Haga Park is located only 3 km north of Stockholm. The park is the first National Urban Park and is a very popular excursion sight with many attractions. Some of them are shown in this video, namely Copper Tents (Koppartälten), Gustav III's Pavilion, Echo Temple (Ekotemplet), Haga Palace (Haga Slott), Chinese Pagoda (Kinesiska Pagoden), Turkish Pavilion (Turkiska Paviljonen) and meny more. This video is seasoned with three melancholic and beautiful Asian songs: Aoki Kouichi sings Kakinokizaka no ie (青木光一 - 柿の木坂の家), Seri Youko sings Shiki no uta (芹洋子 - 四季の歌), Teresa Teng sings Ei lai shiang (鄧麗君 テレサ テン - 夜來香).

Stockholm Walks: Hagaparken Castle Ruin
Hagaparken right outside the city center is a popular area for walks, runs, lunches and picnics. Here I´ve stepped off the popular paths and into the overgrown “ruin”, that is actually the remains off a castle that was never built since the king who ordered it (Gustav III) got shot and died in 1792. Now only the beginning of the cellars remains, but it can be a rather adventurous place for kids to explore.

Stockholm Sweden and the Drottningholm Palace
The name Drottningholm (literally meaning Queen's islet) came from the original renaissance building designed by Willem Boy, a stone palace built by John III of Sweden in 1580 for his queen, Catherine Jagellon. This palace was preceded by a royal mansion called Torvesund.
The Queen Dowager Regent Hedwig Eleonora bought the castle in 1661, a year after her role as Queen of Sweden ended, but it burnt to the ground on 30 December that same year. Hedwig hired the famous Swedish architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder to design and rebuild the castle. In 1662, work began on the reconstruction of the building. With the castle almost complete, Nicodemus died in 1681. His son Nicodemus Tessin the Younger continued his work and completed the elaborate interior designs.
During the period of the reconstruction, Hedwig was head of the protectorate for the still-underage King, Charles XI of Sweden, from 1660 to 1672. Sweden had grown to be a powerful country after the Peace of Westphalia. The position of the queen, essentially the ruler of Sweden, demanded an impressive residence located conveniently close to Stockholm.
During the reign of the kings Charles XI of Sweden and Charles XII of Sweden, the royal court was often present at the palace; Charles XI of Sweden went there to hunt, and after 1700, Hedwig Eleonora again hosted the royal court during the absence of Charles XII of Sweden under the Great Northern War (1700--1721).
Strömparterren City Park, Stockholm, Sweden
Strömparterren City Park, locally known simply as Strömparterren, is the first public city park and one of the oldest in Stockholm. It was opened to the general public in 1832. Unlike most city parks that are categorized as open spaces because of their mainly soft green space content, Strömparterren comprises both soft and hard spaces almost 50/50.
Strömparterren is defined Strömgatan towards the Royal Swedish Opera, Norrbro towards the Swedish House of Parliament alias Riksdag, Slottskajen towards the Royal Palace, and an Ocean stream called Norrström.
In terms of spatial organization and treatment/furnishing, Strömparterren consists of a wide main walkway smooth surface partly paved with smooth cement/sand slabs, and compacted earth and sand. The walkway links the park's two entrances namely the entrance from Norrbro opposite the Swedish House of Parliament and that also from Norrbro near Slottskajen and the Royal Palace.
Furthermore, the inner part of the main walkway is linked to a side walkway that runs along the edge of the city park adjacent to Norrström waterfront. The latter is well designed and developed, with metal railing providing physical separation between the walkway and the Norrström waters. The side walkway is paved with compacted earth and sand.
The main walkway and the side walkway are linked by a central square that consists of fountains and a landmark statue, as well as some minor walkways. Lamps on traditional lamp posts, decoratively pruned landscaping trees, rubbish bins, and large planting pots are provided along all the walkways, with ample seating places provided along the main walkway.
In between the system of walkways are soft spaces consisting of well tended grass lawns, some landscaping trees, shrubs, with some seating places provided around one big tree. Physical separation between walkways and soft spaces are provided by long horizontal metal plates as well as low lying metal railing.
Strömparterren provides a popular venue, particularly during daytime in summer time, for various activities including sitting, reading, lying down, children playing particularly by the fountains, eating, talking, passing through, photo taking, courting, relaxing, etc. The park also provides entrance to an underground museum called Museum of Medieval Stockholm.
This video provides a walking observer's visual experience of Strömparterren from Strömgatan to its junction with Norrbro, and then along the latter to park's main entrance opposite the Swedish House of Parliament. Inside the park, the walk continues along the wide main walkway towards Slottskajen and the Royal Palace before converging to the park's side walkway along Norrström waterfront, and proceeds in the direction overlooking the Royal Swedish Opera on Strömgatan and further to where the side walkway joins the wide main paved walkway near the first entrance. The final phase of the walk covers the wide main walkway again but on this occasion towards the park's second entrance near Slottskajen and the Royal Palace. The walk culminates with a view of the city park from Slottskajen.
