Gyeongpodae Pavilion, Gyeongpo Lake, and Gyeongpo Beach in Gangneung, South Korea
We travel from mountainous Dogye, South Korea by bus, down to the city of Gangneung, South Korea, on the East Sea Coast. There, we visit the ancient, historic Gyeongpodae Pavilion, Gyeongpo Lake, and Gyeongpo Beach.
We return to Dogye on the KORAIL train from Gangneung Station, seeing the beautiful, rugged coast along the way.

Hi guys! Last Saturday I decided to finally take the KTX from Seoul to #Gangneung over on the east coast of Korea. I spent the (very windy!) day exploring cafes, the beach, and a household that used to be where all the artists of the Joseon dynasty would stay to be inspired by nature :) Overall, a perfect day. Visiting Gangeung's beaches has been one of my most memorable things I've done in South Korea so far. If you did not know, Gangneung is the are the most recent Winter Olympics were held here in South Korea and I can see why they chose this area. The town was very quaint and the beaches and ocean were absolutely stunning. I already want to go back!

Tara Sa Gangneung Gyeongpo Beach South Korea 강릉 경포 해변
Located 1 km away from Gyeongpodae, Gyeongpo Beach is a sand bank formed between Gyeongpo Lake and the ocean. This beautiful beach extends to a length of 6 km and is covered with fine sand. It is a very well-known tourist attraction within Korea: a flawless combination of nature and cultural relics.
Gyeongpo Beach is famous for its picturesque sunrise and tranquil moonrise. There are other nearby attractions in the area, like the pine forest (4 km) and wild roses, which grow in various areas around the beach. Those who enjoy ocean fishing can take a boat to the mall rocks just off the beach. There is an endless line of tourists, who come to visit the ancient buildings with their incredible scenery, like Gyeongpodae and Ojukheon.
In the spring, the Festival of Cherry Blossoms is held at the entrance to Gyeongpo Beach and in the summer, the Beach Festival and other various cultural events are held. (Traditional Literary Event, Beach Dance Festival, etc.)

1) Located 1 km away from Gyeongpodae in Gangneung (Gangwondo province), Gyeongpo Beach is a sand bank formed between Gyeongpo Lake and the ocean.
The largest beach on the east coast, and the third-busiest in South Korea, has 1.8km of flat, white sand bordered by pine trees and pleasant waters.

Gangneung Gangwon-do
Gangneung is a city in the province of Gangwon-do, on the east coast of South Korea. It has a population of 213,658. Gangneung is the economic centre of the Yeongdong region of Gangwon-do. Gangneung has many tourist attractions, such as Jeongdongjin, a very popular area for watching the sun rise, and Gyeongpo Beach. There is an ROK airbase south of downtown Gangneung that formerly doubled as a civil airport.

Located 214-221km from Seoul, around 3-4 hours of the drive (one-way) Gyeongpo Beach is a sandbank formed between Gyeongpo Lake and the ocean. This beautiful beach extends to a length of 6 km and is covered with fine sand. It is a very well-known tourist attraction within Korea: a flawless combination of nature and cultural relics. It’s also famous for its picturesque sunrise and tranquil moonrise. Those who enjoy ocean fishing can take a boat to the small rocks just off the beach.
It was mostly cloudy. windy and rainy along the coast towards the end of 2017 Summer. It wasn't the best weather to head out to the beach, but we did it anyway to understand if lucks on our side. But with almost no chance, the reality was cruel. Well, till the next time I guess. Nonetheless still a great summer experience by far as we visiting quite a number of the beach over the 2 months.
In particular, the drive through the misty B roads passing Daegwallyoung from Gyeongpo Beach was a great experience. First time driving in such low visibility (not forgetting it is still summer and not even fall) it was unexpectedly great feeling navigate and negotiate through the turns without knowing what's coming ahead. Guess that's life. Never know what's ahead of us but if we embrace it and we will be rewarded with the experience of your life. No regrets!
