Dailly Parish - Ayrshire, Scotland, United Kingdom

Dailly Parish is a small, rural parish located in the valley of the Water of Girvan in southwest Scotland. To the average visitor Dailly is a pretty country parish. For me, it is where my Wasson ancestors came from.

The parish features a handful of castles and estates, the ruins of a church that dates back to about 1200 AD, historic sites and a number of walking paths, some featuring views that reach Ailsa Craig, an island 10 miles offshore in the Firth of Clyde. Ailsa Craig is actually part of Dailly Parish; the landlocked parish was once much larger and extended to the coast, but parish lands were used to create Girvan and Barr parishes.

U12A0450 - Kilkerran Estate is one of the great manors and castles in Dailly Parish; historically, Kilkerran is home to Clan Fergusson; however, this is not the original location of Kilkerran; this was once the site of Barclanachan, a Kennedy family estate; Drumellan estate was absorbed into Kilkerran in the 1800s, and the Drumellan castle was torn down; for a time my Watson ancestors were farm workers at Drumellan

U12A0210 - Maxwellston Hill dominates the southwestern part of the parish; the remains of a Pictish fort are located at the summit, an ideal location given its outstanding panoramic views; the walking trail from the village of Dailly to the summit is rough and quite boggy in places

Maybole is a burgh of barony and police burgh of South Ayrshire, Scotland. Pop. 4,760. It is situated 9 miles south of Ayr and 50 miles southwest of Glasgow by the Glasgow and South Western Railway. Maybole has Middle Ages roots, receiving a charter from Donnchadh, Earl of Carrick in 1193. In 1516 it was made a burgh of regality, although for generations it remained under the suzerainty of the Kennedys, afterwards Earls of Cassillis and (later) Marquesses of Ailsa, the most powerful family in Ayrshire. The current Marquess of Ailsa lives at Cassillis House, just outside Maybole. In the late seventeenth century, a census recorded Maybole was home to 28 lords and landowners with estates in Carrick and beyond.

In former times, Maybole was the capital of the district of Carrick, and for long its characteristic feature was the family mansions of the barons of Carrick. Maybole Castle, a former seat of the Earls of Cassillis, dates to 1560 and still remains, although aspects of the castle are viewed as of concern. The public buildings include the town-hall, the Ashgrove and the Lumsden fresh-air fortnightly homes, and the Maybole combination poorhouse. Maybole is a short distance from the birthplace of Robbie Burns, the Scots national poet. Burns mother was a Maybole resident, Agnes Brown.

In the nineteenth century, Maybole became a centre of boots and shoe manufacturing. Margaret McMurray (??-1760), one of the last native speakers of a Lowland dialect of Scottish Gaelic is recorded to have lived at Cultezron (not to be confused with nearby Culzean), a farm on the outskirts of Maybole.

Maybole has a number of landmarks, reflecting its role as a settlement on the southwest Scottish coastline, 43 miles south of the commercial and shipbuilding concentrations on the River Clyde and Glasgow, and 92 miles north of Carlisle, the most north-westerly English city.

The ancestral seat of the Marquesses of Ailsa is Culzean Castle, now run by The National Trust for Scotland and located four miles west from Maybole. This dates from 1777; it stands on a basaltic cliff, beneath which are the Coves of Culzean, once the retreat of outlaws and a resort of the fairies. A primary rail service is at Maybole railway station. Set up in 1860. Two miles to the south-west are the ruins of Crossraguel (from Crois Riaghail meaning 'Cross of St Regulus' ) Abbey, founded about 1240. In the early 20th century, Maybole added a Baptist church. This was admitted to the Baptist Union in 1901 and appointed its first full minister in 1919, a year after the Great War finished.

Kirkoswald, where Robert Burns spent his seventeenth year, learning land-surveying, lies a little farther west. In the parish churchyard lie the real people who inspired two of Burn's fictitious characters Douglas Graham (Tam o' Shanter) and John Davidson (Souter Johnnie). Farther south are the ruins of Turnberry Castle, where Robert the Bruce is said to have been born. A few miles to the north of Culzean are the ruins of Dunure Castle, an ancient stronghold of the Kennedys.

Mugdock Country Park and Thunderstorm

I visited Mugdock Country Park last week and got caught in a thunderstorm. Mugdock has the ruins of two castles, and the West Highland Way passes through the park. It's a brilliant place to go for a hike and an explore. Mugdock is also the home to the Mugstock Music Festival, which has been confirmed for 2020.

In architecture, a folly is a building constructed primarily for decoration, but either suggesting by its appearance some other purpose, or merely so extravagant that it transcends the normal range of garden ornaments or other class of building to which it belongs. In the original use of the word, these buildings had no other use, but from the 19th to 20th centuries the term was also applied to highly decorative buildings which had secondary practical functions such as housing, sheltering or business use.[dubious -- discuss]

18th century English gardens and French landscape gardening often featured Roman temples, which symbolized classical virtues or ideals. Other 18th century garden follies represented Chinese temples, Egyptian pyramids, ruined abbeys, or Tatar tents, to represent different continents or historical eras. Sometimes they represented rustic villages, mills and cottages, to symbolize rural virtues.[1] Many follies, particularly during famine, such as the Irish potato famine, were built as a form of poor relief, to provide employment for peasants and unemployed artisans.

Tricky Ear Wax Removal Microsuction of Large Plug of Impacted Ear Wax - #398

This blocked ear wax removal extraction procedure is performed by UK pioneer and world-leading endoscopic ear wax removal specialist Mr Neel Raithatha (Consultant Audiologist) aka 'The Wax Whisperer’ at his clinic in Oadby, Leicester, UK.

Ear wax removal is necessary when ear wax build up becomes impacted. Symptoms causes by earwax blockage include: earache (otalgia), conductive hearing loss, blocked ear, vertigo, tinnitus, itchiness and irritation, occlusion etc.

The wonderful gentleman attended with deep impacted ear wax in his right ear canal. This was causing reduced hearing, aural fullness, occlusion and tinnitus. It was also preventing him from wearing his hearing aid due to acoustic feedback, i.e. ‘whistling’ of his hearing aid.

The ear wax plug was very deep in the ear canal and very impacted. There was also matted hair present. I had to manoeuvre the ear wax plug laterally to the front of the ear canal. However, this was difficult given he has a protruding ear canal, meaning I was having to bring forward a large plug of ear wax through a narrow ear canal aperture.

Nonetheless, and with patience, I successfully managed to remove the ear wax plug. This provided the client with instant relief of all of his symptoms.

The ear wax was quite dark in appearance. This typically means it has been inside his ear for a while and oxidised. Ear wax is generally more brown in appearance, but his ear wax was almost black.

Finally, during some of the ‘black-out’ segments, there is communication between myself and the client. I had decided not to edit this out as it provides an insight into what and why I’m doing what I am doing, and also on how the client is feeling during the procedure. This is extremely useful for anybody researching ear wax removal prior to attending their appointment, as they will know exactly what to expect. I apologise in advance if this is not to everyone’s liking.
