Hal Saflieni Hypogeum - UNESCO World Heritage Site
The UNESCO World Heritage site of Hal Saflieni Hypogeum is a large, underground burial chamber that dates from around 3300 BC. It was built in around three stages, and contained burials of many people, and may have also been used for other religious rituals. It's extremely well-preserved, as it was buried underneath the suburbs of Valletta until the early 20th century when it was discovered completely by chance!
Many thanks also to Heritage Malta for kindly providing footage of the Hypogeum interior!

The 6,000-Year-Old Underground Labyrinth: The Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum of Malta | Ancient Architects
Located in Paola in Malta, the Hypogeum of Hal Saflieni is considered the oldest prehistoric underground temple in the world. It is a truly ancient structure dating back to 4000 BC. The experts believe that what we are looking at is a sanctuary, a temple and necropolis, as the remains of more than 7,000 individuals have been recovered by archaeologists.
We know there was once a surface shrine that marked the entrance to the Hypogeum. This may have once started out as a natural cave, that was greatly expanded using antlers, flint, chert and obsidian tools to cut through the soft limestone bedrock. There was an upper level, which was the earliest, possibly from around 4000 BC, a middle level and a lower one, which came later, and finds suggest it was used up until around 2500 BC.
The cave system is highly skilled piece of work, an excellent example of ancient engineering, as they used a careful direction of light from the surface to penetrate down to the lowest levels. Intricate red ocre paintings covered the ceilings with motifs of spots, spirals and honeycombs.
Of the several thousands bodies found inside the Labyrinth, many were found to have elongated skulls, another mystery yet to be truly understood.

The Mystery of the Hypogeum Hal Saflieni
The mystery of the Hypogeum Hal Saflieni
The video is owned by Heritage Malta,
The story, however, goes much “deeper” than the National Geographic article indicates. Other sources say that about 30 children vanished in these catacombs on a study tour, and when the “Hypogeum” was first discovered nearly 30,000 human skeletons of men, women, and children (victims of ancient sacrifice to the “underworld gods”, performed by an old Neolithic race) were discovered as well.

Ancient High Tech | Hal Saflieni Hypogeum Used Super Acoustics To Alter Consciousness
Ancient high technology has been discovered that used Super acoustics to alter consciousness and affect both physiological and psychological changes on those subjected to it.
Recent studies have shown that the frequencies detected within the Oracle Chamber in the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum have a physical effect on human brain activity.
The Hal Saflieni Hypogeum is located in Malta. It is the oldest underground temple in the world and it's a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dating back to the neolithic period it is over five thousand years old, making it older than the Egyptian Pyramids and even Stonehenge.
This amazing subterranean complex is three levels deep, with each level superimposed over the other and it shows an incredible understanding of advanced engineering.
That this was all accomplished over five thousand years ago is beyond astounding.

Hypogeum & Valletta, Malta
Our first official day in Malta, we booked 9am tickets (booked way head of time) for a visit to the Hypogeum. It was not very difficult to find with our GPS and rental car, but if you take a bus I cannot say.
The tour lasted approximately 1 hour or so, and was worth it. Only 80 people allowed per day in groups of 10, per hour, so make sure to book appropriately.
From there we walk around the town square nearby but there wasn't much to see.
We then drove to Valletta, where we spent several hours walking around and even heading up to the Upper Barracca Gardens for the battery salute which happens at 12:00 and 4:00pm (16:00).
It's free but get there early enough to get a nice view, otherwise it's difficult to see through the people.

Hal Saflieni Hypogeum
The piece above I received from a friend who was staying in the Mediterranean region. He received the piece from a friend that is an archaeologist that was studying the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea. The hypogeum is a network of underground chambers, burial tombs and a temple complex. It is located in Paola, Malta and occupies an area, underground, consisting of 5380 square feet.
Probably the best known room in this structure is what is now known as the Main Chamber. In the main chamber is where priests would contact ancestors of the dead, before relinquishing them into the spirit world. It was in this room that the sleeping lady of the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum was found. The sleeping lady, naked from the waist up, in a fringed dress from the waist down, is in a deep sleep or perhaps a trance. The relic is said to be a representation and important part of dream interpretation and trance vision interpretation by ancient priests. The piece that I currently possess comes from this room, as well. After receiving the piece, I recruited my team members to help me run some tests on piece.
After running the tests we have determined that piece is a sacred addition to the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum and is indeed, at least one, of the many relics that were used in dream interpretation. When you possess this piece you will be give the power of dream interpretation. The power of telepathy will be passed on to you, and you will be able to communicate with people using your mind. You will be given the power of telekinesis, being able to move physical objects with your mind. You will inherit the ability to manipulate the thoughts and dreams of others, using the ancient wisdom that is beheld by the sacred relics of these ancient priests. You will gain spiritual healing and well being. Basically, this piece will heighten your astral perception and give you other astral abilities that will be helpful in your journeys throughout many realms.

Take time to visit The Hypogeum in Paola Malta - an Azure Malta recommendation
Henri, the Guest Relations Co-ordinator at Azure Malta's resort, the Radisson Resort & Spa, Malta Golden Sands recommends that you take the time to visit The Hypogeum, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Hypogeum of Paola, Malta, literally meaning underground in Greek, is a subterranean structure dating to the Saflieni phase in Maltese prehistory.
Reasons to Visit the Hypogeum:
1. Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum is a unique site inscribed on the World Heritage List as a site that bears a unique testimony to a cultural tradition which has disappeared.
2. The only prehistoric burial site which is accessible to the general public.
3. Paintings in red ochre, which decorate some of the walls within the site, are the oldest and only prehistoric paintings recorded on the Maltese Islands.
4. Beautifully carved features in imitation of architectural elements common in the above-ground temples, including an example of what a roof of these structures would have looked like.
This video clip is the first of a series of videos, promoting places of interest in Malta and Gozo, brought to you by Azure Malta, leaders in vacation ownership in Europe.

Missing Malta children, students & teachers Lost in Tunnels, victims of Giant Beings in the Hypogeum
In Malta a fourth grade class and its teachers walked into ancient underground tunnels, never to be seen again.
Malta is a chain of islands in the middle of the Meditterranean. Before gaining independence, in times of war, because of its strategic location it has changed hands from the Phoenicians, to the Romans, to the Normans, to the British. But before it was drawn into World War II it was the setting for a tragedy that drew world-wide attention.
The first people to disappear from Malta was neolithic man, who migrated from the island of Sicily five thousand years before Christ. After hunting the indigenous pigmy Hippos and pigmy Elephants to the point of exinction, they established a prehistoric dynasty lasting nearly three millenia, erecting temples made of blocks quarried from the local sandstone, many of which remain standing today. Then they vanished without a trace, as if victim of some invading army which had no intention of settling the land.
The sandstone substrate also made it easy for them to tunnel underground. The tiny islands cover only 122 square miles and the land is completely honeycombed with subterranean passages. In 1902 in the small Maltese town of Paola, two laborers were digging a well on Main Street. One of them fell into a cavern, resulting in the discovery of an underground complex of chambers and tunnels. This entrance was named after the Main Street and is called the Hypogeum of Hal Saflienti. Hypogeum is Latin for underground construction.
In 1937, when Adolf Hitler's greatest problem was how to pay for the Autobahn, a group of thirty Maltese schoolchildren along with two teachers and one tour guide, took a field trip to the Hypogeum. Part of their tour was a short descent by rope to the third sub-level. Beyond that chamber the passages branched out in the complexity of a maze. One wrong turn and the group had sealed its fate, unable to find its way back to the entrance.
Many of the older houses on the island had a door inside, opening directly into the catacombs. When grieving mothers gathered at the Hypogeum they claimed to hear the distant screams of the children. This was confirmed by those homeowners with private access to the tunnels, who also reported the echoes of the crying youngsters, which lasted for days. This ends the story, exactly as reported in the August 1940 issue of National Geographic magazine.
One year before this horrific incident, the same chamber from which the children were to disappear was explored by Lois Jessop, an Englishwoman who worked as a secretary at the British Embassy in the capitol. She also published an account of her tour in the Journal of Borderland Research. Lois also climbed down the rope, but her tour guide was not willing to follow. In those days the way was not lit by electric light, nor flashlights, nor torches. Each tourist was expected to carry their own candle.
With only half a candle left, Lois moved forward until she found herself on a ledge and could walk no further. The chasm between her and the sandstone wall opposite seemed bottomless, but she only had enough light to see fifty feet down. She was intrigued to see a similar ledge on the opposite wall, about thirty feet below the projection on which she stood. Then she was spellbound as she observed twenty persons emerge from the darkness, walking single-file on the narrow ledge below. She judged their height to be more than three times that of a full grown man. They were taking long strides and walking very slowly.
The giants began to notice her presence, and one by one they stopped and lifted their heads to stare at Ms. Jessop. Just then she felt hot wax searing her hand. She dropped her candle, and was immediately enveloped in total darkness. If she had not tied the rope around her waist, if she had not the presence of mind to call up to her guide Joseph, to pull her back, she may well have fallen into the cold air of the chasm.

#6 HIGH TECHNOLOGY in HAL SAFLIENI HYPOGEUM, 3300BC! | MEGALITHIC ancient Malta | [misterio]
The megalithic temple of Hal saflieni Hypogeum is nowadays a site kept practically anonymous, and that is not accidental. Due to some supposed moisture problems the place is limited to a total of 80 people a day. That is, 10 people an hour, which is actually about 40 minutes. Forty minutes dedicated to a small tourist guide. Everything is organised so that it is always the same route, plain and simple. The rules of protection of the place include the non-use of the photograph or video. Obviously it has nothing to do with protecting the place from the attack of the cameras. Because if the cameras were allowed, the internet would be filled with photos and videos about the place, and it would not remain practically anonymous as it is today.

ARCHAEOLOGY IN MALTA & GOZO
The sheer number of archaeological sites on the Maltese Islands sets their history apart from that of other Mediterranean destinations.
There are megalithic monuments, Bronze Age dolmens, Punic tombs, remains of Roman Villas and traces of prehistoric man, which defy explanation, such as the mysterious 'cart tracks'. For three millennia, from around 5200 B.C., the archipelago was home to a unique, temple-building civilisation. Malta and Gozo's temples are thought to be the oldest free-standing buildings known to man.
One site above all others is special to Malta - the Hypogeum, a labyrinth of underground chambers probably used as both a burial site and a temple. The Islands' temples qualify as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are open to the public.

8. MONTE D’ACCODDI
Sardinia is a large island in the Mediterranean famous for its beautiful beaches and pristine waters. Not many people know that it is also the home of a Neolithic site that poses more questions than answers. The ruins were discovered in 1954 on property owned by the politically prestigious Segni family and consist of a massive stone structure thought to have been used as an altar. It was built sometime between 4,000 and 3,650 BC by the Ozieri culture - or, perhaps, even an earlier civilization.
7. GOSECK CIRCLE
Located on farmland in Goseck, Germany, the Goseck Circle is an early Neolithic structure known as a ring ditch, and is believed to be the oldest of the Circular Enclosures of the Central European Neolithic age. Radiocarbon dating shows that it was built by Europe’s first civilization sometime during the 49th-century BC and was used until the 47th-century BC, long before the societies of ancient Egypt or Mesopotamia existed, earning it the modern-day nickname of “German Stonehenge.”
6. BIMINI ROAD
In the waters off the Bahamian island of North Bimini, there’s an underwater rock formation known as the Bimini Road, or the Bimini Wall. At first glance, the half-mile-long arrangement of rectangular and sub-rectangular limestone blocks appears to be man-made. There have been several theories about what the stretch of blocks actually is. Experts have speculated that it’s a road, a wall, a breakwater, or a pier from an ancient civilization. But if so, then which one??
5. THE STONES AT GALILEE
In the summer of 2003, an enormous structure was detected during a sonar survey of the southwestern portion of the Sea of Galilee, and divers were summoned to check it out. When they got a closer look, they observed a cone-shaped cairn, or a monument that was built by piling rocks on top of one another. The basalt structure measured about 32 feet high (10 m), with a diameter of 230 feet (70 m), making it taller than even the tallest stones at Stonehenge, and twice the diameter of the outer circle at the famous ruin site.
4. YONAGUNI MONUMENT
The Yonaguni monument is a mysterious sandstone rock formation located on the seabed of the waters off Yonaguni, Japan. Whether the monument is man-made or natural has been a source of debate ever since its discovery in 1986 by a director from the Yonaguni-Cho Tourism Association named Kihachiro Aratake.
3. THE KINGDOM OF GREAT ZIMBABWE
One of Africa’s oldest and most stunning archaeological sites, known as the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, was built 900 years ago and is home to a collection of massive stone complexes. The 1,800-acre site is located in southeastern Zimbabwe. Most of the buildings were made from granite using an advanced masonry technique called dry stonewalling.
2. HAL-SAFLIENI HYPOGEUM
The Hal-Saflieni Hypogeum, or the “Hypogeum” for short, can be found in the modern-day Maltese town of Paola. In Greek, “Hypogeum” means “underground,” which is an appropriate name for this Neolithic subterranean temple and necropolis. The Hypogeum was actively used from 4,000 BC to 2,500 BC, making it the world’s oldest-known prehistoric underground temple.
1. THE STRUCTURE AT MACDONALD LAKE
In 2005, divers working on a submarine project in Ontario’s Lake MacDonald discovered a bizarre assemblage of heavy stones that they initially assumed was a geological formation. At the bottom of the lake, an elongated rock weighing around 1,000 pounds (453 kg) sat on top of seven baseball-sized stones.
