburg has a vast array of cafés practically everywhere. In the district Haga (near Järntorget) you can find a lot of nice cafés. Try the big Kanelbulle (Cinnamon bun). But be quick, usually they are sold out around 4 or 5 pm.
Gothenburg has several parks and nature reserves ranging in size from tens of square metres to hundreds of hectares. It also has many green areas that are not designated as parks or reserves. The sea, trade, and industrial history of the city is evident in the cultural life of Gothenburg. It is also a popular destination for tourists on the Swedish west coast.

Carving a Lion Head from the Royal warship Vasa
The carving in this video is a copy of the majestic lionheads on the gun ports of the Swedish royal warship Vasa that was built in 1628 commissioned by the king Gustav II Adolf.
The lion head is carved in real size (1:1) and is approximately 50 cm high, it is carved in Lime wood and then placed on a back piece made out of Oak.
First I started out by making a half of the head in clay, to get an idea of the thickness and the diffrent levels of the head before starting to carve to avoid unpleasant surprises along the way. The pictures that I had to my disposal was not so clear in all the details that I had to make the model to figure out all the features. I also made a quick visit to the Vasa museum to cross check my clay model with the original before starting to carve.
The piece is then composed of a back layer, as thick as the mane , and the actual head ontop glued together. I used a bandsaw to cut the outer contours of the lion to make the carving process easyer. The carving was then made by the means of the pictures and the clay model.
The gun port itself was made out of oak (not as thick as the original though) and both the head and the port was distressed to get the surface of an item that has been on the bottom of the sea for 300 years and then colored in the same manner as the original pieces appears today at the Vasa museum.

The Islands and Canals of Stockholm
Standing across one of the many canals from the old city of Gamla Stan, I show you the many views of the central island and city square, some of the museums, and a giant statue of a Swedish hero, Gustav VI Adolf.
Then, my colleague Adrian helps me out in telling the tale of the failure of a warship, the great Vasa. :)

Kingdoms of the North: the new generation (2/2) - Danish
A real princess. They are young and beautiful but apart from that, looks like they are almost common people. But they're not. They are the heirs to the thrones of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, and their dilemma is almost inextricably: The young princes and princesses will also have to live a normal life - but how common must it be?
The issue is discussed a lot in the Nordic countries up to the Norwegian wedding between Crown Prince Haakon and the ordinary Mette-Marit. First broadcasted in 2001.

Rajabhakti Park med 7 Thailändska jätte kungastatyer. Giant Kings!
