Jaisalmer Fort is situated in the city of Jaisalmer, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is believed to be one of the very few living forts in the world, as nearly one fourth of the old city's population still resides within the fort. For the better part of its 800-year history, the fort was the city of Jaisalmer
Within the vicinity of The Jaisalmer fort lie 7 Jain temples which are an embodiment of beautiful structural designs. Right from ceilings to tombs to gateways, each and every part of this temple is decorated with mirrors, frescoes, carvings, etc. These temples were built way back in the12th and 15th century, and are dedicated to various Jain Tirthankars (Hermits). On the walls of the temples, you can find animal & human figures, carved in famous Dilwara temple style. The Jain temple has a Gyan Bhandar, a library, which interest many tourists.
The Jain Temples in Jaisalmerare marvelous treasures of the desert city. Having archaeological value as well as religious sentiments associated with it. Dating back to the 12th and 15th century, these temples have intricate designs on it.
Dedicated to different Tirthankars of Jains, the temples are holy pilgrimage and treasure troves for tourist with interest in history and religion. All the temples are built from the golden-yellow Jaisalmeri stone the city is so famous for. Themonuments are connected with each other. The seven beautiful temples seem like a mazeto the casual visitor. Every corner every temple have their own intriguing tales to tell.
The temples are dedicated to Chandraprabhu, Rishabhdev, Sambhavnath and Parshvanath.They are engraved with most impressive carvings. Savor the fine sculptures around the walls, protected by glass cabinets, and pillars beautifully sculpted with celestial women and gods.
Parshvanath temple has a beautifully carved entrancecrowning in an image of the Jain Tirthankara at its apex. Shitalnath temple dedicated to the 10th Tirthankara, whose image is combination of eight precious metals. The Sambhavanth temple is used as a devotional and meditation site by Jain pilgrims and devotees. The Gyan Bhandar which is a fascinating, tiny, underground library founded in 1500 is also housed among the temples. Here priceless ancient texts and manuscripts are collected. The remaining two temples, Shantinath and Kunthunath, were built in 1536 and feature plenty of sensual carvings.
Shoes, leather items, food items are strictly prohibited. The time restrictions are only for tourists. Jain pilgrims can visit throughout the day. Observe the craftsmanship on the walls, idols and every corner you see. The serene location blends well with the fort. Spend time here to relish history and the heritage of Jain faith.

The style got its name from the famous 'Dilwara Temples' situated on Mount Abu, a famous Hill station and pilgrimage destination in Rajasthan. The Jain temples in the Jaisalmer Fort are dedicated to Rikhabdevji and Shambhavdev Ji, the famous Jain hermits known as 'Tirthankars'. Like all other structures in Jaisalmer, these temples are craved of yellow sandstones. The beautifully carves decorations on the wall will give you divine peace. The Astapadhi Temples that are situated in the same complex are a must visit too.
The temple complex is open through out the morning till 12noon, for the visitors. So try to get up a bit early or you might miss this splendor. The campus also contain Gyan Bhandar library. Well if you are a student of comparative archeology or otherwise, the library will prove to be a good place to prowl as it contains some of the rare manuscripts available in India.

जैसलमेर, राजस्थान का सबसे ख़ूबसूरत शहर है और जैसलमेर पर्यटन का सबसे आकर्षक स्थल माना जाता है। जैसलमेर शहर के निकट एक पहाड़ी पर बने हुए इस दुर्ग में राजमहल, कई प्राचीन जैन मंदिर और ज्ञान भंडार नामक एक पुस्तकालय है, जिसमें प्राचीन संस्कृत तथा प्राकृत पांडुलिपियाँ रखी हुई हैं। इसके आसपास का क्षेत्र, जो पहले एक रियासत था, लगभग पूरी तरह रेतीला बंजर इलाक़ा है और थार मरुस्थल का एक हिस्सा है। यहाँ की एकमात्र काकनी नदी काफ़ी बड़े इलाके में फैल कर भिज झील का निर्माण करती है। जैसलमेर, ज़िले का प्रमुख नगर हैं जो नक़्क़ाशीदार हवेलियों, गलियों, प्राचीन जैन मंदिरों, मेलों और उत्सवों के लिये प्रसिद्ध हैं। निकट ही 'सम' गाँव में रेत के टीलों का पर्यटन की दृष्टि से विशेष महत्त्व हैं। यहाँ का सोनार क़िला राजस्थान के श्रेष्ठ धान्वन दुर्गों में माना जाता हैं।
जैसलमेर की स्थापना भारतीय इतिहास के मध्यकाल के प्रारंभ में ११७८ ई. के लगभग यदुवंशी भाटी के वंशज रावल-जैसल द्वारा की गई थी। रावल जैसल के वंशजों ने यहाँ भारत के गणतंत्र में परिवर्तन होने तक बिना वंश क्रम को भंग किए हुए ७७० वर्ष सतत शासन किया, जो अपने आप में एक महत्वपूर्ण घटना है। जैसलमेर राज्य ने भारत के इतिहास के कई कालों को देखा व सहा है। सल्तनत काल के लगभग ३०० वर्ष के इतिहास में गुजरता हुआ यह राज्य मुगल साम्राज्य में भी लगभग ३०० वर्षों तक अपने अस्तित्व को बनाए रखने में सक्षम रहा। भारत में अंग्रेज़ी राज्य की स्थापना से लेकर समाप्ति तक भी इस राज्य ने अपने वंश गौरव व महत्व को यथावत रखा। भारत की स्वतंत्रता के पश्चात यह भारतीय गणतंत्र में विलीन हो गया। भारतीय गणतंत्र के विलीनकरण के समय इसका भौगोलिक क्षेत्रफल १६,०६२ वर्ग मील के विस्तृत भू-भाग पर फैला हुआ था। रेगिस्तान की विषम परिस्थितियों में स्थित होने के कारण यहाँ की जनसंख्या बींसवीं सदी के प्रारंभ में मात्र ७६,२५५ थी।[1]
जैसलमेर जिले का भू-भाग प्राचीन काल में ’माडधरा’ अथवा ’वल्लभमण्डल’ के नाम से प्रसिद्ध था। महाभारत के युद्ध के बाद बड़ी संख्या में यादव इस ओर अग्रसर हुए व यहां आ कर बस गये। यहां अनेक सुंदर हवेलियां और जैन मंदिरों के समूह हैं जो 12वीं से 15वीं शताब्दी के बीच बनाए गए थे।

The golden city of India, Jaisalmer, is located in the very west of Rajasthan, in the Thar desert. Jaisalmer is called the Golden City, as houses built from a local variety of yellow sandstone shine with gold in the evening light. The fortress is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the Rajasthan Forts group.
A week is not enough to go around all the temples and admire all the sights of the city of Jaisalmer. But having been here, you will forever keep in your heart this beauty and magnificent stories.

The Jain Temples of Rajasthan Bhandasar, Jaisalmer, Lodhrava & Ranakpur
Dedicated to Sumatinath, the fifth Tirthankara of Jainsim, Bhandasar Jain Temple is one of the most popular temples of Bikaner. This 2-storied Jain temple of Bikaner is also known as Bhandreshwar temple and is made out of red sandstone. It is believed that the construction of the temple was commissioned in 1468 by a wealthy merchant, Bhandasa Oswal. The construction continued even after his demise in the year 1514.This temple is an architectural masterpiece and includes of an antarala, an ardhamandapa, a garbhgriha and a mahamandapa. Detailed paintings can be seen on the pillars and walls of the mandapa and sanctum or pancharatha. These paintings have been adorned with gold leaf patterns. The locals say that instead of mortar, the temple is made with the use of around 40,000 kg of ghee that trickles from the walls during summers. The idol of Lord Sumatinath is made of marble and stands on a throne in silver, which is placed on a 2 ft high pavilion. The marble pillars of Bhandasar Jain Temple are decked-up with floral arabesque pattern and events reflecting the lives of the 24 Jain Tirthankars. The walls and the floorings contain beautiful dancing images of maidens and multi-colored floral designs. Imported porcelain tiles adorn the linings of tower of the second floor and the main alter. There are a number of chambers containing the idols of other Jain Tirthankars and deities. The mirror-work is the highlight. From the carved balconies of the temple, enjoy mesmerizing views of the surroundings.

Jain Temples of Jaisalmer Fort - Rajasthan
Intricate carvings on the walls of Jain Temples of Jaisalmer Fort in Rajasthan, India.
Jain Temples situated in the Jaisalmer Fort are a must visit site in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. You will find these temples to be very old and high pilgrimage as well as archeological value attached to them. These are a group of Jain temples dating back 12th and 15th centuries and are dedicated to various Jain Tirthankars (Hermits). On the walls of the temples, you can find animal & human figures, carved in famous Dilwara style.
These temples are built in the Dilwara style that is famous all over the world for its architecture. The style got its name from the famous 'Dilwara Temples' situated on Mount Abu, a famous Hill station and pilgrimage destination in Rajasthan. The Jain temples in the Jaisalmer Fort are dedicated to Rikhabdevji and Shambhavdev Ji, the famous Jain hermits known as 'Tirthankars'. Like all other structures in Jaisalmer, these temples are craved of yellow sandstones. The beautifully carves decorations on the wall will give you divine peace. The Astapadhi Temples that are situated in the same complex are a must visit too.
The temple complex is open through out the morning till 12noon, for the visitors. So try to get up a bit early or you might miss this splendor. The campus also contain Gyan Bhandar library. Well if you are a student of comparative archeology or otherwise, the library will prove to be a good place to prowl as it contains some of the rare manuscripts available in India.

The seven beautiful temples seem like a mazeto the casual visitor. Every corner every temple have their own intriguing tales to tell.
The temples are dedicated to Chandraprabhu, Rishabhdev, Sambhavnath and Parshvanath.They are engraved with most impressive carvings. Savor the fine sculptures around the walls, protected by glass cabinets, and pillars beautifully sculpted with celestial women and gods.
