Hiroshima, Japan Memories
Going over the old video files I came across these clips. Not really knowing what to do with them, I decided to put them together and create a nostalgic movie.
So, with a late start from Okayama, we make our way to Hiroshima. It is just a short bullet train ride away, and in my opinion the place where the trip really starts.
This is what we did in Hiroshima:

History of Sapporo and Otaru [House of Friendship]
In an outing trip from Sapporo to Otaru, Fr. Manfred shared history of the birth of Sapporo as the capital city in Hokkaido. This storytelling has become his trademark in every bus-trip we had with the House of Friendship. Please enjoy and learn history in a fun way!

Visiting the Hokkaido region of Japan with Koël
See our choice of Japan deals in Sapporo Hokkaido:
The most remarkable thing about the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, and it's capital city Sapporo is the contrast in temperatures between winter and summer.
As a result of the thick snows that turns the city into a winter wonderland during the winter months, Sapporo is favoured more as a winter sports destination than a spring or summer resort. There are ski-slopes within the city limits and residents often enjoy a quick run after work. Sapporo is one of Japan's newest cities, having been constructed almost from scratch as the capital of Hokkaido in 1871.
Sapporo is a clean, well-organised and attractive city with plenty of parks and gardens, wide tree-lined streets, a number of good museums and galleries, and enough shops, restaurants and bars to keep everybody entertained. The main attraction of the city is Mount Moiwa and the mountain's ski slopes, which caters to all ski-enthusiasts with its 11 different courses right on the city's doorstep. Sapporo is a great holiday destination for families who are keen to enjoy a skiing holiday in Japan. For some insight into the fascinating Ainu culture and the region's history visit the outdoor museum in the Hokkaido Nopporo Forest Park, and the Hokkaido Ainu Centre a little way out of the city. For aprés ski relaxation and pampering take an excursion to the famous hot springs of Noboribetsu.

Japan Travel: Matsumae Castle Matsumaehan Yashiki History museum Hokkaido57
Matsumae (松前) is a former castle town just west of Cape Shirakami(白神岬),which is the southernmost point of Hokkaido. There is only 20 kilometers across the Tsugaru Strait from Aomori. Matsumae was the northern limit of Japan during the Edo Period and the sole feudal fief on the otherwise wild, untamed frontier of Hokkaido. The thriving, 30,000 person town attracted merchants engaged in the shipping trade, and was protected by a garrison at Matsumae Castle, which was the only Japanese style castle to have been built on Hokkaido.
Built on a hillside advantage point, Matsumae Castle cemented a foothold on Hokkaido from where to use the island's abundant natural resources. Toward the end of the Edo Period, the castle was equipped with cannon to counter the threat of foreign ships. As with many Japanese castles, Matsumae Castle's original keep was destroyed some times over the centuries. The current three story high structure is a modern concrete reconstruction from the early 1960s which houses a local history museum displaying a collection of artifacts of the local Matsumae clan, including some items related to the Ainu people.

Matsumaehan Yashiki
Matsumaehan Yashiki (松前藩屋敷) is a small historical theme park that recreates Matsumae Town like it used to be in the Edo Period. There are 14 buildings including merchant houses, a magistrates office, a guard station and a shipping agent. Some of the buildings can be entered and display life sized mannequins. Visitors can also rent period costume to wear(with a small cost) while exploring the town.

Subscribe to my channel here. Thank you so much for a thumb-up!
Japans’ northern island Hokkaido has a number of train stations that server just a few passengers a day. Kitahama station on the Senmo Main Line on the north eastern edge is one of them. It opened in 1924 and is called «The station that’s closest to the Okhotsk Sea». Just a few trains stop here everyday. Nevertheless, people cherish this place, that has been featured in several movies and series in Japan and even China. Visitors have left thousands of notes, tickets and business cards in the waiting room. There’s even a little restaurant that opened in 1986.

HELL VALLEY | Wastelands in Noboribetsu, Hokkaido
This is one of Japan's HELL VALLIES where everything is dead around the poisonous gas exhaust for the volcanic chemical spewing steam and water. The whole area reeks of sulphuric, rotten eggs. It's hotter here than other areas of the town. Yeah, it's HELL and this video is going to take you there -- and back!

Japan Trip 2019: Aomori (4K 60FPS)
Chapter 6: The Port Town of Aomori
Aomori is a small port town in the Tohoku region. It is close to the sea, so this makes it a very good place to go shop for fresh fish and other goodies! The city is also known for its big apples called fuji. They create all kinds of products and derivatives from it like ciders and more.
First thing we do in the morning is go eat some fish at Furakawa Fish Market! It contains lots of packed rows of vendors selling local seafood freshly brought in from Aomori Port. Buy tickets to create your own donburi bowl (bowl with rice) with fish of your choice picked freshly from the market! The Augashinsen Fish Market is also next to Furukawa's. I go buy and eat a nice rice cake filled with red bean paste, mmmm!
After that we go to the Hakkodamaru Memorial Ship. It was a ship that connected Aomori with Hakodate, and transported many things like the famous apples. It is now retired because of the new railway system that got introduced later in Japan. The museum inside explains the lives of the people at the time while inside and outside of the ship. We get a nice view of the city from the deck of the ship! There is also a vehicle deck which holds several historical trains of the time.
Nebutta Warasse is a museum about the Nebuta Matsuri, which is a festival held on summer around the beginning of August. Obviously, being in September I could not attend the actual festival, but visiting this museam gives us a good idea of what it is! The floats were amazing and I got to assist a little show while I was there! It recreated the atmosphere of the festival that's for sure!
Sannai Maruyama Archeological Site is the largest and one of the most complete and best preserved Jomon Period (13000-300 BC) villages in Japan. It was very interesting to see the old buildings and learn more about this time period of Japan.
Finally, to end the day we went to the Aomori Museum of Arts. Great art pieces of Chagall's Aleko were displayed in the Aleko Hall. No videos could be taken and photos are just for personal use. I could get shots of the Aomori-Ken statue though, which is a giant dog statue by artist Nara.
Overall, this was a nice city to visit! Next stop: Hakodate. We're entering Hokkaido for real now!

Best of Japan in 22 Days Tour
If you don't want to miss anything in Japan, then this is the tour for you. From Sapporo to Nagasaki, you will enjoy the best Japan has to offer including some of Japan's best onsens, gardens, castles, natural scenic areas, historical districts, temples and shrines, cultural activities and much, much more in a tour that will create travel memories to last a lifetime.
You'll stay overnight at a mountaintop Buddhist temple where Buddhist monks will serve you meals of shojin ryori (the traditional Buddhist vegetarian cuisine), receive meditation instruction from the monks and attend prayer services at the temple early the next morning, climb to the top of a samurai castle, participate in a tea ceremony, visit the world's largest fish market, stroll through farmer's markets, meet a maiko (geisha-in-training) face-to-face, see where the geisha live and work, stay overnight on beautiful and quiet Miyajima Island, soak in the thermally-heated mineral waters at some of Japan's best onsens and admire sacred Mt. Fuji (weather permitting), the icon of Japan.
You'll enjoy Tokyo where the sheer energy level will sweep you away, and Sapporo, host to the 1972 Winter Olympics with its many, fine restaurants, explore the morning market of Hakodate, where you can have the local specialties of crab, sea urchin or squid prepared for you for breakfast, and learn about Japan's original inhabitants, the Ainu, whose culture almost disappeared until recent efforts of restoration. You will walk around the rim of an active volcano, enjoy Matsushima, considered to be one of three most scenic places in Japan, visit the sobering testament to peace of Hiroshima and the ostentatious over-the-top shrines and temples of Nikko. The rural, mountainous island of Shikoku will charm you with its natural beauty, and the island of Kyushu with the history-filled city of Nagasaki will surprise you with its diversity.

Otaru Music Box Museum, Le TAO cafe, NARUTO Chicken and of course the infamous Canal. Some of the places to visit when in Otaru.
Tiny bit history of OTARU:
Otaru (小樽市 Otaru-shi) is a city and port in Shiribeshi Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan, northwest of Sapporo. The city faces the Ishikari Bay, and has long served as the main port of the bay. With its many historical buildings, Otaru is a popular tourist destination. Because it is a 25-minute drive from Sapporo, it has recently grown as a bedroom community.

World's Most Beautiful Starbucks ★ ONLY in JAPAN
Where is the world's most beautiful Starbucks? Japan, of course.
In Toyama city's Kansui Park is a shop that has won awards for it's design, but it's also the location that makes it beautiful. Those big windows overlook a lake in a park, the building resting upon grass, surrounded by sakura trees. The fresh air off the sea of Japan and the beautiful sunsets over the nearby Japanese Alps can't be forgotten. I could sip a hot cappuccino all day here.
But wait! Starbucks newest shop in Kyoto (Ninenzaka) is a traditional tea house that looks centuries old! It's hard to tell it's a Starbucks until you see the sign. Inside, it's like going back in time. You definitely feel Kyoto's historical vibe sitting on tatami sipping macha tea ... lattes. This may also be the world's most beautiful shop.
Hakodate in Hokkaido is home to what many consider to be the coziest Starbucks in the world. It's got a fireplace, wide open rooms and stairs, natural hard wood floors and a beautiful deck that overlooks Hakodate Bay. It's super cozy!
Yeah, visiting Starbucks is certainly one attraction for many visitors because it seems more than just a chain coffee shop. To me, it a reflection of the world around us -- and a really good cup of coffee.
THIS IS NOT A SPONSORED VIDEO.
I made this episode from a suggestion from a viewer in 2016 :) I also like Starbucks Japan because it's the only cafe chain that is non-smoking and has excellent coffee.
