Hafod Eryri-Snowdon's New Summit Building
Short video of a trip I made on the opening weekend of Hafod Eryri the new summit building on Snowdon in Wales.
SNOWDON MOUNTAIN RAILWAY - STEAM TRAIN - Llanberis - Wales - United Kingdom
After our climb up Snowdon the day before we decided the next day to take the Steam Train up to the Summit.
Take the Journey with us to 1085m / 3,560ft. The weather wasn't fantastic for this majestic mountain top adventure but it gives you an insight. Since filming the video a new Station, Café and Tourist Centre has opened at the summit top.
Spanning three centuries the Railway is acutely aware of it's legacy. Recently new carriages have been built and commissioned to ensure that visitors to North Wales can continue to enjoy the unique Mountain Railway experience for many years to come.
Pushed by one of the Hunslet Engine Company diesel locomotives (1985) and the new carriages now seats 74 passengers, 10 per compartment. Departures leave Llanberis every day March to October on the hour and on the half hour. Journey time to the summit is one hour with a 30 minute stop over at the peak.
The Snowdon Lily is built on the original chassis and bogey from the original carriage of 1896. The unique original nature of the railway means that visitors will experience exactly what people did back in 1896 and see for themselves how beautiful the mountain is as they journey through the clouds to Yr Wyddfa, Snowdon.
Pushed by one of three working steam locomotives from 1896, the Snowdon Lily is an accurate re-construction of one of the original Snowdon Mountain Tramroad & Hotels Co Ltd 1896 observation carriages. Its a fantastic adventure and we hope this video gives you an idea of what to look forward to.
Journey on Snowdon 1,085m / 4:35H ( Luiz Razia )
Snowdon (Welsh: Yr Wyddfa, pronounced [əɾ ˈwɪðva]) is the highest mountain in Wales, at an altitude of 1,085 metres (3,560 ft) above sea level, and the highest point in the British Isles outside Scotland. It is located in Snowdonia National Park (Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri) in Gwynedd, and has been described as probably the busiest mountain in Britain.[3] It is designated as a national nature reserve for its rare flora and fauna.
The rocks that form Snowdon were produced by volcanoes in the Ordovician period, and the massif has been extensively sculpted by glaciation, forming the pyramidal peak of Snowdon and the arêtes of Crib Goch and Y Lliwedd. The cliff faces on Snowdon, including Clogwyn Du'r Arddu, are significant for rock climbing, and the mountain was used by Edmund Hillary in training for the 1953 ascent of Mount Everest.
Snowdon boasts some of the best views in Britain, and the summit can be reached by a number of well-known paths. The summit can also be reached on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, a rack and pinion railway opened in 1896 which carries passengers the 4.7 miles (7.6 km) from Llanberis to the summit station. The summit also houses a visitor centre called Hafod Eryri, built in 2006 to replace one built in the 1930s.
The name Snowdon is from the Old English for snow hill, while the Welsh name -- Yr Wyddfa -- means the tumulus, which may refer to the cairn thrown over the legendary giant Rhitta Gawr after his defeat by King Arthur. As well as other figures from Arthurian legend, the mountain is linked to a legendary afanc (water monster) and the Tylwyth Teg (fairies).
Snowdon Summit Cafe Hafod Eryri on first day of opening
12th June 2009: We took the Snowdon Mountain Railway to the summit, the first day of running to the summit for 3 years and the day the new Summit Cafe (Hafod Eryri) opened. This is just a clip, sorry about the panning being too fast as I now realise. First we show inside the cafe, then a quick shot of the train (ignore the converstion about dogs - they dont let them in!), then the view from the outside and a quick shot of some TV reporters. The slate/stone work on the outside of the building is very impressive.
Hafod-y Llan-Eryri
taking an early morning stroll up above Nant gwynant in Hafod y llan below Snowdon -Yr Wyddfa - you can see Llyn Gwynant below and the fabulous waterfalls and mountain stream- the sound of the hardy Welsh mountain sheep and the voices of walkers passing by to walk to the summit along the Watkin path-
MOUNT SNOWDON: Climbing up England & Wales' Highest Mountain.wmv
Filmed in May 2011 whilst climbing Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in England and Wales. The mountain lies within the Snowdonia National Park.

Mount Snowdon breaks a record
Hafod Eryri, the new visitor centre and café on the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) is opening this summer - costing £8.5 million . The new visitor centre is architecturally unique with lines of poetry from former national poet Gwyn Thomas built into the walls. Named a window to the world, a glass frontage provides panoramic views over the Snowdonia. The venue also acts as a terminal building for the Snowdon Mountain Railway, with a learning centre and refreshment café.
However, thats not all thats happening in Snowdonia. This summer the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways will be joined together, making it possible to travel 40 miles across the breadth of Snowdonia without a car for the first time. Built entirely by volunteers, the new railway will feature carriages for bicycles so that mountain bikers can explore the area with ease, and a new viewing carriage with panoramic windows to maximise the views for visitors. The whole length will be open to the public in July 2009.

Anglesey ... Druids Island
Hello :):):) .
Another visit to one of my favourite places in the UK -Anglesey off the west coast of Wales.
On a beautiful day I was able to capture many parts of this lovely Island Including some of its beautiful coastline and many of the prehistoric sites and monuments scattered which the Island is famous for.
Anglesey has a rich history going back thousands of years right up to recent times with its reputation for copper mining and the site of one of the country’s first nuclear power stations.
Weather permitting, Anglesey is a great place to visit with something new to see every time I go.
Hope you enjoy my pictures. Thank You x :) :) :)

Riverside Campsite Betws-Y-Coed
Riverside, Betws-y-Coed
Riverside Touring Park is an ideal base from which to explore the wonders of the Snowdonia National Park and North Wales, including Zip World and Hafod Eryri, the visitor centre at the summit of Mount Snowdon.
This five star, eight-acre park provides pitches for 60 touring caravans and motorhomes and a small number of backpacking tents (maximum 2m x 1.2m). As the name suggests, the park nestles alongside a river, close to shops, restaurants and pubs in Betws-y-Coed and there’s also a first class golf course nearby.
Whatever your reason for escaping to Snowdonia, you’ll find plenty to see and do when staying at Riverside Touring Park, where luxury facilities and a warm welcome from helpful staff are assured.
