The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE with the purpose of protecting the emperor in his afterlife.
The figures, dating from approximately the late third century BCE,[1] were discovered in 1974 by local farmers in Lintong County, outside Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. The figures vary in height according to their roles, with the tallest being the generals. The figures include warriors, chariots and horses. Estimates from 2007 were that the three pits containing the Terracotta Army held more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which remained buried in the pits near Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum.[2] Other terracotta non-military figures were found in other pits, including officials, acrobats, strongmen, and musicians.

The world’s leading superpowers are locking horns. Over the past 16 months America and China have been trading blows through tariffs on goods. The impact is being felt on industries worldwide. But what is the story behind the America-China trade war?
So the trade war, what have you guys been looking at? The US doesn’t like that China is growing so fast and set to overtake America as the biggest economy in the world if it hasn’t already by certain measures. Basically China and the US are caught in this race of imposing tariffs on each other so the US slaps a high tariff on certain products then China retaliates.
It’s multiple industries across multiple markets, it’s huge. And I think right now would be a really good time to look at what’s happened how it could impact the world from now on.
At The Economist, we’ve been covering the trade war extensively Soumaya Keynes is our trade and globalisation editor based in Washington, DC.
How did this whole trade war kick off? How did this whole trade war start? For a long time there have been frustrations that past American administrations had with the Chinese. On the 2016 presidential campaign trail you started to see some really tough rhetoric.
China’s economic rise has been dramatic. In 1978 China’s GDP at market prices was just 6% of America’s. Last year it had grown to 66%. When considering local spending power China has already overtaken America. This unprecedented growth began with President Deng Xiaoping. He started opening up China’s economy to the world in 1978 and the country quickly became “the world’s factory”. Over the next decade, exports as a share of GDP tripled and by 1988 15% of China’s exports went to America. The World Trade Organisation opened its doors to China in 2001. And it was America that ushered it in.
After joining the WTO, China became an economic superpower. But people had expected the country to also become more like a Western capitalist economy. That didn’t happen. America now claims that China achieved its growth by not playing fair. Are those claims justified?
The Trump administration has been using tariffs or taxes on imported goods to try to force the Chinese to change their ways. In July 2018 America imposed tariffs of 25% on $34bn worth of Chinese products. That almost doubled the average tariff rate on Chinese imports from 3.8% to 6.7%. And it’s American firms that have to pay that tax. But with every increase from America, came an increase from China. Since the start of the trade war China has more than doubled its average tariff rate. America’s has tripled. The fight has become overtly political because China’s tariffs are hitting President Trump’s voter base. Many counties where Trump won in the 2016 election were here in the Great Plains and these are the counties most affected by China’s tariffs.
As things stand now, a ceasefire in the trade war could be drawing near. The two leaders are hoping to agree on a “phase one” deal soon which could mean some tariffs being lifted The Trump administration wants China to buy more American produce and tighten up their intellectual property rules. If that phase one deal is signed will it be the beginning of the end of the trade war?
Even if there is a phase one deal there will be a lot of issues still to be resolved. But there’s more to the trade war than just tariffs. America has also imposed restrictions on some Chinese firms especially ones in the tech industry.

Michael Jackson
Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter and dancer. Dubbed the King of Pop, he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century and one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Jackson was a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.
The eighth child of the Jackson family, Michael made his professional debut in 1964 with his elder brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon as a member of the Jackson 5. He began his solo career in 1971 while at Motown Records. In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. His music videos, including those for Beat It, Billie Jean, and Thriller from his 1982 album Thriller, are credited with breaking racial barriers and transforming the medium into an art form and promotional tool. Their popularity helped bring the television channel MTV to fame. Bad (1987) was the first album to produce five US Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, with I Just Can't Stop Loving You, Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Man in the Mirror, and Dirty Diana. He continued to innovate throughout the 1990s with videos such as Black or White and Scream, and forged a reputation as a touring artist. Through stage and video performances, Jackson popularized complicated dance techniques such as the robot and the moonwalk, to which he gave the name. His distinctive sound and style has influenced artists of various genres.
Jackson is the third-best-selling music artist of all time (behind the Beatles and Elvis Presley), with estimated sales of over 350 million records worldwide.[Note 1] Jackson won hundreds of awards, more than any other artist in the history of popular music. He is one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, and is the only dancer from pop and rock to have been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Dance Hall of Fame. His other achievements include Guinness world records (including the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time), 13 Grammy Awards, the Grammy Legend Award, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, 26 American Music Awards (more than any other artist), and 13 number-one US singles (more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era). Thriller is the best-selling album of all time, with estimated sales of 66 million copies worldwide. Jackson's other albums, including Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995), also rank among the world's best-selling albums. Jackson is also remembered for his philanthropy and charitable fundraising.
Jackson became a figure of controversy in the late 1980s due to his changing appearance, his relationships and behavior. In 1993, he was accused of sexually abusing the child of a family friend; the case led to an investigation and was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount in 1994. In 2005, he was tried and acquitted of further child sexual abuse allegations and several other charges. In 2009, while preparing for a series of comeback concerts, This Is It, Jackson died of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication. The Los Angeles County Coroner ruled his death a homicide, and his personal physician, Conrad Murray, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and incarcerated. Jackson's death triggered a global outpouring of grief, and a live broadcast of his public memorial service was viewed around the world. In 2014, Jackson became the first artist in history to have a top ten single in the Billboard Hot 100 in five different decades. In 2016, Jackson's estate earned $825 million, the highest yearly amount ever recorded by Forbes.

Highway through a Building Story ★ ONLY in JAPAN
Osaka's Gate Tower Building is an amazing sight to see because ... well, how should I put this? A highway goes through the building.
It literally does, and there is a story behind it.
In this episode, John not only goes inside to see where the elevator takes him, he also drives through it -- in a Lotus Seven. We'll also go up the Umeda Sky Building and catch some fantastic angles of the city, skyline and Gate Tower Building.
THE STORY:
Here it is from the building owner.
It’s basically a land rights dispute with a sort of happy ending.
The property was owned by a business (coal and wood company) since the early Meiji era but when business declined, so did the buildings in the 1970s. The area was approved to be redeveloped in 1983 but the property holder refused to give up the land, even though new building permits had been refused to him. The highway corporation and the property owner negotiated for 5 years and what you see today is their compromise. Highways usually buy the land they’re on but a new law in 1989 allowed the possibility of having two owners on the same spot, really meant for highways to go underground but hey – let’s get creative.
The highway is the legal tenant of floors 5 through 7.
The current building tenant on the other floors is TKP.

Today we are telling you about the world's finest, and amazing theme. Which floats inside the ocean. To make travel easier from city to city, Norway is going to make an extremely shocking experiment.
The roads built on this tunnel make up 1,330 km Traveling up to only a few hours will be complete. It takes longer than 21 hours to decide on this journey through the ship. Norway is building a floating tunnel to connect two cities.
This tunnel combines two villages named Opodic and Lavik. The first phase of the tunnel is completed in western Norway. This tunnel is a total of 205 km long. This tunnel is the world's second longest tunnel.
This tunnel is being prepared from about 4000 feet of long concrete. There will be two lanes in this tunnel. By which the vehicles will be easily accessible. To control the position of the tunnel, two pants will be prepared on the surface of the water, there will be enough distance between them, so that ships and cruises can easily pass.
These tunnels are expected to be completed by 2035. This tunnel will be so strong that there will be no impact of any weather on this. However, this tunnel will take longer than 19 years to build.
It is believed that around $ 23 billion will be spent in this entire project. People will be quite comfortable with the construction of this bridge. The journey that they used to meet in 21 hours, the journey can be completed in a few hours.

Population:
Fushun has 2.14 million inhabitants, including 1.34 million in the urban area. It is now part of the Shenyang-Fushun built-up area (comprising all the urban and suburban districts of Shenyang and Fushun) which was home to 6,756,379 inhabitants in 2010. This makes Shenyang-Fushun the 8th most populous built-up area in China
Economy:
Fushun is a highly industrialized area and originally called the City of Coal. It has developed as a thriving center for fuel, power and raw materials and is also offering more and more opportunities in textiles and electronics. The world's largest open-pit coal mine, the West Open Mine, is located south of the city. Exploited from the 12th century, it was operated as an open pit mine during the 20th and early 21st Century; however, as of 2015, the West Open pit, 1,000 feet deep, with an area of 4.2 square miles, was exhausted and unstable. Total coal production in Fushun as a whole had fallen below 3 million tons, down from 18.3 million tons in 1962. Fushun has a major aluminum-reduction plant and factories producing automobiles, machinery, chemicals, cement, and rubber. New direction economy of Fushun is focusing on a shift to national industrial development policy strategy and concept of revitalization, transformation, and green development. The coal mine, while still in use, is also undergoing Greening and transformation and re-development, in part by planting and re-foresting exhausted & un-used portions of the pit and pit walls.

Fushun is rich in wood, coal, oil shale, iron, copper, aluminum, magnesium, gold, marble, titanium, and marl resources.
Fushun is known as the capital of coal. The main coal and oil shale company is Fushun Mining Group, which produced about 6 million tons of coal in 2001, mainly blending coking coal and steam coal. The company also has coalbed methane resources of around 8.9 billion cubic meters. In addition, it owns geological reserves of high-grade oil shale, about 3.5 billion tons, of which the exploitable reserve is 920 million tons.
Industrial development:
Hydroelectric and thermal power are important locally available energy sources. Solar is beginning to make it's mark on the City as well.
Fushun has developed through the utilization of the abundant natural mineral deposits found in the area and is a nationally important heavy industrial base for petroleum, chemical, metallurgy machinery, and construction material industries. New sectors also becoming prominent are electronics, light industry, weaving, and spinning. New-Energy automotive manufacturing has also taken root and is quickly becoming a large portion of the manufacturing sector.
Transportation
Fushun is located 40 km (25 mi) from Shenyang Taoxian airport. Railways and highways connect the city to Shenyang and Jilin Province. The seaports of Dalian and Yingkou are also nearby, 400 and 200 km (250 and 120 mi) away respectively, with good highway connections.
Tourism
Fushun is a famous tourist center of northeast China. With high mountains and thick woods (40% forest coverage), the city has a developed a strong tourist industry. Houshi National Forest Park, about 55 km (34 mi) from Fushun city center, is rated by the central government as an AAAA tourist attraction. Saer Hu Scenic Area covers some 268 km2 (103 sq mi). It includes the 110 km2 (42 sq mi) Dahuofang Reservoir, the largest man-made lake in northeast China.
There are a number of historic and cultural sites within the area. Fushun's success in applying for two UNESCO World Heritage sites is expected to attract more tourists. They include a site known as Xingjing City, the origin of the Qing Dynasty, which is within today's Fushun. It was the first capital of the Late Jin dynasty, dating to 1616. The second site contains the Yongling tombs, where several members of the royal household are buried.
In more recent times, Fushun was where Lei Feng was stationed as a soldier and died, and a memorial museum telling his life story is a popular attraction. It is located at Wang Hua District in Fushun. It was also in Fushun that the last emperor, Puyi, was imprisoned after the end of World War II. The Fushun War Criminals Management Centre is converted into a museum in 1986. Another war memorial, the Pingdingshan Tragedy Memorial Hall Ruins, tells the story of a massacre of Chinese people by the Japanese in 1931. It was rebuilt and expanded in 2007. It includes a pit filled with about 800 bodies—largely infants, adults, and the elderly who were killed by the Japanese.
In addition, Red River Valley in Fushun has become an entertainment resort, especially in summer. Tourists can travel down the river on small rubber rafts through mountain scenery.

Moving relics of the Palace Museum during wartime
When the Japanese Kanto Army instigated the September 18 incident, both the ROC Government and the Palace Museum were concerned with the safety of museum relics, so they planned to move them to Southern China.In 1933, a total of 19,621 cases and 72 bags of ancient Chinese relics were loaded onto relic trains at the West Train Station in Beiping, and first transported along the Ping-Han, Lun-Hai and Jin-Pu railroads to Pukou, Nanjing, then they were shipped by boat to Shanghai International Settlement along the Yangtze River.In December 1936, the relics were moved to the warehouse of Nanjing Chaotian Temple. As the Japanese advanced from Beiping southwards, the relics were transported westward via three routes.The South Route was by truck to Anshun, Guizhou Province via Changsha and Guilin.The North Route was by railroad to Baoji, Shaanxi Province, and then by truck along the Sichuan-Shaanxi Highway to Emei, via Hanzhong and Chengdu.The Middle Route was by ship, upstream along the Yangtze River, to Leshan, Ba County, via Yichang, Chungking and Yibin.This process was full of difficulties and danger, and very bumpy all along the way.A few days after departure, the original place of storage was bombed by Japanese bombers.In 1944, the ROC Government was at risk of defeat along the South Western frontlines, so, after the Palace Museum held an emergency meeting, the relics stored in Anshun were moved to Sichuan Province.After victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the relics were first gathered together near Chungking, and then transported back to Nanjing Chaotian Temple, mainly by ship, but some by truck.Soon afterwards, the civil war broke out between the Nationalists and the Communists, and the relics were in jeopardy again.Members of the Executive Committee of the Museum, held an emergency meeting to discuss the evacuation of relics, and decided to move selected exquisite items to Taiwan.5,522 cases of ancient Chinese relics were shipped, in three batches, from Nanjing to Keelung, and stored in the warehouse of Taichung Sugar Factory.In 1950, the relics were moved to Beigou warehouse in Wufeng, where they were stored for more than ten years.During the 8- year War of Resistance Against Japan and the following Chinese Civil War, people from all fields of our country cooperated in moving our national treasure around, so that they were preserved, and now they continue to tell our country’s long history.

Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō) is Japan's capital and the world's most populous metropolis. It is also one of Japan's 47 prefectures, consisting of 23 central city wards and multiple cities, towns and villages west of the city center. The Izu and Ogasawara Islands are also part of Tokyo.
Prior to 1868, Tokyo was known as Edo. A small castle town in the 16th century, Edo became Japan's political center in 1603 when Tokugawa Ieyasu established his feudal government there. A few decades later, Edo had grown into one of the world's most populous cities. With the Meiji Restoration of 1868, the emperor and capital moved from Kyoto to Edo, which was renamed Tokyo (Eastern Capital). Large parts of Tokyo were destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and in the air raids of 1945.
