Japanese HOT POT Feast + Odawara Castle TOUR | Odawara, Japan
It’s no wonder that Japan has been a popular tourist destination for years. Its cities are brimming with centuries of fascinating history and culture and the food scene around the island is unparalleled. The country is so clean and organized, and the natural beauty of the areas outside Tokyo is breathtaking. I hope you’re having as much fun watching this series as I had making it!
My next Japanese adventure took me to Odawara, a town that’s just 35 minutes south of Tokyo via bullet train. It’s a castle town, so I couldn’t wait to see and explore the famous Odawara Castle!
The castle is surrounded by a moat with fish in it. There are also beautiful plum blossom trees on the grounds. The castle has one main gate and the main castle building is set atop a massive stone platform. You have to take a lot of steps to get to the top!
Inside, we climbed to the top, where we had some amazing views of Odawara, lots of snowcapped mountains in the distance, and the Pacific Ocean. There are also binoculars you can use to get even better views for 100 Yen. The 360-degree views are gorgeous!
Then I went back to the bottom to get dressed up like a Samurai! I couldn’t wait to get in the gear. The samurai were feudal lords who ruled Japan for 500 years until 1868. My new friend Haley from Girls Love Travel also dressed up as a samurai!
Then we headed to the workshop at Sororito Odawara to make sachet bags. We could choose from six different natural fragrances and even mix them together if we wanted to. I mixed some frankincense, patchouli, sandalwood, cinnamon, spikenard, and Hedychium together with the mortar and pestle and put it in a silk sachet for my wife. They smelled really amazing together!
Next, it was time to get some oden, or Japanese hot pot, at Oden Honten. I love oden, and Odawara is famous for theirs, so I couldn’t wait to have some!
We started with some appetizers that included fish, green beans, beans and potato, tea, some spicy sauces, and more. The green tea was delicious!
After cleaning my hands with a wet towel, I started with a sardine, which was dry and salty and had a nice glaze on it. Then were the green beans with bonito flakes and sesame. They were a little sweet. There was also celery, cucumber, and red pepper, which was really refreshing. The red beans were also sweet. There were so many contrasting flavors!
Then it was time for the oden! I got mackeral, shrimp cakes, mackeral dumplings, and a white fish, along with mustard, wasabi, and plum miso. The mackeral was great and the wasabi was extremely hot! I liked the fish, which was nice and dense. I tried it with the mustard, which was strong, too!
Next was the white fish, which looked like a huge scallop. It was also dense, but good. The mackeral dumpling had lots of fish, salty flavor. I had it with the wasabi and loved it! The shrimp cake was also really unique. But the best part was the broth! It tasted like a miso soup and warmed me up.
Then was mackeral sushi with seaweed on top. It was gorgeous! The seaweed was very different and fragrant. It was probably the best sushi I’ve ever had. The flavors and textures were outstanding. It seriously blew my mind!
Then we had some wheat noodles, which were amazing! They were so juicy and absorbed the soup they were in. It was like a five-course lunch for 1,800 Yen.
Finally, we ended with some vanilla ice cream with plum jam. It had a nice, orange-like taste.
Then it was time for us to take the Shinkansen bullet train to Tokyo. We checked out some of the things you could buy at the station, including souvenirs, foods like mochis and fish cakes, and even sake!
We rode in Car 11 in Economy Class. It was tough traveling around with my huge luggage, especially up and down the stairs in the stations. I got to the platform just in time to see a bullet train fly by! You have to get on fast because they don’t stop for long.
Car 11 was one of the cars that requires a reservation. This train travels at 350 km per hour and takes only 35 minutes to get to Tokyo. It’s so fast! You have to get off fast! And just like that, I was back in Tokyo!
I hope you enjoyed my adventures in Odawara and my travels back to Tokyo! If you did, please give it a thumbs up, leave me a comment, and subscribe to my channel!

Japan Travel Vlog - Day 12: Odawara, Hakone and near Mt. Fuji
Read the full review here!:
Hey guys, It's me, Rkidz from the Otaku Club. This is my Japan travel video.
I went to japan for 2 weeks, from 7th to 21st of August 2016. It had been an enlightening and exciting experience, and was a cherished memory that I will never forget about.
Day 12.
Odawara castle and Hakone Hotspring.
I decided to go nearby Mount Fuji to take a good picture of it. To do so, I need to go to either Fuji Five Lake or Hakone. Decided to go to Hakone instead, because it is much cheaper. I think. I am wrong later on. Before going to Hakone, I decided to stay at Odawara a bit and admire the beautiful Odawara castle. It might look smaller than Osaka castle, and not as magnificent, but inside it feels much more spacious and the view on top is outstanding. Afterward, I took a train to Hakone. Rode another train later on which goes through the scenic mountain and forest trail; a treat to the eye. After reaching Gora, rode a cable car to Soenzan. When I'm about 750m above, I just realised its really cloudy, and feels like its gonna rain. I have to cancel my trip to Lake Ashi because I overspend on the entire trip and going now isn't worth it considering the weather. Later in the night, I went back and have a nice relaxing onsen in a cheap, a little rundown but atmospheric ryokan. It feels strange to go naked in a public place, but luckily by the time I went there everyone already finished and I got the onsen all by myself. Ended up with a dizzy head for staying inside the hot water for too long.
Next up, a trip on the shinkansen all around the Japan Alps. A short one, but nevertheless a memorable one.

Some of my favorite adventures I had during my 12-day trip to Japan were the ones I had just outside of Tokyo in the Yamanashi, Shizuoka, and Kanagawa Prefectures, and I want to share them with you in this guide to things you can do near Tokyo, Japan!
My Film Making Kit ►

15 Things to Do Near Tokyo, Japan - Visiting Yamanashi, Shizuoka & Kanagawa Prefectures
Exquisite JAPANESE Food + 10pm RAMEN at Mount Fuji Spa Hotel | Yamanashi, Japan
The Asian country of Japan is a traveler’s paradise. It’s a clean, safe, and highly organized mixture of hyper-futurism and thousands of years of ancient tradition fused together into a beautiful and complex package that never ceases to amaze. Add in the rich history, the kind locals, and the mind-blowing food, and I was in heaven the entire time I was there!
After arriving in the Yamanashi Prefecture earlier in the day, I made it to my hotel, La Vista Fuji-Kawaguchiko, which is absolutely beautiful and offers some of the most breathtaking views of Mount Fuji imaginable! My incredible room had a couch, a TV, and comfortable bed, a mini kitchen, a Jacuzzi, and more!
It was time for dinner, so I headed downstairs for an epic, 9-course Japanese dinner at the on-site Petit Poche Restaurant on the second floor. We started with a drink that was like a cross between a limoncello and champagne.
Then we had our first course, which consisted of foie gras, duck, broccoli, winter vegetables, and fish. It looked incredible. The fish was soft and slightly crunchy from the bones inside it. The broccoli was different, but absolutely delicious! The foie gras was amazing as well, even though I don’t like how it’s made, and the duck was wonderful. The herbs in a creamy sauce were also fantastic. I washed it down with a cold, smooth, dry sake! It was the best sake I’d had in Japan so far!
Next up was chicken with black truffle, herbs, and crispy, fried onions. The chicken was tender and juicy and the vegetables were a great addition. Then we had crab pasta with mullet fish shavings. It was buttery and a little spicy. It was my first time having pasta with chopsticks!
The next dish was bouillabaisse, a French, tomato-based seafood stew that contained shrimp, mussel, cod, a cod ovary, and a brussels sprout. The mussel was super buttery and the cod was nice and refreshing. The ovary was mushy, almost like brain. The shrimp was nice and succulent, and the fish-tomato broth had more tomato flavor than fish but was still really nice.
Then it was on to the main course, the wagyu beef with dried apple, potato, broccoli, dried pumpkin, mashed potatoes, and herbs. The beef was amazing, as you’d expect wagyu beef to be, the dried apple was nice and crunchy, and the sauce on the beef was sensational!
Then, we moved on to miso soup with clams, bamboo rice, and pickles. The bamboo rice was a sticky rice that had a hint of bamboo in it. The pickles were really strong, and the miso soup was very nice with the clams.
Next was a hazelnut ice cream with a chocolate berry sauce and oranges. I really liked the berry sauce. It was the perfect way to end this this ultimate gourmet Japanese dinner! It blew me away!
After dinner, I wanted to take you on a tour of the hotel. I started at a bar that doesn’t open until 9 p.m. There is also ramen from 10 p.m. until 11 p.m. The hotel also has public baths, but I couldn’t use them because I have tattoos. I’d use the private baths instead. There’s also a gift shop where you can buy locally-produced sweets like chocolates, as well as souvenirs and whiskey.
Before going to the private baths, I had to get my towels from my room. They also give you a gown, pants, and slippers to wear down to the baths, so I put those on and headed downstairs. There are five private baths. Inside the bath, they give you instructions on how to enjoy it properly.
My private bath was such a relaxing experience! You have to ease into the hot water slowly and keep a cold, wet towel on your head that you press on when you get too hot. What an experience!
After my bath, I changed and went down to the bar for some sake! I went with one I’d had earlier in the day. It cost $1,200 Yen/$10.82 U.S. for a large glass. The clearer the sake is, the better it is. This one was 40% clear and was amazing! It was dry and a little sweet. I loved it!
After the sake, I went back to the Petit Poche for some late-night soy sauce ramen! The noodles were thin and the broth was really nice. After my meal, I was ready for sleep!
The next morning, I started with a dip in the hot tub on my terrace with a spectacular view of Mount Fuji. I hope you loved this video! If you did, please give it a thumbs up, leave me a comment, and subscribe to my channel!

Mount Fuji 5th Station, Hakone Pirate Ship Cruise, Onsen Hotel | Day 10 | Hakone, Japan
Day 10 in Japan, we rented a car in Odawara and drove to Lake Kawaguchiko, which is said to be the nicest place to see Mount Fuji from afar. We saved a lot of money on our airbnb accommodations so we decided to splurge one night for our hotel stay at Fuji Kawaguchiko Onsen Hotel with an on-suite onsen and a view of Lake Kawaguchi. With an included 12 course dinner worth $150, a traditional ryokan experience, spectacular views and a buffet breakfast, the $600 CAD price tag was justified.
Next morning we headed to Mt. Fuji 5th station and tried their black ice cream. After turning our mouths black, we headed back down to the Togendai Port and boarded the Hakone Pirate ship cruise and toured around Lake Ashi.
We ended the night by taking the Romance train into Tokyo where we had conveyor belt suhi at Genki Sushi in Shibuya. A few more days in Tokyo and that'll conclude this Japan series, thanks for watching!

Best way to spend a day in Hakone | Hakone free pass - Round Course
Hakone (箱根) is part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, less than one hundred kilometers from Tokyo.
Famous for hot springs, natural beauty and the view across Lake Ashinoko of nearby Mount Fuji, Hakone is one of the most popular destinations among Japanese and international tourists looking for a break from Tokyo.
The Hakone Free Pass by Odakyu Railways is a discount pass for exploring Hakone. It provides unlimited use of Odakyu-affiliated buses, trains, boats, cablecars and ropeways in the Hakone area and discounted admission to selected tourist attractions on two or three consecutive days. Optionally, the pass also includes a discounted round trip from Tokyo's Shinjuku Station.
popular and attractive way of visiting Hakone is by circling the region with five different means of transport (train, cablecar, ropeway, boat and bus), using the Hakone Free Pass.
The round course outlined below starts and ends in Hakone-Yumoto and circles the Hakone region in the counter-clockwise direction. Of course, it is also possible to follow the course in the opposite direction or to start and end somewhere different.
If you leave early in the morning, it is possible to completed the Hakone round course in a one day trip from Tokyo. However, we recommend allocating two days and one night to your visit, preferably with a stay at a ryokan with hot spring baths.
Hakone Tozan Railway
Hakone-Yumoto to Gora
35 minutes, departures every 10-20 minutes
The Hakone Tozan Railway winds itself through a narrow, densely wooded valley, gaining more than 300 meters in altitude. Several hot springs and the Hakone Open Air Museum are located along its route.
Hakone Tozan Cablecar
Gora to Sounzan
10 minutes, departures every 20 minutes
The Hakone Art Museum and Gora Park are located in Gora along the cablecar route.
Hakone Ropeway
Sounzan to Togendai
30 minutes, constant departures
Nice views of Mount Fuji and the national park can be enjoyed from the Hakone Ropeway when visibility is good. A transfer of ropeways is required at Owakudani, where travelers can observe volcanic activities.
Hakone Sightseeing Boat
Togendai to Hakone-machi
30 minutes, departures every 30-60 minutes
Nice views of Lake Ashi, the surrounding wooded mountains and Mount Fuji can be enjoyed from the pirate ship shaped boats when visibility is good. Most ships operate from Togendai to Hakone-machi and then continue to Moto-Hakone.
On foot
Hakone-machi to Moto-Hakone
20-30 minutes
The Checkpoint Museum, Detached Palace Garden and the Ancient Cedar Avenue are located along this attractive walk from Hakone-machi to Moto-Hakone. Alternatively you could continue to Moto-Hakone by boat or take a bus.
Hakone Tozan Bus (line H or K)
Moto-Hakone to Hakone-Yumoto

SAMURAI Wheat Noodle HOT POT + Sake Brewery TOUR near Mount Fuji | Yamanashi, Japan
My trip to Japan in January of 2019 was one for the ages. After spending three days in Tokyo, I traveled south and spent two days exploring both Kyoto and Osaka, before I headed back to Tokyo to explore the prefectures, or states, around the city. It’s one of my favorite adventures I’ve ever been on and I’m thrilled that I get to share this amazing country with you guys!
My first full day in the Yamanashi Prefecture began in the town of Fujikawaguchiko, which sits in the shadow of Mount Fuji. There, I began another freezing day with a trip to the Ide Sake Brewery, which is the only sake brewery in the Five Lakes of Mt. Fuji region!
The Ide Sake Brewery dates back over 300 years and 21 generations and used to produce miso before they started making sake. Sake-making dates back 2,000 years and began in Shinto shrines around the country.
There are only 1,200 sake breweries in Japan, and only 15 in the Yamanashi Prefecture. We visited the fermentation room, where they have giant barrels, each of which has a different sake in it. The room smells like fermenting rice!
They make 8 different types of sake at Ide Brewery. We then visited the holding tanks where they age the sake. The aging process is different than that of wine and whiskey. It takes 2 years and can be aged in either bottles or tanks.
Then it was time for the tasting. My new friend Haley and I started with a 40%, which was the best sake I’d ever had! The second one was also really great. I bought a bottle of each of their two best sakes at only $33 each for my wife, a sake cup and pourer, as well as a little sake barrel for my house!
Next, we headed to the Fuji-San Deck, an observation deck that looks out at Mount Fuji. We had to run because we were running late! It takes five minutes to get to the top. The view is incredible! They were the best I’d had so far during my time in Japan. You can also see other mountains and lakes in the area. It’s stunning!
From there, it was time for lunch at a houtou noodle restaurant called Houtou Fudou. The restaurant is beautiful and has two types of dining hall. On the left is traditional, samurai-style seating, and on the right is regular seating.
I started with inarizushi, which is sticky rice inside a deep-fried tofu pocket that has a sweet sauce on it. It was incredible. The sauce on the outside was almost like honey. I loved it with ginger and it was super filling!
Then it was time for the houtou! Houtou is a hot pot dish that consists of udon noodles and vegetables in miso broth that originated in the Yamanashi Prefecture. The noodles are huge, flat, and thick and it smells amazing! It comes with red chili flakes on the side, which I added to my bowl. The houtou was incredible!
I put a lot of spice in it, but it was still phenomenal, even if the size of the bowl was a little overwhelming! It was served boiling hot and also contained fried tofu, mushrooms, carrots, and more. It’s a nice, hearty meal that’s perfect for the winter!
The dish is so big because samurais would eat it before going into battle. It contained all the vitamins and nutrients they needed, and they wouldn’t eat again for another day or more, so they needed a filling meal. This was my favorite miso soup with noodles!
My lunch cost 1,500 Yen, or roughly $13.50 U.S., for both the inarizushi and the houtou. The houtou by itself is 1,200 Yen, or just under $11 U.S.
Then it was time to head to the station to catch another train to another Japanese prefecture!
I hope you enjoyed coming along with me as I explored more of the Yamanashi Prefecture! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up, leave me a comment below, and please subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss any of my upcoming food/travel content!

SAMURAI Wheat Noodle HOT POT + Sake Brewery TOUR near Mount Fuji | Yamanashi, Japan
Japan Vlog - Hakone
Japan Vlog - Hakone
Episode 3 of the Japan Adventure centres around our trip to Mount Fuji and Mount Hakone. With a little hiccup early we caught a taxi, then met up with the tour group for a bus ride/karaoke experience on the way to Mt Fuji. After lunch we caught another bus and took a short boat ride to Mt Hakone. The scenery and views at both sites are beautiful and it was great day out.
This vlog also includes a series of first time experiences for us both. Taylah’s first bullet train experience, our first virtual reality experience, and my first bidet experience.... not everything was quite what we were expecting, but all were definitely very interesting!
Thanks for watching! I hope you continue to enjoy the vlogs for our Japan Adventure. It’d be great if you could give this video a thumbs up and leave a comment below. Be sure to subscribe to the channel for more videos from our trip and more great content every week!
