This footage shows Slim Williams and John Logan on their trek to create awareness and promote construction of a highway connecting Alaska to the Lower 48 United States. In this scene, Slim and John arrive in Hazelton, B.C., greet some local residents, and pose for the camera (Color/Silent/16mm film).
This sequence is an excerpt of AAF-5216 from the Logan collection held by the Alaska Film Archives, a unit of the Alaska and Polar Regions Collections & Archives Department in the Elmer E. Rasmuson Library, University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Buckland & Taylor - Constuction Engineering - Hagwilget Bridge
Buckland & Taylor has been involved with the Hagwilget Bridge in New Hazelton, BC, for over 26 years.
In 2012 B&T was responsible for the design of repairs of the corroded needle beams, certain braces and gusset plates. The work also included inspection, live load analysis and condition survey of the bridge.
The unique features of this bridge and its remote location made for engineering problems that required specialized solutions and onsite supervision.
Home movie footage of Hazelton from Alaska Highway idea promoter Slim Williams in 1939
This is a short film of Hazelton from Slim Williams scouting of a route for the Alaska Highway in 1939. John Logan was the other man on the trip.
Slim Williams was a big promoter of the idea of a highway to Alaska. He made a trip in the early 1930s. This is the second expedition, this time on motorcycle and along what is now Highway #37. Yes, they managed to ride the motorcycles the whole way without any road.
The clip comes from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks archives. I have slowed down the speed of the clip, used Youtube tools to enhance the picture, and added music. The original speed of the film clip felt too fast, now it is a little bit slow.

Literacy and Community Development in Hazelton
This video highlights the work of Hazelton, B.C.'s Storytellers Foundation and their storefront 'Learning Shop' in recognizing the value of informal learning, like growing food, to connecting community members socially, culturally and economically. Supporting their efforts is Mayor Alice Maitland, who recognizes literacy as essential for building community members who do not rely on expertise from 'away' but are ready to be trained and to contribute to their community. 2010 Legacies Now, the first legacy organization to be in place years before the Olympic and Paralympic Games began to create tangible social legacies throughout British Columbia, created this video and is committed to literacy and lifelong learning.
