Korea's Only Cave...Amusement Park? •• Gwangmyeong Cave Vlog 광명동굴
A great way to escape the Korean summer heat is to literally just go underground! Gwangmyeong Cave, located in suburban Seoul, is the country's first and only cave amusement park, and it actually has a ton to do!
Gwangmyeong Cave was originally a mine for gold, silver, and bronze, but was taken over and exploited by the Japanese during Japan's occupation of Korea. During the Korean War, the cave was actually used as a shelter for refugees, and a baby was even born underground. After the war, locals stored pickled shrimp within the cave, until it was decided that it could be put to better use.
In addition to the (very well organized) walking tour that goes down within and around the cave, there is a haunted house, an aquarium, Korea's largest statue of a dragon, a fantasy art exhibit, a restaurant, a cafe, a garden, and WINE TASTING!
I really respect the choice to turn a landmark with such a sad history into something that Koreans can reclaim as a happy place to be. There is a section dedicated to the real history of the mine, but the Korean people are very resilient, and I love that they would rather have an underground amusement park serving them and their children than just a reminder of wars past.
We had much more fun than we were expecting, and SUPER recommend this short Seoul day trip during the summer, to beat that heat and stay out of the strong sun!!

Gwangmyeong Cave - Seoul - South Korea - best and safe cave
Gwangmyeong Cave Theme Park
Gwangmyeong Cave is located in the center of the motropolitan area of Seoul, so it is easily reachable via public transportation. It only takes about 35 minutes by subway from Seoul station.
There are many geological feature and thematic areas set up in the cave. It offers variety experience programs, so the cave is great place to get close to nature.
1. Space of light & Wind road
As soon as you enter this space, you can feel chiily wind. And path is illuminated with colorful light. This is good place to take a nice picture.
2. Art stardium
In the middle of cave, there are wide screen and stage. You can watch performances and movie, there.
3. Aqua World
Aqua world has various underwater creatures. You can have unique experience seeting fishes while walking the cave.
4. Golden waterfall, Golden path, Goldene palace
You can explore golden world in the cave. Due to mineral, some part of the cave are covored with golden color. The higtlight of the tunnel is golden status of Aisha. Ancient legend has it that if you touch the pieces of gold coins sitting in her hand, you will be granted a properous and happy future. Therefre, there is usually a line of visitors in front of the statue hoping to see if the legend is true.
5. Wine Cave
It offers visitors a unique opportunity to take part in wine tasting, with 78 different varieties of quality wine across eight different Korean vineyards. Once you are done tasting, you can even purchase the wine you like to take home.

Gwangmyeong Cave Korea Tour 광명동굴????♂️
Gwangmyeong Cave was used for mining purposes under Japanese imperial rule(1910-1945).
Now the cave reopened for the TOUR!
According to an official web of Korean government, Only about 3,000 tourists visited Gwangmyeong-si in 2010
but 4 years later, that number had jumped 514 times, hitting 1.54 million.
The secret behind the surprising boosting number is the Gwangmyeong Cave, a forsaken gold mine that used to be full of waste and which has been transformed into a frequently-visited tourist attraction.
It's called the Miracle of the Abandoned Cave.
However, there is a more thing to be secret but you need to know is that Gwangmyeong Cave initially started to be developed as a golden mine. The total mineral deposit of the cave was estimated at 19,000 ton as of 1950 and only just 52kg of gold had been discovered until the mine closed down(1972).
In other words, there is still a large sum of gold buried inside the cave waiting to be discovered as many experts agree even at this time.

Scariest Haunted House in Korea [Gwangmyeong Cave] (광명동굴)
This is the scariest haunted house I've found in Korea!
I love haunted houses. Ever since my first haunted house date in the United States, I have always tried to look for a place that scared the s*** outta me. This was pretty darn good. If you have the chance to escape the summer heat and visit the Gwangmyeong caves, do this!
