Not many people visit this awesome place because it's accessible only by 4x4. But I met some people who parked their small sedan a couple kilometers away from the parking lot and walked to the waterfall. With 4x4, it's only 5 minutes from the parking lot to the waterfall.

Iceland Driving: Háifoss to Gjáin
For people heading to Iceland from the world of paved streets, I wanted to provide a real example of road conditions between two of my favorite areas in Iceland... Haifoss and Gjain.
When I was researching my trip to Iceland, I read the road to Haifoss was rough and in bad shape.
I never knew exactly how to interpret that, so I wanted to provide an unedited drive from Haifoss to Gjain to help others assess the road conditions before attempting it with their own rental vehicle.
The video is long, so jump around at various points to get the general idea.
We were in a 2007 Hyundai Tucson during the first week of September 2016.

Háifoss - away from the busy waterfalls of Iceland
Háifoss is a secluded and absolutely scenic waterfall in South-West Iceland

Háifoss is Iceland's Second tallest Waterfall. (the tallest continuous one though)
It is 122 meters tall.

Háifoss and Grannisfoss
Háifoss is the 3rd tallest waterfall in Iceland with a single drop of 122 meters. This is not usually a stop on the tour but because there were so few of us on the tour and because we are waterfall fanatics, our tour guide decided to make a detour here.
Grannisfoss is right next to Háifoss and the name translates to the neighbor. It doesn't quite photograph as nicely as Háifoss because of the angle at which it falls into the gorge, but it's still an amazing sight to see these two side-by-side.

DISCLAIMER: I do not support driving on closed roads. I did it once to reach Haifoss because I saw no risk (I had a test car in front of me) and I had driven so far to reach that dreamy place. But it was really wrong of me to do it. So please don't make the same mistake I made.
