Satoyama Holiday in Japan 2020 Visiting the town of Omi Hino merchants
Satoyama Holiday in Japan 2020 Visiting the town of Omi-Hino-merchants
Part2
Tokyo Olympic Games will be held in 2020 and many people are planning to come to Japan. A lot of people are probably thinking of going to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto.
However these cities don’t represent Japan. If you want to see the authentic Japan, you must come to Satoyama.
One of Satoyama areas near Kyoto is Hino Town in Shiga Prefecture. It has many rice fields, mountains, and rivers to experience Satoyama life; such as Satoyama cycling, walking, mountain climbing, working in rice paddies and vegetable gardens.
On top of that, Hino is the birth place of Omi-Hino-merchants and it has historical significance. There are many Kominkas, traditional style Japanese houses which used to belong to Omi-Hino-merchants, and they are as elegant as Machiyas in Kyoto.
At the end of October there is a festival called Sajiki Mado Art Festival, and it is a good time to visit Hino along with Hino Festival in May and Hinamatsuri Kiko in March.
In this video I am showing the town of Hino during Sajiki Mado Art Festival.
If you are visiting Kyoto anyway, you should consider coming to Hino Town since it is only one and half hours from Kyoto. You can enjoy traditional Japanese culture here without surrounded by so many tourists.

Nagano Togakushi Shrine - 戸隠神社 - 4K Ultra HD
Nagano Togakushi Shrine - 戸隠神社 - 4K Ultra HD Today’s video will be a little special since it is actually the first video in a series of three. Indeed the famous shrine (jinja) Togakushi in Nagano is spread across three main locations with each place hosting respectively, the main shrine the Togakushi-Chūsha (中社), the Togakushi-Hōkōsha (宝光社) and the Togakushi-Okusha (奥社). There are actually 2 more smaller shrines (the Hino-miko-sha and the Kuzuryu-sha is God) but they are not as majestic as the other ones and only matter in a purely spiritual way.
The three shrines are in fact separated, a distance of about 2km between each other, and are all located in the Togakushi village at the base of the Mount Togakushi (1,904m) in Nagano prefecture.
According to the legend, these shrines histories started in 210 B.C. but it is only in 684 that a temporary building was erected and we had to wait until 849 for the first monks to come and live there.
The shrines are related to an important story in Japanese mythology in which the Sun Goddess hid herself in a cave in Kyushu after her brother had misbehaved by bringing darkness to the world.
In order to get the sunlight back, the other divinities tried to lure the Sun Goddess out of the cave by performing gorgeous dance performances in front of her cave. As the Sun Goddess start to took a peek out, one of the divinities grabbed the cave's stone door and threw it away to prevent her from hiding again. The stone door flew all the way to Togakushi in Nagano, which is also how the area got its name: Togakushi (戸隠) stands for hiding door.
Now you have the back story, today’s video will concentrate on the main shrine, the Togakushi-Chūsha (中社), while the next two will cover the Togakushi-Hōkōsha (宝光社) and the Togakushi-Okusha (奥社).

Fushimi Inari Shrine Kyoto Travel 2020
Tokyo Olympic Games will be held in 2020 and many people are planning to travel to Japan. Kyoto definitely is a city you want to visit in Japan in addition to Tokyo. While Tokyo has modern aspects of Japanese culture such as anime and technology, Kyoto has traditional Japanese culture. There are traditional Japanese townhouses called machiya, people walking in kimono, and there are many temples and shrines.
When you come to Kyoto Fushimi Inari Shrine is definitely in your itinerary since it is the most popular sightseeing spot in Japan now and it is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates. It is said that you can make your wishes come true if you make wishes under those tori gates, but most people don’t know how to make wishes properly.
In this video, I will share with you the secret of making wishes at Shinto shrines from the point of view of the law of attraction according to ZENWSP.

Samurai Parade - Akechi Mitsuhide Festival in Kameoka
Akechi Mitsuhide is a small festival held on May 3rd in Kameoka with a samurai parade, taiko drumming, and gun demonstration. Akechi Mitsuhide (1528-1582) was a samurai who joined the warlord Oda Nobunaga in his quest to unify Japan. Akechi took over the Tamba region and built a castle in Kameoka in 1577.
In 1582 he led an army from there to attack and kill his lord. There are several theories as to why the most popular being that he was avenging personal insults and the death of his mother which Oda Nobunaga was responsible for causing. This act earned Akechi Mitsuhide eternal infamy but in Kameoka they like him and put on this festival for him every year.

Kengun Shrine 健軍神社 the oldest traditional shrine in Kumamoto City
Kengun Shrine is the oldest traditional shrine in Kumamoto City
History[edit] LegendAccording to a legend, Emperor Keiko ordered 健緒組命(Takeogumino-mikoto)to conquor enemies who were around Mt. Choraina or Chorainasan (at Mashiki ?). He succeeded and was enshrined. (Local kami or shrine called ubugamisama might be there)
According to an old document, this shrine was built in the 19th year of Emperor Kimmei (欽明天皇, Kinmei-tenno, 509-571), the 29th emperor of Japan. A governor of Higo Province , now Kumamoto, Kumamoto was on his way to Aso Shrine to pray for his country, but heavy snow prevented him from going to Aso. A boy, about 3-years of age, appeared to him and said, Your faith in Aso God is very deep, and you are going to Aso in spite of heavy snow. You should build a shrine here, since Aso Shrine was busy with the defense of the emperor who is east, while you must defend this place against enemies west, so the name should be Kengun.
13 kami are enshrinedThe main kami is Kengun Ohkami(Take-ogumino-mikoto), who was a related kami of Aso Shrine. The name of kami is 健緒組命 and 健 is also called Ken. Other kami are 健磐龍命,阿蘇都比賣命 and others. They came by Bunrei from Aso Shrine.
Satsuma RebellionOn February 22, 1877, 1400 Samurais decided to side with the Satsuma Rebellion force in the Kengun Shrine area and formed a Kumamoto Company and they started to fight against the Kumamoto Castle. At the Satsuma Rebellion, the kami of burnt Katō Shrine and kami of burnt Fujisaki-hachimangu were transiently relocated at the Kengun Shrine.

Satoyama Holiday in Japan 2020 Mountain Climbing
Tokyo Olympic Games will be held in 2020 and many people are planning to come to Japan. A lot of people are probably thinking of going to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto.
However these cities don’t represent Japan. If you want to see the authentic Japan, you must come to Satoyama.
One thing you can do in Satoyama is mountain climbing. Mountain Climbing is a very popular activity in Japan since 70% of our land consists of mountains. Many people climb mountains including old people and that is one of the causes of our longevity.
In this video I am climbing Mt. Watamuki which is the main mountain in Hino Town in Shiga Prefecture next to Kyoto. Mt. Watamuki is the object of worship in Hino Town and it is connected to Watamuki shrine. There is a small shrine at the summit and before the Hino Festival which is held at Watamuki shrine in May, some members of the festival climb the mountain to conduct a ceremony there. It used to be a mountain of Shugendo and some monks trained there. You may have seen Shugendo monks in Hayao Miyazaki’s animation film Princess Mononoke. A character called Jiko-bo is one of these monks.
If you are visiting Kyoto anyway, you should consider coming to Hino Town since it is only one and half hours from Kyoto. You can enjoy Satoyama cycling and mountain climbing here. Unlike climbing famous mountains such as Mt. Fuji or mountains in North Alps, you can experience a local mountain here. You can see how a mountain is part of Satoyama culture and a local community by visiting the shrine and the village first before climbing the mountain.
In Hino, mountain climbing isn’t just a regular outdoor sport, it is a form of worship and part of Satoyama lifestyle.
Today I am climbing the mountain with Canadian guests, so you can see how they experience the mountain.

Япония. Свадьба в храме Цуругаока Хатимангу в городе Камакура/Tsurugaoka Hachimang.Kamakura.Japan
