How KIC works; Amarillo library, Texas
How does this $20k monstrosity compete against the cell phone? I can take almost just as good of a picture on my Samsung S9 with the image stabilization and crop features (built-in). plus my S9 already has my email saved so I dont have to type it every time I want to save something. plus, I wont clutter up my email with these copies either.
I'm not confident that the leaders in Amarillo are very smart. They are willing to blow money very foolishly on very controversial ideas. 5 years ago they decided to start charging $1 per day for internet use. 2 years ago they buy this waste of money. Do these decisions sound like rational choices from a sane group of people?
This is as bad as the Walmart in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico that covered their entire parking lot lot in shade panels, but dont support a working wifi connection.
There are single leaders and even groups of groupthink leaders who make very bad choices.
Powered Libraries | University of Texas McDonald Observatory Library
Nestled high in the Davis Mountains, University of Texas' McDonald Observatory Library is a star attraction serving academic researchers who gather information from scientific articles and publications to better understand the night sky and universe. Under the direction of Superintendent Craig Nance, the collection contains priceless planetary volumes, charts, and relics that spark curiosity. Gems include a rare book printed to commemorate the dedication of the Observatory, containing the signatures of the who's who of astronomy during the early 20th century. Nance and his staff are dedicated to exploring the public-facing future of the library and sharing the mysteries of the observable 200 billion stars in the galaxy.
