雪国-Snow Country- Minamiuonuma, Niigata, Japan／ First time skiing and snowboarding
“Minamiuonuma” is one of the most famous winter resort areas in Japan with delicious foods and abundant Onsen (hot springs).
In this video, we feature students of the International University of Japan (IUJ) having their first skiing, snowboarding and hot spring experiences.
Minamiuonuma is about two hours from Tokyo by Shinkansen! So please come and enjoy this area when you visit Japan.

The history of fine linen Echigo Jofu is old. It is preserved in Nara Shoso-in, which indicates that the history of the textile industry in the Shiozawa district goes back at least 1200 years. The making of the fabric is discribed in the documents written by Bokushi Suzuki in the Hokuetsu Seppu. Currently the production of the raw material Choma is very low, and the lack of successors, the fabric may become extinct.

The International University of Japan (国際大学 Kokusai Daigaku or IUJ?) is a private university located in Minami-Uonuma city in Niigata Prefecture, Japan.
IUJ is the first graduate school in Japan, and one of the few Japanese universities which offers all courses in English. It was founded in 1982, primarily to train global leaders effective in the globalized world, be it in business, government, world organizations, or the non-profit sector. Tomioka White Art Gallery
The gallery holds permanent exhibition of over 500 masterpieces by a Niigata (Takada) born oil painter, Soichiro Tomioka (1922-94) from his White World series. He painted his works using the white oil paint he created Tomioka White, which does not discolour, crack or exfoliate, and an extra long painting knife which he had specially made by a swordsmith. Throughout his career his subject was landscape in snow. The unique black and white works attracted fans especially in the U.S., where the unlikely characteristics of oil painting - smoothness, clarity and brightness found in his works were considered Oriental White or Haiku in Painting and was collectively called Tomioka White. It was the artist's wish for the works created in the snow country to be returned, and so the gallery was opened in the early winter of 1990, at the foot of Hakkaisan (Mt. Hakkai).
