Explore Okinawa Ocean: Kayak interview
[Explore Okinawa Ocean]
Iriomote Island is covered by subtropical plants and mangrove, and the water which surrounds the Island is extremely clear.
We interviewed Satoru Yahata, a marine adventurer, about the allure of kayaking and Iriomote Island which has pristine wilderness.
[Location]
-Nakamagawa river
It is said that the mangrove forests in Japan amount to approximately 600 hectares. About 160 hectares or 25% of that grows in the Nakamagawa river basin.
The mangrove forest located by the river basin is the “Nakamagawa Nature Preservation Area” and is a precious spot that’s designated as a National Treasure. Nakamagawa offers popular eco-tours such as the “Nakamagawa Mangrove Cruise” where visitors can observe this precious mangrove forest up close on a cruise boat, “Jungle Trekking”, “Mudflat Observation”, and “Nakamagawa Canoe Tours.
-Haemida Beach
One of Iriomote Island’s longest beaches located about 3 kilometers from “Toyohara”, the final destination of Iriomote Island’s prefectural highway. It’s the perfect spot for combing the beach to collect uniquely shaped coral fragments or floating objects.
The beach sand is fine and the waters are shallow, making it suitable for swimming, but there are no restrooms and very few shaded areas, so it’s not a location to stay long hours. There are no shops and visitors are recommended to use rental cars.
-Barasu Island
Barasu Island is located off the coast of Uehara Port and is made of coral fragments. Colorful fish and coral reef can be observed from up close around the island. The location is recommended for snorkeling and swimming.

西表島でカヤック&キャンプ- ベースキャンプを探せ!Kayak&Camp in Iriomote island Day 1 Find my base camp!
【English follows】

I have a folding kayak, camping equipment, camping equipment ,Drone and Gopro and travel around the islands of Okinawa.
Until the last time the Kerama Islands continued, but this time I went to the camp with a sea kayak on Iriomote Island in Okinawa Prefecture.
It's first time to go Iriomote island.
It is the first day.
The weather was unfortunately rain, and although I checked a little in advance, I didn't gather much information about Iriomote, so I groped around the campsite and searched for a base camp while driving a rental car.
Initially, I thought that Haemida Camping Site would be nice, but to carry kayaks and luggage, there is a little distance to the beach. From the point that I have to walk quite a bit if I carry kayaks and luggage (if there is a bypass, there is no such thing, I would like to know). I gave up and headed for a campsite on the beach of Hoshizuna (in fact, there are separate campsites on the left and right(toward the sea) of the path, but the left side camp site is closed in winter ).
At first, nobody was there, so I wondered if I wasn't doing camp, but when I came back after watching the beach, the owner at the campsite was burning a fire, so I asked to use camp site and he said O.K.
The wind was strong and it was raining, so he(
Owner) saed, Would you like to camp in such condition? Is it OK?
As I have much experience about camp and kayak, so I said “It’O.K. no problem”.
I would be glad if it would be useful for those who are mainly interested in the outdoors, such as Okinawa, the sea, camping, kayaking, drone.
Since there are still few uploaded videos, I will post the past video links below.

A day in Okinawa, Japan | 24h in NAHA- travel Vlog
I recently flew over to Japan, Okinawa. I haven't had a lot of time there, but here's my 24h in Naha travel vlog.
Im sure you'll be able to enjoy the island more than me if you have a car and more time on hands.
Okinawa YIMBY Highlights
#YIMBY highlights from my trip to Okinawa this week.
This trip reminded me of the fact that Japan's zoning policies work great because zoning is controlled by federal, not local governments for the most part. The YIMBY Arts project has been begging for a specific policy idea to promote and I think that this will be it, going forward.
I expect to get a lot of pushback from selfish NIMBY groups on this so I will need the help I can get. But I'm hoping to get support from folks from the left who believe in strong, good government and the folks 9n the right who think that nosy neighbors should not have the right to tell them what to do on their own private property.
There is a bi-partisan coalition there worth exploring. Many candidates in the race right now, including Andrew Yang, have hinted at this but it'll be my job to push the needle on this one. If you'd like to help out with this new focus, let me know! #YangGang #legalizehousing #housingisahumanright
