ISFAHAN - Iran Travel Guide | Around The World
Isfahan (or Es·fa·han (ĕs'fə-hän', Persian: اصفهان) is a city in central Iran, south of Tehran and is the capital of Esfahan Province. The Persians call it Nesf-e-Jahan, meaning Half The World. Due to its beautiful hand-painted tiling and magnificent public square, it is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. An ancient town and capital of Persia from 1598 to 1722, it was long noted for its fine carpets and silver filigree. Today, textile and steel mills take their place. Its architecture, tree-lined boulevards and relaxed pace make it one of the highlights of Iran.
The city is 430km south of Tehran at the foothills of the Zagros mountain range. The city enjoys a temperate climate and regular seasons. Isfahan is located on the main north-south and east-west routes crossing Iran. It is similar to Denver in the United States in terms of altitude and precipitation. It is the twin city of Freiburg and Freiburg street in Isfahan is famous.
Squares and streets :
Naqsh-e Jahan Square also known as shah square or imam square-1602. The square contains two mosques, a palace, and the bazaar. The square is the largest historical public square in the world after Tiananmen Square in Beijing and it is one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. The square is surrounded by buildings from the Safavid era. This a very popular place for locals to picnic on Friday and holiday evenings.
Meydan Kohne (Kohne Square)
Shahshahan Square
Chaharbagh Boulevard - 1596, dating from the Saffavid era, the avenue is the most historically famous in all of Persia.
Chaharbagh-e-khajou Boulevard
Mosques :
The stunning mosques of Isfahan are among the most beautiful and interesting in the world.
Imam Mosque (fka Shah Mosque before Iran's Revolution), In Naghsh-i Jahan Square. Built during the Safavid period, it is an excellent example of Islamic architecture of Iran, and regarded as one of the masterpieces of Persian Architecture. It is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its splendor is mainly due to the beauty of its seven-colour mosaic tiles and calligraphic inscriptions. edit
Sheikh Lotf Allah Mosque- one of the architectural masterpieces of Safavid Iranian architecture, this mosque is considered to be the most beautiful in Iran. Built in 1602 by Shah Abbas I.= and designed by his chief architect, Sheikh Bahai. The mosque was designed to be a private mosque for the royal family and therefore it does not have any minarets. There is a tunnel from the mosque to the Royal Palace, across the square.
Hakim Mosque - one of the oldest mosques in Isfahan. Built by Shah Abbas II between 1656 and 1662. Located on the site of a 10th century mosque. The portal was covered in mud until it was discovered in 1956.
Masjed-e Jāmé of Isfahan, Started in AD842, this is the first Islamic building to adapt the four-courtyard layout of Sassanid palaces
Pol-e Khaju (Khaju Bridge) - 1650. It is the finest bridge in the province of Esfahan. It was built by the Persian Safavid king, Shah Abbas II around 1650 C.E. This structure originally was ornated with artistic tile works and paintings serving as a teahouse
Atashgah - a Zoroastrian fire temple. This small reconstructed temple and ruins are dramatically set atop a rock on the outskirts of Isfahan and provide a commanding view of the smog-covered city. You can take one of the blue buses there (ask the drivers). Alternatively you can cycle the 15 km from the city along the river bank. Entry: IRR 150,000 for foreigners. Free for Iranians.
Average Salary in Isfahan is a bit lower than Tehran(Iran Capital) but the same is true for cost of living. Isfahan has a lot of steel and construction related industries as well as Power Generation plants. There are a lot of technology towns like Sheikh bahaee, Jay, Amir Kabir , Oshtorjaan and many others which all are active in the industry. Qualified people can work in these towns or directly in the industries.
Esfahan carpets are world-famous, being the very finest of the Persian carpets. They are also often extremely expensive. Carpets from the nearby town of Na'in are similar in style, also well-known, and are expensive too. For those who are interested, it is possible to buy the highly decorative and brightly coloured traditional dress of Esfahan, but such clothing can be expensive, so it's better to haggle for a reasonable price.

Iran President Hassan Rouhani to offer Friday prayers in Hyderabad Mecca Masjid | Gossip Mirchi
Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, who is visiting India this week, will offer Friday prayers at the historic Makkah Masjid in Hyderabad and is also expected to address the gathering, officials said.
Rouhani, who will be reaching Hyderabad directly from Iran on Thursday, will attend various programmes during his two-day stay before proceeding to New Delhi.
After his arrival on Thursday evening, the Iranian President will interact with selected 'ulema' or religious scholars of both Shia and Sunni sects, intellectuals, and academicians.
The next day, Rouhani will offer Friday prayers at Makkah Masjid, a 17th-century mosque, located near the historic Charminar in the Muslim-majority old city. After 'Namaz-e-Juma', the Iranian leader will address the gathering, said an official at the Iranian consulate in the city.
The Iranian President will also visit Qutub Shahi tombs, a historic monument near Golconda Fort. He will pay tributes to the mausoleums of rulers of the Qutub Shahi dynasty (1518-1687), who were Shias. The 16th-17th-century necropolis has many mausoleums built in Persian architectural style.
Hyderabad has historic cultural links with Iran. The city, founded by Quli Qutub Shah, was designed on the lines of Iranian city Isfahan. Mir Momin Astrabadi, who had migrated from Iran, had prepared the design of Charminar and Hyderabad.
Rouhani is also likely to address a meeting of Iranians settled in Hyderabad.
The city has more than 1,000 Iranians, whose forefathers had migrated from Iran. Hyderabad is also home to the second largest Shia population in India after Lucknow.
According to reports, the Iranian President was invited to the country by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year.
Modi and Rouhani are expected to discuss several regional developments around the globe.
While there was a strained relationship between the two countries last year, with India announcing that it was reducing its oil imports from Iran, the two countries have since signed a preliminary agreement for expansion of Iran's rail network.

Cairo- Rifaaee Mosque.
The Mosque of Al Refaie' is one of the most remarkable Islamic structures in Cairo. The mosque is located in Salahudin Square in front of the Saladin Citadel, just adjacent to the great Mosque of Sultan Hassan. The Refaie Mosque was constructed on the orders and under the supervision of Begum Khoshiar Khanam, the mother of Khedive Ismail Pasha, the renowned grandson of Mohammad Ali Pasha, founder of modern Egypt, to be the mausoleum of the royal family. It is a modern construction built in two phases over the period between 1869 and 1912.
It is said that the present site of the mosque contained a Zaweya (primary religious institution) before construction of mosque. Khoshiar Khanam chose the location as she wanted to renew the Zaweya of Al Refaie school of thought. So she bought all the surrounding areas around it and then she destroyed the Zaweya all in all and started to build a new huge mosque.
It is also a tradition that the mosque was built on the site of an older mosque called mosque of Al Zakhira which was built in the Ayubids era.
Although the mosque of Al Refaie is named after Sheikh Ahmed Al Refaie who was the Sufi leader of Al Refaieya method, he was never buried there. He was actually never buried in Egypt. However, the Zaweya continued having the name of Al Refaie and afterwards an ancestor of Al Refaie, Sheikh Ali Abu Shebak was buried there. Another Muslim saint, Yehia Al Ansary is also buried here.
The construction work of mosque stopped with the death of Khoshiar Khanam in 1885. She was buried in the mosque. Twenty five years later, when Abbas Helmy II became ruler of Egypt, he ordered to continue building the mosque. The mosque was opened for public in 1912.
The Mosque of Al Refaie was built to look like the great Mosque of Sultan Hassan in its size, height, and luxury. Most of the walls of the Mosque are decorated with colored marbles that were imported from seven countries from all around the world. The walls, doors, and windows of the mosque is highly decorated with Abanos wood and a lot of golden ornaments.
There are many burial rooms of the kings, queens, and royal family, the most notable among them: Khedive Ismail and his mother Khoshiar Khanem, his son Sultan Hussein Kamal, his another son King Farouk and King Fuad.
The Shah of Iran, Mohamed Reza Shah Pahlawy,(1919-1980) the former husband of queen Fawzeya is buried in the Mosque of Al Refaie. As a result of Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979 led by Imam Khomieny, King of Iran, Raza Shah Pehlavi went into exile to avoid a tragic end at the hands of Islamists. He couldn't find a place for refuge until the former Egyptian president Anwar El Sadat welcomed him in Egypt and when he died, Al Saddat ordered that he should be buried in the Mosque of Al Refaie. His burial room is one of the most amazing in the mosque as it is decorated with beautiful marble floor and walls and flower bouquets. Strangely enough, the father of the Shah was buried for some time in the same room.
Beside the burial room of the Iranian Shah, there is the burial room of King Fuad (1868- 1936). In the eastern wall of this room, there is a door that leads to the tomb of King Farouk who died in Rome in 1965.
King Farouk wanted to be buried in the Mosque of Al Refaie beside his family and relatives. However, the former Egyptian President at the time, Jamal Abdel Nasser, didn't allow. He agreed that King Farouk can be buried in Cairo but not in the Mosque of Al Refaie. However, when Nasser died in 1970, the body of King Farouk was transferred to the Mosque of Al Refei near the burial room of Shah of Iran, Reza Shah who was brother in law of King Farouk

Al-Aqmar Mosque - جامع الأقمر
Al-Jam`e Al-ِAqmar (Arabic: الجامع الأقمر, literally: Moonlit mosque) or Al-Aqmar Mosque also called Gray mosque, is a mosque in Cairo, Egypt dating from the Fatimid era.
It was built under vizier al-Ma'mun al-Bata'ihi during the caliphate of Imam Al-Amir bi-Ahkami l-Lah in 1125.
The mosque was named by this name due to its white stone color which resembles the color of the moon.
The mosque consists of a small square (yard) of about 10 square meters surrounded by a one-sided hallway and three corridors on the south-eastern side in front of Qibla and the hallways are decorated with decorated kufic inscriptions which is mounted on old marble columns with different cast bases and crowns with a wooden medallion. The most beautiful thing in this mosque is its facade which is not matched by its beautiful decorations with another facade in the mosques of Cairo.

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of thousands of mourners marched to the holy city of Najaf on Tuesday to pay their respects to a slain Shiite cleric.
Ayatollah Mohammad Baqir al-Hakim, and 124 other people were killed in an attack on the sacred Imam Ali shrine in Najaf, on Friday.
Hakim died, shortly after giving a speech calling for unity in Iraq.
The muslim cleric was a longtime opponent of Saddam who returned from exile after the US invasion.
Al-Hakim's remains are to be buried in Najaf on Tuesday when the funeral procession reaches the Ayatollah's hometown.
The march started in Baghdad on Sunday and wove its way through Hilla and the second holiest city of Karbala before nearing Najaf for the funeral ceremony.
Meanwhile the CIA said on Monday it was examining a recording in which a man claiming to be Saddam Hussein denied he was behind the bombing that killed the cleric.
The voice on the tape appeared to be that of Saddam and employed his well-known rhetorical flourishes in urging Iraqis not to believe those who blamed him and his followers for the death of Al-Hakim.
Some Iraqi police officials leading the investigation of the bombing have said they believe al-Qaida linked Islamic militants were behind the attack, not Saddam loyalists.
