Elphie & Joel Road Trippin’: West Quoddy Head, New Brunswick, Quebec (10.08.17)
This footage starts at the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse around 6:00am prior to the sunrise which was covered by clouds & fog. We then drove to the border at St. Stephens, New Brunswick, where we were detained again. We drove through New Brunswick stopping occasionally to use WiFi at Tim Horton's to find interesting things & figure out where exactly we were going, We found the world's longest covered bridge. We crossed into Quebec as the rain finally let up bringing the first sight of sun, we passed a funny named town (Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha!) so we documented that and then drove into Quebec City were we visited Cimetiere (Cemetery) Belmont before leaving for our AirBnB in Montreal.
The soundtrack for this portion of the project is Sleep In Your Car by Insomniac Folklore, Oh Canada by Five Iron Frenzy, and Ghost In The Graveyard by Ghoti Hook.

#1 Cochrane Ontario OPP Precision MotorcycleTeam 2003
This is the first of three videos shot on a trip North from Cochrane Ontario to Moosonee Via. The Polar Bear Express, way back in August of 2003. We arrived in Cochrane just in time to watch a performance of precision Motorcycle riding by the Golden Helmets of the Ontario Provincial Police Force. (O.P.P.). These guys are certainly masters of their machines. The Second Video is the North Bound trip On the Polar Bear Express Train, a quick visit to Fossil Island, and a Tour of the Moosonee Dump.. ha.. Yup, to watch the Bears. Some are Huge, one easily tipping the Scales at over 500 lbs. The Third video is a historic tour of Moose Factory, The Cemetery, and many of the old buildings from the early days of The Hudson Bay Co.
Enjoy..

Dresden high school holds LKCS Olympics.wmv
Grade 6, 7 and 8 students from Dresden, Bothwell, Thamesville and Dawn-Euphemia gathered at Lambton-Kent Composite School in Dresden on Friday (Dec. 11) for the LKCS Olympics. Kristen McFadden, organizer and Grade 11 student at LKCS, said a committee of students worked on organizing the event for enrichment students from the Chatham-Kent area elementary schools. McFadden said the students got to take part in a variety of activities, all with an Olympic-theme. Chatham-Kent Daily Post (ckdp.ca) Editor Aaron Hall reports.

The Friendliest City in Sri Lanka? BATTICALOA. ????????
I hired a bicycle for the day and cycled around the east-coast city of Batticaloa. Their population is roughly 75% Tamils and 25% Muslims, with a few Sinhalaese and, as I discovered, 1 Englishman living there.
Typical of rental bikes in Sri Lanka it wasn't in great condition. No gears, rusty, breaks barely worked and a slow puncture on the front tyre. I still managed a good tour of Batticaloa and met a bunch of friendly people on the way.
I only saw three other white faces the whole day, and they were at the beach. The city itself seems to be a place tourists don't go. In such places the locals are always extremely friendly and happy to see that a foreigner finds their city interesting enough to visit.

SUMMARY
=======
Sawtooth National Forest is a National Forest that covers 2,110,408 acres (854,052 ha) in the U.S. states of Idaho (~96 percent) and Utah (~4 percent). Managed by the U.S. Forest Service in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, it was originally named the Sawtooth Forest Reserve in a proclamation issued by President Theodore Roosevelt on May 29, 1905. On August 22, 1972 a portion of the forest was designated as the Sawtooth National Recreation Area (SNRA), which includes the Sawtooth, Cecil D. Andrus–White Clouds, and Hemingway–Boulders wilderness areas. The forest is managed as four units: the SNRA and the Fairfield, Ketchum, and Minidoka Ranger Districts.
Sawtooth National Forest is named for the Sawtooth Mountains, which traverse part of the SNRA. The forest also contains the Albion, Black Pine, Boise, Boulder, Pioneer, Raft River, Smoky, Soldier, Sublett, and White Cloud mountain ranges, as well as Hyndman Peak, the ninth-highest point in Idaho at 12,009 feet (3,660 m) above sea level. Sawtooth National Forest contains land cover types which include sagebrush steppe, spruce-fir forests, alpine tundra, and over 1,100 lakes and 3,500 miles (5,600 km) of rivers and streams. Plants and animals found only in the Sawtooth National Forest and adjacent lands include Christ's Indian paintbrush, Davis' springparsley, the South Hills crossbill, and the Wood River sculpin.
The area that is now Sawtooth National Forest was first occupied by people as early as 8000 BC and by the Shoshone tribe after 1700 AD. The first European descendants migrating from the eastern United States arrived in the area around the 1820s; they were mainly explorers, trappers, and prospectors, and they founded many of the current towns around what later became the forest. Sawtooth National Forest offers facilities for recreation, with four ski areas, whitewater and flatwater boating, hunting, 81 campgrounds, and over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) of trails and roads for hiking, mountain biking, and all-terrain vehicle use, including two National Recreation Trails.

SUMMARY
=======
The New Zealand Company, chartered in the United Kingdom, was a company that existed in the first half of the 1800s on a business model focused on the systematic colonisation of New Zealand. The company was formed to carry out the principles devised by Edward Gibbon Wakefield, who envisaged the creation of a new-model English society in the southern hemisphere. Under Wakefield’s model, the colony would attract capitalists who would then have a ready supply of labour—migrant labourers who could not initially afford to be property owners, but who would have the expectation of one day buying land with their savings.The New Zealand Company established settlements at Wellington, Nelson, Wanganui and Dunedin and also became involved in the settling of New Plymouth and Christchurch. The original New Zealand Company started in 1825, with little success, then rose as a new company when it merged with Wakefield's New Zealand Association in 1837, received its royal charter in 1840, reached the peak of efficiency about 1841, encountered financial problems from 1843 from which it never recovered, returned its charter in 1850 and wound up all remaining business with a final report in 1858.
The company’s board members included aristocrats, members of Parliament and a prominent magazine publisher, who used their political connections to ceaselessly lobby the British government to achieve its aims. The company indulged in many questionable land purchases from Māori, in many cases reselling land it did not own, and launched elaborate, grandiose and sometimes fraudulent advertising campaigns. It vigorously attacked those it perceived as its opponents—chiefly the British Colonial Office, successive governors of New Zealand, the Church Missionary Society and prominent missionary the Rev. Henry Williams—and it stridently opposed the Treaty of Waitangi, which was an obstacle to the company obtaining the greatest possible amount of New Zealand land at the cheapest price. The company, in turn, was frequently criticised by the Colonial Office and New Zealand Governors for its trickery and lies. Missionaries in New Zealand were also critical of the company, fearing its activities would lead to the “conquest and extermination” of Maori inhabitants.
The company viewed itself as a prospective quasi-government of New Zealand and in 1845 and 1846 proposed splitting the colony in two, along a line from Mokau in the west to Cape Kidnappers in the east—with the north reserved for Māori and missionaries, while the south would become a self-governing province, known as New Victoria and managed by the company for that purpose. Britain's Colonial Secretary rejected the proposal.Only 15,500 settlers arrived in New Zealand as part of the company's colonisation schemes, but three of its settlements would—along with Auckland—become and remain the country's main centres and provide the foundation for the system of provincial government introduced in 1853.

SUMMARY
=======
The Province of Upper Canada (French: province du Haut-Canada) was a part of British Canada established in 1791 by the Kingdom of Great Britain, to govern the central third of the lands in British North America. It was the primary destination of Loyalist refugees and settlers from the United States after the American Revolution. The new province remained, for the next fifty years of growth and settlement, the colonial government of the territory.
Upper Canada existed from its establishment on 26 December 1791 to 10 February 1841 when it was united with adjacent Lower Canada to form the Province of Canada. The upper prefix in the name reflects its geographic position along the Great Lakes, mostly above the headwaters of the Saint Lawrence River, contrasted with Lower Canada (present-day Quebec) to the northeast.
Upper Canada included all of modern-day Southern Ontario and all those areas of Northern Ontario in the Pays d'en Haut which had formed part of New France, essentially the watersheds of the Ottawa River or Lakes Huron and Superior, excluding any lands within the watershed of Hudson Bay.

SUMMARY
=======
Dallas () is a city in the U.S. state of Texas. With an estimated 2017 population of 1,341,075, it is the ninth most-populous city in the U.S. and third in Texas after Houston and San Antonio. Dallas is the main core of the largest metropolitan area in the Southern United States and the largest inland metropolitan area in the U.S. that lacks any navigable link to the sea. It is the most populous city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the country at 7.3 million people as of 2017. Dallas is the seat of Dallas County. Sections of the city extend into Collin, Denton, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties.
Dallas and nearby Fort Worth initially developed due to the construction of major railroad lines through the area allowing access to cotton, cattle, and later oil in North and East Texas. The construction of the Interstate Highway System reinforced Dallas's prominence as a transportation hub, with four major interstate highways converging in the city and a fifth interstate loop around it. Dallas then developed as a strong industrial and financial center, and a major inland port, due to the convergence of major railroad lines, interstate highways, and the construction of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, one of the largest and busiest airports in the world.Dallas is rated a beta(+) global city. The economy of Dallas is considered diverse, with dominant sectors including defense, financial services, information technology, telecommunications, and transportation. It serves as the headquarters for 9 Fortune 500 companies within the city limits. The Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex hosts additional Fortune 500 companies, including American Airlines (Fort Worth), ExxonMobil (Irving), and J.C. Penney (Plano). The city has a population from a myriad of ethnic and religious backgrounds and the sixth-largest LGBT population in the United States.
