Flying from Georgetown to Kaieteur National Park, Guyana
Michael and I, aboard a Trans Guyana Airways Cessna Caravan 208B from Georgetown’s Ogle Airport (OGL) to Kaieteur National Park (KAI), cruise in the clouds at 10,500 feet. We start our descent into KAI and the clouds part over the Guyanese jungle.

Michael and I, aboard a Trans Guyana Airways Cessna 208B Grand Caravan from Georgetown’s Ogle Airport (OGL) to Kaieteur National Park (KAI), fly over the Potaro River, six miles from Kaieteur Falls. We get a spectacular view of the world’s tallest single-drop waterfall before landing on Runway 7 at Kaieteur National Park airstrip after a flight time of 1:01.

This is the first in a series of travel logs that document my daughter and I traveling to Guyana in January 2018. We participated in an Overland walk to Kaieteur Falls conducted by Rainforest Tours. A trip to the Pomeroon River and a few days in Georgetown filled our itinerary.
This video covers our drive from the airport to Georgetown. In my opinion, driving in Georgetown is more dangerous than hiking the Kaieteur Gorge.

Trans Guyana Airways Charter Flight Departs Georgetown (OGL) for Kaieteur National Park (KAI)
Michael and I await the delayed departure of our Trans Guyana Airways charter flight from Georgetown’s Ogle Airport (OGL) to Kaieteur National Park (KAI), home of the world’s tallest single-drop waterfall, Kaieteur Falls. After a delay of 70 minutes due to poor weather at KAI, we board the Cessna Caravan 208B. I’m lucky enough to be seated in the co-pilot’s seat as we take off from OGL Runway 25L and fly along the Georgetown coastline and the west bank of the Demerara River.

This is video 2 of 2. In September of 2017 I took a taxi from the Georgetown Guyana Airport to the city. The cost is 5,000 Guyanese dollars or $25 USD. The taxi only took about 45 minutes. The airport code is GEO named Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

A stunning video has captured the immense beauty and raw power of the world’s largest single-drop waterfall - which only a few thousand people visit per year due to its remote location.
Sensational Kaieteur Falls, found in the Kaieteur National Park on the Potaro River in Guyana, sees some 30,000 gallons of water cascade down a sheer drop of about 750ft.
Estimates put the number of tourists who make the journey to see the falls themselves at under 4000 per year - compared to the city of Niagara Falls which welcomes 12m annually.
Most visitors take about a one hour flight from capital city Georgetown to an airstrip at the top of the falls - where protected parkland makes for spectacular scenes.
That was the route keen traveler Jeremy Weate, originally from Birmingham, UK but who now lives in Kenya, took while he was visiting the country for business.
