Haga is the oldest neighborhood of Gothenburg and known for its well-preserved picturesque wooden houses.
In the initial period, it was the district of the workers, with craft shops and factories. In 1857, the Robert Dickson Foundation built a home for the working class in Neoclassical style.
In the 1920s, many of the businesses were closed and Haga turned into a residential neighborhood. Today Haga is popular neighborhood both with locals and tourists.
Along the cobbled streets, you find many pastel-colored wooden houses from the 19th century in the original architecture. The Haga district has been lovingly restored in the 1980s and is largely car-free.
The cozy neighborhood also attracts with small shops, antiques, boutiques and a variety of cafes.
The Café Husaren in Haga Nygata 28 is known about the limits of Gothenburg. The specialty of the student cafes are Hagabullen, Sweden's largest cinnamon buns. Unlike the normal cinnamon rolls (Kanelbullen) the Hagabullen have a diameter of about 20 cm and weigh approx half a pound. Enough to not stay hungry during the day, or to share them with your friends.
Coffee lovers like to meet in the cozy Café Kringlan, noted for its good coffee. As almost everywhere in Sweden, you can get a refill free of charge.
We stroll through the Haga Nygata and a spice shop particularly catches the eye, the Curry House. We ask the friendly owner if he allows us to take some video shots, which he does. It's amazing what a rich assortment fits in such a small space. And then there is the competence of the holder, of which we could convince ourselves personally.
We continue our walk and see the three-story Skräddare Peterssons Hus, designed by C G Dahmn in 1854.

In der Anfangszeit waren in Haga überwiegend Handwerksbetriebe und Fabriken ansässig. 1857 erbaute die Robert Dickson Stiftung hier ein Gebäude für die Arbeiterklasse im Neoklassischen Stil.
In den 1920er Jahren wurden viele der Betriebe geschlossen und Haga wandelte sich zu einem Wohnviertel. Heute ist Haga ein bei Einheimischen und Touristen gleichermaßen beliebtes Viertel.
Entlang der Kopfsteingepflasterten Straßen findet man hier noch viele pastellfarbene Holzhäuser aus dem 19. Jahrhundert in der ursprünglichen Architektur. Das Haga Viertel wurde in den 1980-er Jahren liebevoll renoviert und ist weitgehend autofrei.
In dem gemütlichen Viertel findet am neben kleinen Geschäften, Antiquitäten und Boutiquen auch eine Vielzahl an Cafés.
Das Café Husaren in der Haga Nygata 28 ist über die Grenzen Göteborgs bekannt. Spezialität des Studentencafés sind Hagabullen, Schwedens größte Zimtschnecken. Anders als die normalen Zimtschnecken (Kanelbullen) haben die Hagabullen einen Durchmesser ca 20 cm und wiegen ca ein halbes Pfund. Genug um den ganzen Tag satt zu bleiben, oder sie mit anderen zu Teilen.
Kaffeeliebhaber treffen sich gerne im gemütlichen Café Kringlan, bekannt für seinen guten Kaffee. Wie fast überall in Schweden, kann man sich hier gratis nachschenken lassen.
Wir schlendern durch die Haga Nygata bis uns ein Gewürzladen besonders ins Auge fällt, das Curry Haus. Wir fragen den freundlichen Besitzer, ob er uns einige Aufnahmen gestattet, was er auch tut. Es ist unglaublich, welch reichhaltiges Sortiment auf so kleinem Raum Platz hat. Dazu kommt die Kompetenz des Inhabers, von der wir uns persönlich überzeugen konnten.
Etwas später treffen wir auf das dreistöckige Skräddare Peterssons Hus, 1854 von C.G. Dahmn entworfen.

Originally a working class suburb of the city with a rather bad reputation, it was gradually transformed into a popular visiting place for tourists. A major renovation of the area was made in the 1980s, houses were either renovated or torn down and replaced by post-modernistic replicas.

Charming neighbourhood packed with cafés and shops.
Haga is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Gothenburg. The pedestrian street Haga Nygata is lined with well-preserved houses, many in the characteristic Gothenburg style called landshövdingehus with one floor in brick and the rest in wood. Today they house plenty of independent shops and cafés.
Haga is conveniently located within walking distance of the city centre, but if you arrive by tram you can get off at the stops Hagakyrkan or Järntorget. The area is found between Vasa and Linné and the main street Haga Nygata stretches from one end to the other.
Shopping + fika = match made in heaven.
A shopping spree is not complete without a proper coffee break, and in Sweden they call it fika. The Haga neighbourhood is perfect for the occasion. The selection of shops is varied, with everything from a soap shop to an independent toy store and a local marzipan and chocolate maker. You can also find interior decoration, fashion, antiques, tea, spices and olive oil. There truly is something for every taste and most shops are unique and can't be find elsewhere.
When you feel like a break, the nearest cup of coffee is literally a metre away. One of the most famous pastries in town – Hagabullen – a plate-sized cinnamon bun, is found at Café Husaren at Haga Nygata. But there are plenty of choices and pavement cafés and outdoor terraces line the street in summer. A farmer's market is found here in spring and autumn, and there is always a popular market in the run-up to Christmas.
Nowadays, Haga is located in the middle of the city. But this was not the case when Gothenburg's first suburb was planned in the middle of the 17th century, after orders from queen Kristina. The name Haga actually refers to the Swedish word hage, which means an enclosed field, giving a hint of the current nature and scenery at the time. If you climb the hill Skansberget, with the fortification Skansen Kronan on top, you get a nice view of the district and a large part of the city.
The neighbourhood has several well-preserved wooden houses built in the typical style called landshövdingehus (translated into county governor's house). The houses are characterised by having a ground floor in stone and two wooden floors on top. The typical wooden houses were built between 1870 and 1940, as housing for the working class in for example Haga, Majorna, Kungsladugård and Lindholmen. Fire regulations at at the time forbid houses higher than two storeys, but a ground-floor in stone made three-story houses possible despite this.
Haga is today a very popular residential area, but there are no hotels. That's no big deal, since the distances are really short anyway. Hotels located at Grönsakstorget, Esperantoplatsen and Vasastan are good options if you want to check in nearby.

Gothia Towers is located next to the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Center, this stylish hotel is opposite Liseberg Amusement Park and Universeum Science Museum.
Stunning panoramic views of Gothenburg can be enjoyed from the 23rd-floor sky bar called Heaven 23.
Local busses, trams and the airport bus stop right outside the hotel.
We had an electric car during our visit and it was free parking and charge the entire stay.

Gothenburg Swedish: Göteborgs the second-largest city in Sweden, fifth-largest in the Nordic countries, and capital of the Västra Götaland County. It is situated by Kattegat, on the west coast of Sweden, and has a population of approximately 570,000 in the city center and about 1 million inhabitants in the metropolitan area. The city council of 1641 consisted of four Swedish, three Dutch, three German, and two Scottish members. In Dutch, Scots, English, and German, all languages with a long history in this trade and maritime-oriented city, the name Gothenburg is or was (in the case of German) used for the city. Variations of the official German/English name Gothenburg in the city's 1621 charter existed or exist in many languages. The French form of the city name is Gothembourg, but in French texts, the Swedish name Göteborg is more frequent. Gothenburg can also be seen in some older English texts. In Spanish and Portuguese the city is called Gotemburgo. These traditional forms are sometimes replaced with the use of the Swedish Göteborg, for example by The Göteborg Opera and the Göteborg Ballet. However, Göteborgs universitet, previously designated as the Göteborg University in English, changed its name to the University of Gothenburg in 2008. With the High Speed Train from Gothenburg to Stockholm - Sweden 4K Travel Channel
A journey with the High-Speed Train from Gothenburg to Stockholm takes about 3 hours. Although with 200 km/hour, the train does not reach the top speed of trains in Germany, France, and Spain, however, the journey of approx 450 km passes like in the flight.
We opted for a ride on the MRT Express and booked the ticket in advance via the Internet. The doors are opened 10 minutes before departure. On board, you have free Internet.
The varied landscape with its numerous lakes, forests and meadows is repeatedly interrupted by smaller towns. The southern and central Swedish lakes landscape were dominated mainly by the glaciers of the last ice age. After defrosting of the glaciers, the landscape has lifted to 800m. Still today the rise of the land masses, once depressed by the huge weight of ice sheets, is up to 11 mm per year.

The closer we get to Stockholm, the denser the settlement. The train arrives at the central station, Stockholm Centralen on schedule. Stockholm Centralen is the largest railway station in Sweden and is used daily by more than 400,000 visitors. The many shops convey the impression you are in a mall.

Eine Fahrt im High Speed Train von Göteborg nach Stockholm dauert ca 3 Stunden. Die Züge erreichen zwar mit 200 km/Stunde nicht die Spitzengeschwindigkeit mancher Züge in Deutschland, Frankreich und Spanien, dennoch vergeht die Fahrt für die ca. 450 km wie im Flug.
Wir haben uns für eine Fahrt mit dem MRT Express entschieden und das Ticket bereits vorher im Internet gebucht. 10 Minuten vor Abfahrt werden die Türen geöffnet. An Board gibt es freies Internet
Die abwechslungsreiche Landschaft mit ihren zahlreichen Seen, Wäldern und Wiesen wird immer wieder durch kleinere Städte unterbrochen. Die Süd- und Mittelschwedische Seenlandschaft wurde hauptsächlich von den Gletschern der letzten Eiszeit geprägt. Nach dem Abtauen der Gletscher hat sich die Landschaft um 800m gehoben. Noch heute beträgt die Landhebung bis zu 11 mm pro Jahr.
Auch einen kleine Eindruck von Schwedens starker Industrie haben wir in Södertälje erhalten, wo sich ein Werk von AB SkandiaTransport befindet.
Je näher wir Stockholm kommen, desto dichter wird die Besiedlung. Pünktlich fährt der Zug im Hauptbahnhof, Stockholm Centralen ein. Es ist der größte Bahnhof in Schweden und wird täglich von mehr als 400.000 Besuchern genutzt. Die vielen Geschäfte vermitteln den Eindruck man sei in einem Einkaufszentrum.
