President Benigno S. Aquino III visited Romblon for the first time to conduct an aerial inspection of the Romblon-Sawang-Agpanabat provincial road and led the unveiling of the marker of the new buildings of the Romblon Provincial Hospital at the Romblon Public Theater.

President Aquino also commended Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Undersecretary Rey Marfil, who hails from Romblon, for promoting his hometown and in helping to meet the needs of its people. “Kaya nga po kung ang mga tulad niya ang magiging pinuno sa hinaharap, talagang hindi tayo magdududa sa kakayahan niyang isulong ang inyong kapakanan at ang kaunlaran ng inyo pong lalawigan o maski ang kalakhang Pilipinas,” the President said during his speech.
Accompanied by Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio Singson, Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas, Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Joseph Abaya, Health (DOH) Acting Secretary Janette Garin, and Oriental Mindoro 2nd District Congressman Rey Umali, the President arrived at the nation’s marble capital for the first time.

Banton the Majestic Island
Banton Island is an island in the province of Romblon in the Philippines. It has one municipality named Banton.
It is the most northerly island of the province. The island's area is approximately 2,820 hectares (excluding neighboring islands Bantoncillo, and the Dos Hermanas, Carlota and Isabel). It has a mountainous and rugged topography due to its volcanic origin. Thus, rice agriculture is difficult in the island, and the only chief industries are copra farming and fishing. Other crops include root crops, vegetables, and fruits. The locals also engage in livestock raising and small-scale shipbuilding.
The island is known for its white sand beaches such as Macat-ang, Tabunan, and Tambak beaches. There are also numerous caves, some of which contained remains of ancient settlers in the island. The highest elevation in the island is Mount Ampongo. The island also has well preserved coral reefs which are perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving such as the Northwest Wall and Times Square.
