Welcome to Japan Annventures
Things to do in Kamakura?
In this video you will see The Great Buddha in Kamakura Japan, The Hachimangu Shrine and the Hasedera Temple
The Great Buddha of Kamakura (鎌倉大仏, Kamakura Daibutsu) is a bronze statue of Amida Buddha, which stands on the grounds of Kotokuin Temple. With a height of 11.4 meters, it has long been the second tallest bronze Buddha statue in Japan, surpassed only by the statue in Nara's Todaiji Temple and some recent creations.
The statue was cast in 1252 and originally located inside a large temple hall. However, the temple buildings were destroyed multiple times by typhoons and a tsunami in the 14th and 15th centuries. So, since the late 15th century, the Buddha has been standing in the open air.
The Great Buddha is located a 5-10 minute walk from Hase Station.

The Hachimangu Shrine
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu (鶴岡八幡宮, Tsurugaoka Hachimangū) is Kamakura's most important shrine. It was founded by Minamoto Yoriyoshi in 1063, and enlarged and moved to its current site in 1180 by Minamoto Yoritomo, the founder and first shogun of the Kamakura government.
The shrine is dedicated to Hachiman, the patron god of the Minamoto family and of the samurai in general. The deified spirits of the ancient Emperor Ojin who has been identified with Hachiman, Hime-gami and Empress Jingu are enshrined at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine can be reached from Kamakura Station either through the busy Komachi-dori shopping street, or along the Dankazura, a pedestrian path in the center of Wakamiya Oji Street that is lined with several hundred cherry trees. Via either route, the walk from Kamakura Station to the shrine takes about 10-15 minutes.
Hasedera Temple
Hasedera (長谷寺) is a temple of the Jodo sect, famous for its eleven-headed statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy. The 9.18 meter tall, gilded wooden statue is regarded as one of the largest wooden sculpture in Japan and can be viewed in the temple's main building, the Kannon-do Hall. According to legend, it was carved from the same tree as the similarly tall Kannon statue worshiped at the Hasedera Temple in Nara Prefecture.
Adjacent to the main hall is the Kannon Museum, a small museum that requires an additional entrance fee. It exhibits some more of the temple's treasures, including Buddhist statues, a temple bell and a picture scroll. Explanatory signs are in Japanese, and an English pamphlet with basic explanations is available. On the opposite side of the main hall stands the Amida-do Hall with an almost three meter tall, golden statue of Amida Buddha.
Hasedera is located a five minute walk from Hase Station, the third station from Kamakura along the Enoden railway line. The Enoden is a streetcar-like train that connects Kamakura with Enoshima and Fujisawa. Its terminal station in Kamakura is located just next to JR Kamakura Station.

Exploring Yokohama, Hakone and Kamakura in Japan - The Kanagawa Prefecture
Kanagawa is a coastal prefecture in Japan, located within a short distance of Tokyo. The capital of the prefecture is Yokohama.
Yokohama is also the place where most of the Rugby World Cup games will be held.
Kanagawa Prefecture is also home to Kamakura and Hakone, two other highly popular day trip destinations that you can easily reach from Tokyo.
Kanagawa has a lot to offer for visitors to the region, such as rich cultural heritage, tasty cuisine and entertaining nightlife. It's worth spending some time here and exploring this unique area of Japan.
Within this helpful travel guide I will unearth the hidden gems that are worth discovering around the Kanagawa Prefecture.
We started in Yokohama, where we stayed in a capsule hotel. We visited the Cupnoodles Museum and the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum. Both very yummy experiences. At night we headed into the Noge district, where you find good bars and good food. Next to the Yokohama Harbor Front you'll find also China Town.
Good day trips are to Hakone with Lake Ashi, Owakudani valley and the Hakone Shinto Shrine with the Floating Gate. The Hakone Transport Pass is helpful to get around, which includes the busses, trams, ropeway & the Hakone sightseeing cruise.
Another good day trip is to Kamakura where you can visit the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, the Houkokuji Bamboo Forest with its Tea Ceremony. Also worth visiting is the Masamune Sword and Blade Workshop, where you can buy kitchen knives and see the original Samurai swords. For lunch we recommend Okonomiyaki Kamakura Tsukui.
Have fun exploring the areas of Yokohama, Hakone and Kamakura on your next trip to Japan.

EXPLORING TEMPLES | Kamakura, Kanagawa
During my spring trip to Tokyo, I decided to spend a day in Kamakura. It's about an hour train ride from Tokyo and is a beautiful small town with temples galore.
I first headed to the Great Buddha, or Kamakura Daibutsu. This is one of those super famous photo spots of Japan. It's the second largest bronze buddha in Japan.
I also went to Hase-dera Temple which has a beautiful garden and interesting cave within the temple grounds. Finally, I stopped at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine which is located in the middle of town with a long walkway leading up to the shrine.
Much love and happy travels

Yokosuka Band @Lantern Festival in Kamakura. Focused on percussionists.
On 7th August 2019, there started annual Lantern Festival at Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu shrine in Kamakura. If you are interested in this shrine, click the link below and get more information about it.
The Festival is opened with the concert by Yokosuka Band of JMSDF (or Japanese Navy) every year.
I got there this time for the first time and recorded some video focused on percussionists of the band. Naoko Akasaki, my acquaintance, is the key percussionist in the band, who moved from the Tokyo Band this March.
Enjoy her performance on keyboard percussion instruments.

What It’s Like To Carry A Japanese Mikoshi
Last year, my friend invited me to help carry her local mikoshi.
It was such an awesome experience but omg was it heavy!!
What is a mikoshi, you ask?
A mikoshi (Japanese: 神輿) is a divine palanquin (also translated as portable Shinto shrine). Shinto followers believe that it serves as the vehicle to transport a deity in Japan while moving between main shrine and temporary shrine during a festival or when moving to a new shrine.

JAPAN VLOG #21 - KAMAKURA
#SurpriseTrip #AshinokoHanaori #Hakone
With a bad weather report for Hakone we went to Kamakura for a day trip. The many shrines and temples around this area are amazing, and being one of the places you can do a day trip from Tokyo, the number of turists is high. The weather got bad in the afternoon and we couldn't visit Enoshima. Maybe another time.

#58 I walked around Enkakuji Temple in Kamakura.
※I'm sorry. The recorded sound was terrible, and I was misled by covering the songs in the YouTube audio library. .
This time I walked around Enkakuji Temple in Kamakura City.
Enkakuji is a very historic temple in front of Kita-Kamakura Station on the JR Yokosuka Line.
The temple was opened in 1282. At that time, the politician Hojo Tokimune was built to mourn the victims of the Mongolian invasion regardless of their enemies or allies.

Japan - Kanagawa - Kenchō-ji
Kenchō-ji (建長寺) is a Rinzai Zen temple in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, which ranks first among Kamakura's so-called Five Great Zen Temples (the Kamakura Gozan) and is the oldest Zen training monastery in Japan.[1] These temples were at the top of the Five Mountain System, a network of Zen temples started by the Hōjō Regents. Still very large, it originally had a full shichidō garan and 49 subtemples.
(
Kenchoji is a 15-20 minute walk from Kita-Kamakura Station on the JR Yokosuka Line, one station before Kamakura Station when coming from Tokyo. It can also be reached in about a 15 minute walk from Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.
