HMS M.33 is a unique survivor. Launched in May 1915 she is the sole remaining British veteran of that year’s bloody Gallipoli Campaign and the only British warship from the First World War that will be open to the public during the centenary year.

HMS M33 is now under wraps as conservation work steps up a gear. Specialists and volunteers on board are working to conserve the fabric of the vessel and her guns. The ship will open to the public in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard in August 2015.

HMS Victory is the main attraction at the Dockyard but there's plenty of superb other ones included in the 'Full Navy Ticket' which I bought. These include: HMS Warrior (1860), HMS M.33, various naval museums and a harbour boat tour.
It's only a few minutes walk from Portsmouth Harbour train station and easily one of the best attractions I've ever been to.

For the first time ever, the National Museum of the Royal Navy is embarking on Crowdfunding for one of our projects!
We will be using Indiegogo to raise £19,150 towards the restoration of First World War Monitor HMS M.33, the only British Royal Navy survivor of the 1915 Gallipoli Campaign.
HMS M.33 is currently undergoing restoration, and will open to the public in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard in August 2015.

HMS M33 is an M29-class monitor of the Royal Navy built in 1915. She saw active service at Gallipoli as well as in the Mediterranean during the First World War and then in Russia during the Allied Intervention in 1919. She was used subsequently as a mine-laying training ship, fuelling hulk boom defence workshop and floating office, being renamed HMS Minerva and Hulk C23, during her long life. Freshly refitted and now open to the general public at PORTSMOUTH Dockyard in the summer of 2015 she makes a welcome addition to the preserved fleet at Portsmouth. The tenting has been removed and HMS M.33 has been partially revealed! Work now continues on the interior of the ship, to prepare her for her opening to the public on 6th August 2015.

Walkthrough Tour of HMS Victory.
HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, ordered in 1758, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. She is best known for her role as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
She additionally served as Keppel's flagship at Ushant, Howe's flagship at Cape Spartel and Jervis's flagship at Cape St Vincent. After 1824, she was relegated to the role of harbour ship.
In 1922, she was moved to a dry dock at Portsmouth, England, and preserved as a museum ship. She has been the flagship of the First Sea Lord since October 2012 and is the world's oldest naval ship still in commission.
