Hadrian's Wall Cycle Route - Solo Trip June 2016
Description
Hadrian's Cycle Way - Ravenglass to South Shields
In October 2018 I rode the 174 mile Hadrian's Cycle Way, Sustrans Route 72, from Ravenglass to South Shields. Coast to Coast the Roman way.
It was an easy ride apart from a few hills in the middle, and is the least hilly of the Coast to Coast routes.
I took 5 days, but on reflection it would have been better over just 4 days.

Hadrian's Wall Cycle Ride
Riding Hadrian's Cycleway, on arrow-straight, military roads, cycle tours paths and tranquil lanes, is a magical journey through Britain's past. Originally some 70 miles in length and six metres high, Hadrian's Wall is the most important monument the Romans left behind.
It stretches from the Solway Firth to the mouth of the River Tyne, across the wild and often eerily empty landscapes of the north. The fragmented remains of the Wall, as well as the medieval fortified churches, castles, Pele towers and reinforced farmhouses are all testament to the centuries when feuding and skirmishing were the norm in this border country.

Rusholme's new cycleways
Why is dedicated cycling infrastructure worth pushing for, especially when previous implementations haven't always been great? In response to criticism from people who are comfortable riding in heavy traffic, GMCC member Rob Raikes rides through Rusholme to highlight the benefits dedicated cycleways provide for people who don't want to cycle amongst motor traffic.

If all someone needed was information, wouldn't everyone be a wild success?
Why would we need doctors when we have WebMD?
Why use mechanics when we have YouTube?
Why go to university when you have a podcast?
You could read a book on gardening, but that doesn't mean you'd be a world-class gardener.
No, you need more than information. You need someone who can guide you, give advice, and speed up your success.
That's what you can do with my books and films. Use me as your mentor. Let me guide you through the vast amount of information out there, show you where to go, what to see, saving you time, helping you avoid making mistakes, and supercharge your journey to success.
Bike Trip, England 2011
May 2011 --After working up to 60-100 miles a week this past spring, I rode my bicycle across England. The trip started in Newcastle, my new hometown, and continued along the River Tyne, past medieval castles and abbeys, through the hills of Northumberland, along Emperor Hadrian's Wall and through the ancient Roman town Vindolanda (which is an active archeological site -- they published evidence of a 1800 year old murder the week after I visited). I stayed overnight in Haltwhistle, a small mountain town. On the second day, I stopped for lunch at a street party in Brampton celebrating the Royal Wedding, then biked to the Solway Coast on a sunny, windy afternoon, 100 miles from where I started near the North Sea. Andy met up with me and we spent the weekend in the Lake District, visiting a stone circle in Cumbria called Castlerigg.
