New year's eve at Hakusan shrine! 2017

I went to a shrine called Hakusan Jinja near where I live in Niigata city to celebrate the beginning of new year in traditional Japanese style.

Hakusan Park Niigata City

Created in 1873, Hakusan Park boasts itself as one of the first public parks in Japan. This is an amazing shrine located right in the middle of Niigata City. The busy streets surrounding the park fade away as you enter the red arch and walk the path through the park. There are many quiet areas throughout the park, with koi ponds and small bridges. Although you are in the middle of a large city it feels peaceful and allows visitors to relax and connect with nature. I love coming here and you will too. 新潟市中央区古町、「ふるまちモール」を歩いて「白山神社」まで往復しました。初めて「ドカベン」の銅像を観て、白山神社では何年ぶりかの「ポッポ焼き」を食べ、帰り道には濃厚なチョコレートドリンクを飲みました。

The other day we visited the Hakusan shrine in Niigata, it was so serene and beautiful; I could have stayed there for years.

白山神社 [新潟市] Hakusan Jinja [Niigata-shi] （平成25年5月30日）

白山頂上に祀られている菊理媛大神(白山大神)を新潟の地に勧請して祀ったものです。旧記が火災で失われたため創建は不詳ですが延喜(901～)とも寛治(1087～)ともされ、古くは式内社に列せられ、延喜式神明帳には越後国沼垂郡船江神社と記されています。ご祭神の菊理媛大神は願うことを正しくよりよい方法でお導きくださり、乱れた糸をくくり整えるように融和され仲を取り持ち和す神様とされ、柳都新潟の守り神として、新潟総鎮守として新潟市民はもとより多くの方々に崇敬され現在に至っています。
