Motor Man 2019 had a 2-day and 1-night trip to visit Cat Ba Island, Cat Hai District, Hai Phong city in mid-July 2019. The group explored the Trung Trang Cave and Cat Ba National Park, swimming at Cat Co 3 beach, seeing the streets of Cat Ba by night, meeting and talking with friendly and helpful people here. On the second day, the group was not lucky enough that we could not take a tour on Lan Ha Bay because of raining and the Cannon Fort was not open to visitors. Although the trip to Cat Ba was short and a bit unfortunate, it was enough for the group to recharge energy for coming daily work. Thank you for reading and watching this video!

1966 Haiphong Harbor - Anti-Aircraft Equipment in North Vietnam
Hải Phòng, also Haiphong, is the third most populous city in Vietnam. The name means, coastal defence.
Hai Phong was originally founded by Lê Chân, the female general of a Vietnamese revolution against the Chinese led by the Trưng Sisters (Hai Bà Trưng) in the year 43 C.E. The area which is now known as Duong Kinh District was once known as Hai tan Phong thu (defensive coastal area), and served as the second capital of the Mac dynasty (1527--1592). At the end of Nguyen Emperor Tu Duc's reign, the headquarters of An Duong District was also moved to Hang Kenh Communal House, which now belongs to Le Chan district.
Haiphong was one of Vietnam's principal ports and trading centers. When the country was invaded by the French, the city became France's main naval base in Indochina. After World War II, when Vietnam attempted to regain its independence, Hai Phong was the site of the first military action undertaken by the French. While it was claimed that the French heavy cruiser Suffren bombarded the city, only 3 avisos participated in the operation that contributed to the start of the First Indochina War.
Later, in the Vietnam War, Hai Phong was subjected to heavy bombing by US Navy and Air Force strike aircraft because it was North Vietnam's only major port. After the war, the city recovered and became a significant industrial center. Today, its port serves the entire northern region of Vietnam, and has managed to attract large foreign direct investment that fueled economic rates of growth exceeding 10% per annum over the last decade.
Operation Rolling Thunder was the title of a gradual and sustained U.S. 2nd Air Division (later Seventh Air Force), U.S. Navy, and Republic of Vietnam Air Force (VNAF) aerial bombardment campaign conducted against the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) from March 2, 1965 until November 1, 1968, during the Vietnam War.
The four objectives of the operation (which evolved over time) were to boost the sagging morale of the Saigon regime in the Republic of Vietnam, to persuade North Vietnam to cease its support for the communist insurgency in South Vietnam without actually taking any ground forces into communist North Vietnam, to destroy North Vietnam's transportation system, industrial base, and air defenses, and to cease the flow of men and material into South Vietnam. Attainment of these objectives was made difficult by both the restraints imposed upon the U.S and its allies by Cold War exigencies and by the military aid and assistance received by North Vietnam from its communist allies, the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China (PRC).
The operation became the most intense air/ground battle waged during the Cold War period; indeed, it was the most difficult such campaign fought by the U.S. Air Force since the aerial bombardment of Germany during World War II. Supported by communist allies, North Vietnam fielded a potent mixture of sophisticated air-to-air and ground-to-air weapons that created one of the most effective air defenses ever faced by American military aviators. After one of the longest aerial campaigns ever conducted by any nation, Rolling Thunder was terminated as a strategic failure in late 1968 having achieved none of its objectives.
Operation Linebacker was the title of a U.S. Seventh Air Force and U.S. Navy Task Force 77 aerial interdiction campaign conducted against the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) from 9 May to 23 October 1972, during the Vietnam War.
Its purpose was to halt or slow the transportation of supplies and materials for the Nguyen Hue Offensive (known in the West as the Easter Offensive), an invasion of the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam), by forces of the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN), that had been launched on 30 March. Linebacker was the first continuous bombing effort conducted against North Vietnam since the bombing halt instituted by President Lyndon B. Johnson in November 1968.
Operation Linebacker II was a US Seventh Air Force and US Navy Task Force 77 aerial bombing campaign, conducted against targets in the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) during the final period of US involvement in the Vietnam War. The operation was conducted from 18--29 December 1972, leading to several of informal names such as The December Raids and The Christmas Bombings. It saw the largest heavy bomber strikes launched by the US Air Force since the end of World War II. Linebacker II was a resumption of the Operation Linebacker bombings conducted from May to October, with the emphasis of the new campaign shifted to attacks by B-52 Stratofortress bombers rather than tactical fighter aircraft. 1,600 civilians died in Hanoi and Haiphong in the raids.
Ho Chi Minh (House, Mausoleum, Museum), Hanoi - Vietnam 4K Travel Channel
Ho Chí Minh was born as son of a teacher in poor conditions on May 19, 1890. But already in his early youth, he developed an aversion to the French colonialists. A peasant demonstration in Hue, where he acted as interpreter, ended in the hail of bullets of French soldiers. As rebel he was expelled from school and went to Saigon, where he signed up on a ship to get to know France. During the next years he also went to New York, Boston and London, before he returned to France again. There he joined the Socialist Party of France. He and his comrades-in-arms published a petition in 1918 that demanded more rights for the colonies in Indochina. In 1920 Ho Chi Minh was among the founding members of the French Communist Party. After a stay in Moscow, where he studied at the Communist University, he went to China. At the Whampoa Military Academy in Guangzhou he gave lectures on politics. Later, he was a leading coauthor of a guide for communist insurgencies. Afterwards, he was sentenced to death in absentia by the French colonial authorities.
In 1941, he traveled back to Vietnam and founded the Viet Minh, the League for the Independence of Vietnam. They fought against the Japanese and French occupying powers. Supported by the national Chinese, Ho Chi Minh exclaimed the democratic republic of Vietnam in Hanoi on September 2nd, 1945 after the Viet Minh had taken the cities of Hanoi, Hue and Saigon.
With the bombardment of Haiphong by French troops where 6,000 civilians have become victims, the Indochina war began in 1954 and ended with the departure of the French. The Geneva Geneva Conference brought a cease-fire, which provided a division of Vietnam at the 17th parallel. After two years, a government for the entire Vietnam should be elected.
But the US never felt tied to the agreement and thwarted the election because they feared that whole Southeast Asia could become Communist. Ho Chi Minh was always the driving force for the unification of Vietnam. When the United States intervened actively in 1965 in the fighting, which led to the Vietnam War, Ho Chi Minh planned the Ho Chi Minh trail through Laos. This traffic system, also known as Truong Son road ensured the military supplies of the South to the North. Ho Chi Minh died in 1969 and has not experienced the independence of a united Vietnam.

Postcard from Hue Vietnam - in search of the 1968 Tet Offensive
We visit Hue Citadel in central Vietnam just before the fiftieth anniversary of the Tet Offensive and the Battle of Hue, looking for traces of the battle and the city's account of it. The Battle of Hue was one of the longest, bloodiest and most important of the Vietnam War. But a visitor to Hue could pass through the city and not even know it occurred.
How to pronounce Haiphong in Vietnamese
Hai Phong is a major port city in northeastern Vietnam, across from Cat Ba Island. Its leafy boulevards are lined with French colonial–era landmarks such as the neoclassical Opera House and Queen of the Rosary cathedral, dating to the 19th century. Hai Phong is also home to Du Hang Pagoda, an elaborate Buddhist temple, and Hai Phong Museum, which explores the city's long history.
