Haddon Hall - Bakewell - Derbyshire
Haddon Hall is probably the finest example of a fortified medieval manor house in existence. Present-day Haddon Hall dates from the 12th Century to the early 17th Century, whereupon it lay dormant for over two hundred years from 1700 until the 1920s, when the 9th Duke and Duchess of Rutland restored the house and gardens, and once again made it habitable.
Little wonder Haddon Hall is recognised as one of the most romantic houses in Britain.

Haddon Hall is one of those places that just kind of happen. We had nothing really to special to see and Jo went and did some research and found this place in the Peak District. That is how we found Haddon Hall in Derbyshire England. It isn't one of those places that many have heard about and thank goodness for that.

A short video of our recent visit to Bakewell on a sunny Friday afternoon.
Perhaps best known for its unique and delicious Pudding, Bakewell has many more tempting treats to offer - ranging from shopping and specialist markets to relaxing strolls and special events.
Idyllically situated on the banks of the river Wye, the biggest town in the Peak District National Park's mellow stone buildings, medieval five-arched stone bridge and quaint courtyards are a magnet for painters, photographers and sightseers alike.

Peak District Country Walk Chatsworth to Haddon Hall via Bakewell
Our video showcases some of the sites from a walk in the Peak District from Chatsworth House to Haddon Hall.
Starting from Chatsworth, the route first goes through the estate village of Edensor. A path climbs through the village and then joins a road which is followed until it joins a path down towards Bakewell.
Arriving at the cattle market, the walk turns left along the valley almost to Haddon Hall; here tracks and woodland paths lead back over Lees Moor, first across Calton Pastures and then over Chatsworth Park and then back to house of Chatsworth.

I took these pics on 8 April 2013 during a free guided tour which Haddon Hall kindly arranged on that day for everyone.
David Hirschfelder (born 18 November 1960) is an Australian musician, film score composer and performer. Among other things, he wrote the music for the film Elizabeth and his Tudor-style dance music known as lavolta is featured here as La Volta.
The volta (plural: voltas) (Italian: the turn or turning) is an anglicised name for a Renaissance dance for couples from the later Renaissance. This dance was associated with the galliard and done to the same kind of music. Its main figure consisted of a turn and lift in a sort of closed position, which could be done either to the right or to the left. It is also called La volta, Volta, Volte. Spelling variants include la volta and levolto; its name is la volte in French and la volta in Italian. La volta became a respectable, but never completely dignified, dance after Queen Elizabeth I of England danced it with the Earl of Leicester (courtesy of Wikipedia).
