☞ About 'Haemieupseong Fortress' (서산 해미읍성)
Haemieupseong Fortress or Haemi Castle is a representative fortress from the Joseon period. ‘Eupseong’ means a flat fortress surrounding the city area, such as Gochangeupseong Fortress, and Nakaneupseong Fortress. Haemieupseong Fortress was established in 1491 during the 22nd year of King Seongjong. Its circumference is approximately 1.9km, the height is 5m, and total area is 196,381m², making it a huge fortress. Through restoration and purification projects, its old image has been restored as a historic park and it is famous as a site of Catholic martyrs' in the late Joseon era.
Hoya Tree (locust tree) is 300 year-old tree located at the entrance of the prison. Catholics were hung from the tree branches by their hair for torturing. Traces of steel wires still remain.

Haemieup-seong is a fortress located in Haemi-eup near Seosan, South Chungcheong Province in South Korea. Haemi Castle was built between the 17th year of the reign of King Taejong (1417) and the 3rd year of Sejong the Great's reign in 1421 during the Joseon period. It was listed as South Korea's Historical Site No. 116 in January 1963 and renovated in 1973. The castle was the background of the Donghak Rebellion in 1864.

SIHEUNG EMMAUS BLACK SATURDAY PILGRIMAGE / Haemieupseong Fortress and Catholic Martyr’s Shrine
Haemieupseong Fortress (해미읍성), built during the Joseon period, has been preserved almost fully intact. It is one of Korea’s most renowned cultural heritages.
This fortress is a historic site in which a supreme commander of the army in Chungcheong-do stayed, and from which the great Admiral Yi Sun-shin worked. Furthermore, as Korea’s largest sacred ground, the site at which nearly 1,000 Roman Catholics were martyred, it was grounds for the Donghak Peasant Revolution and the Catholic Persecution during more modern times. However, a variety of fun and exciting events such as a Barracks Experience Festival and the National Ssireum
Championship are held here as well.
CATHOLIC MARTYR SHRINE March 1st Movement, also known as Sam-il (3-1) Movement (Hangul: 삼일 운동; Hanja: 三一 運動) was one of the earliest public displays of Korean resistance during the rule of Korea by Japan from 1910 to 1945. The name refers to an event that occurred on March 1, 1919, hence the movement's name, literally meaning Three-One Movement or March First Movement in Korean. It is also sometimes referred to as the Man-se Demonstrations (Hangul: 만세운동; Hanja: 萬歲運動; RR: Manse Undong).

해미읍성(사적 제116호)은 조선초기의 대표적인 석성으로 충청도 지역의 군사방어를 담당했던 병영성(兵營城)입니다.
조선 제3대 태종대왕이 1416년에 군사를 이끌고 도비산에 올라 서산태안지방의 지형을 보면서 덕산에 있던 병마절도사영을 해미로 옮기도록 결정합니다. 이로부터 태종 17년(1417년)부터 세종3년(1421년)사이에 축성되었으며, 효종3년(1652년) 청주로 옮겨가기 전까지 230여년간 종2품 병마절도사가 주둔하는 충청도의 군사중심지로써 국방은 물론 내란 방지 토포(討捕) 등의 임무를 맡기도 하였습니다. 해미읍성은 성곽둘레 1800m, 높이 5m, 면적은 약20만㎡의 규모로 조성되었으며, 충무공 이순신 장군이 선조12년(1579년)에 병사영의 군관으로 10개월간 근무하기도 하였습니다. 조선후기 천주교를 탄압하면서 1천여 명의 천주교 신자를 처형했던 역사적 사건이 일어난 순교성지이기도 합니다.

King Taejong, the third king of Joseon, led a soldier to Dobisan Mountain in 1416 and saw the geography of the Seosan Taean region and decided to move the Byeongmajeolsaeng from Deoksan to Haemi. It was built between 17th year of King Taejong's reign (1417) and 3rd year of King Sejong (1421), and the 2nd year of military service in Chungcheong Province was prevented by King Hyojong's relocation Haemieupseong Fortress is 1,800m tall, 5m high, and the area is about 200,000m2, and Admiral Yi Sun-shin served as a military officer for 10 months in the 12th year of King Seonjo's reign. It was also a martyr to the history of the execution of more than 1,000 Catholics during the late Joseon Dynasty.

☞ About 'Gaesimsa Temple' (개심사)
Situated in a dense forest in Sangwangsan Mountain (altitude: 307m) and located 6km away from Haemi-myeon, Gaesimsa Temple is one of four temples in the province of Chungcheongnam-do. Moments in Korea S1E10: Hidden Gems of Korea - Seosan Tower
Hey guys! So I decided to go on an adventure around Seosan and I ended up at Seosan Tower! This place is pretty awesome and I'm for sure going to be doing more videos on this mountain as it's rather large ad there are lots of stuff to do. That and I'd like to go at all times of the year, as well as when it's not as… well… polluted ahaaa.
Anyway, if you ever find yourself in Korea, do yourself a favour and travel to Seosan and check out it's wonderful scenery.

On October 12, Funday visited Seosan-si, Chungcheongnam Province with 120 expats in Korea to attend the 'Haemieupseong Festival'.
10월12일, 펀데이가 120명의 외국인 친구들과 충청남도 서산에 방문해서 '해미읍성축제'에 참가했어요.
This festival was designated as the 2019 promising festival of Korea, and has been held every year to promote the most well-preserved fortress of Korea 'Haemieupseong'.
해미읍성 축제는 2019년 대한민국 유망축제로 선정이 되고 매년 한국에서 가장 잘 보존된 성벽인 해미읍성을 널리 알리기 위해 개최되 오고 있답니다.
During the festival, we were given a chance to become either a Korean warrior or a Joseon Dynasty scholar.
축제에서 친구들은 한국의 무사 또는 조선시대 유생이 되어보는 체험을 했다고 하는데요!
